i generally prefer more chilled out places, but dampkring is the exception. whether alone or a friend i always had a good time here and the bud was exceptional. think i had the nyc diesel (hard to remember) and a friend might've had salad bowl (?)...at any rate, it was good good stuff. the staff is very friendly and the fresh squeezed oj was great. the only downside, and mind you this was out of several visits, was a too tightly rolled joint which was near impossible to smoke. the seller seemed to be worried that it might be and told me to come back if it's a problem and he'll swap it out. how cool! hang with the cat, an international crowd, and a have a beer if you are so inclined. this in my top 5 coffeeshops.

we recently returned from our first trip to amsterdam. we decided to walk from centraal station to leidseplein marriott, 20 min walk ok if you have little luggage. like most i had a coffeeshop map , but its not as easy as you might think, busy streets, long street names. we made a turn when i recognized damkring. very nice shop one of the best of the 7 or 8 we visited in our 2 days in a-dam. luckily found a table upfront, wife & i took a seat, i went to bar and ordered 2 diet cokes. then i made a b-line to the budtender,huge selection, good advice, did get hotel directions before getting zombified. bought some skunk to smoke (its been 3 years since i burned one) budtender described the difference between stoned and high, i opted for high as i didn't want to get lost going to hotel. not that crowded at first but almost all at once right before 11 a.m. about 40 people came in, a very lively bunch at that, seemed many knew each other, i now see this place gets crowded quickly @ times. i cant wait to give it another try, good bud, cute bar tender, good advice from the budtender and a cool coffeeshop except from the crowd (but its a well known popular shop) is a 5, maybe a little nore expensive, but you do pay for what you get here. tip as soon as you move out your seats are taken , they were 4 deep to the beer bar, find a cute girl and ask her if she wants your seats and if she wouldn't mind setting your empty cola bottles on the bar, she gets the seat, you dont trip iver the crowd & the bartender apprecaites you cleaning your table. highly recommended cant wait till round #2

we visited dampkring on a tuesday night about 6 weeks back. great vibe, good music, good gear, and we really liked the fact it had a proper bar. the guy selling the weed was a bit disinterested as the dutch can sometimes be but hey who cares. a real mix of locals and tourists including a couple of young american girls that looked like they weren't coping too well with the smoke. really liked the nyc diesel and the acapulco gold. the best place we visited and well worth the walk from centraal station.

on my 3 trips to amsterdam, i've visited over 100 coffeeshops. nothing compares to dampkring. it is paradise. anyone who says you can get better weed or hash in the city is too baked to know what they're talking about. the atmosphere ( and they told me dampkring is dutch for atmosphere ) is the friendliest and most welcoming i have ever experienced. all the positive reviews are right on the money. if you don't know the city, it can be hard to find but find it. after you have, the only reason to go to any other coffeeshop will be simply to confirm that dampkring is the best. my first tattoo, at 30 years old, is the dampkring logo in black, yellow and green on the back of my calf. if you really love weed and hash, this is your heaven. i envy anyone their first visit.

i had a chance to visit dampkring several times in the last 2 weeks. it was amazing. this was my first trip to amsterdam, so as a longtime smoker, i had huge expectations. dampkring not only met my daydream highmark, it far exceeded it. everything was perfect. decor, psychedelic yet not over-the-top. lighting, not too bright, not too dark, the kind of lighting that would make star jones look thin and hot. the staff, beautiful and friendly, angels that than crack open the blackest of hearts with a smile. i had a chance to talk to a bartender that beared an amazing resemblance to salma hayek. i'm not an ugly man, but this goddess was way out of my league. yet she was still friendly and engaging. the buds, out of this world. try mako haze or sage & sour, and hold on for the ride of your life. the menus even have friendly descriptors to help you decide on taste and highs. the bar serves an assortment of delicious stoner drinks, including strawberry, mango, freshly squeezed orange juice and alcohol (not all coffee shops serve alcohol). the people, a motley crew, made up of seasoned locals and wide-eyed tourists from around the world. the complete package, out of this world atmosphere and vibe. i highly recommend this mecca for smokers. in fact, if a semi-truck ran me over tomorrow and i ended up in dampkring, i would know for sure that god exists. and he forgave me for that incident in '97.

