The New Inn is set in the magnificent Yorkshire Dales National Park with its dramatic peaks, delightful dales, rivers, waterfalls and caves and situated in the centre of the charming village of Clapham. Over thousands of years water erosion through the limestone has formed many amazing sights, such as Ingleborough Cave (1 km/ 0.6 miles), which is festooned with stalactites and stalagmites and Gaping Gill (3 km/ 1.9 miles), the most dramatic of North Yorkshire's pot holes where water hurtles down in a single jet over 365 ft to the floor.
An exotic collection of trees, bushes and plants, many of them brought from the East by Reginald Farrer, the botanist, can be seen by the lake at the top of the village and along the nature trail.
On the doorstep are the most wonderful walks and you can explore the impressive countryside of the Yorkshire Dales or visit the Lake District (12 km/ 7.5 miles) with Bowness and the Windermere Steamers only a 40-minute drive.