i got so blown out at dampkring all day for 3 days straight. i highly recommend the white widow and ocean's haze. the first time i went to dampkring i was so stoned i lit the whole joint on fire, tragic i know. a scene from ocean's 12 was filmed there which adds a bit of nostalgia.

this is a great coffeeshop for young party people, not necessarily for the best weed or hash. it is large for a coffeeshop, very dark and loud. i generally avoid it and look for places where the dutch go to get their puff.

was in amsterdam for 3 days, and kept coming back every single day. nice, friendly and very tolerant staff. smoked hemp with tobacco, and did it for me. the bartender even gave me free tea with the stuff i bought there. if you haven't been there, you haven't been to a good coffeeshop in amsterdam.

i love this place. it has trippy decor, serves beer, great music, and one of the best hasj/weed menus in all of amsterdam. it's also centrally located. the only downfall is it gets a bit too cramped, especially on weekends when all the brits fly in (but what place doesn't, right?). luckily i have found seats my last few times there. three types of moonshine hasj, need i say more?

i have just got back from amsterdam and had an amazing time. the dampkring is definately the best coffeshop i went to. the buds here are amazing, its a lil more expensive than other coffeeshops but worth every euro. the decor is amazing, its the perfect surroundings to enjoy some quality high grade weed. the staff are great too!! i will definately be coming back..the ak-47 is amazing try it!!!!!

i've just got back from dam n i loved every minute of it. we visited dampkrink a few times. i was too stoned to remember wot i bought but i have no complaints about the weed. the staff werent that friendly but who really cares? theres plenty too look at as the decorating is spot on, its a chilled atmosphere and brilliant lighting (not too dark but not very light)next time i visit dam this will be the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place i will visit. brilliant.

this was the first place we hit that was open. very freindly bartender, and i really liked the list that gives you an idea of what each type does, so you know what to expect. sadly we were only in dam for about 24 hours and it was only me and my hubby. we got 1 gm of warlock haze, and it lasted us the entire time. only bad parts were we didnt have enough time to try out different types and my tolerance was very low( hadn't smoked for a few months before we went) i was humbled..lol i sat in the hotel room that night n giggled n mumbled about ordering room service. my best tip to those who've never been: go with a group of people and at least a few days so you can sample different things, take it slow at first, and don't end up like me stoned of your ass to the point you don't want to leave your room..lol i have to go back!!!

'no probs' i pay and iam happy. my mate asks another guy, he goes 'sorry all outta sage!' so the guy lied to me! cos what he gave me there was loads left! and it tasted like soap again. they rip people off!

i went to de dampkring on my first night in amsterdam, the day before the queensday celebration. my main reason to go (beside the smoke) was to see the cat that lives there. as luck would have it, i got to sit next to his favorite place in the corner. very nice cat. as for the menu, it was quite nice with a good assortment of grass and hash. there are some places that have amazing weed, like the greenhouse, but i really liked the atmosphere here. as far as the weed goes, i recommend the nyc diesel. yum. the people who work there are nice, and the clientele was very friendly and chatty. a really colorful place, and probably the first place that i will go to when i return to amsterdam.

my brother and i went here one night. place is big compared to other shops about. they sell beer and they make the best strawberry shake. bought some big bud here, i went by the menu selection since the place was crowded with locals. (lots of bikes outside) the smoke was ok. we went and sat down in the corner along the bar near the window. there was a good 5 grams of smoke just sitting there asnd nobody claimed it. so we all had a couple of smokes. later my brother started seriously getting the giggles looking at the columns with the faces along the bar. we had to get out of there cause he was giggling for 15 minutes just looking at the decorations. great place to hang out.

i didn't actually get stoned at de dampkring, but i did have a cappuccino(delicious) one of the times i stopped in to purchase herb. when i first got into town i dropped my bags off(villa borgmann) and walked through vondelpark to get to leidseplein and eventually handboogstraat. that night i bought a haze joint, at the suggestion of a friendly weedtender, and smoked it as i walked back to my hotel through vpark. i wasn't disappointed. i recommend smoking some haze in the garden outside the rijksmuseum before you go in to be amazed by the dutch painting from 'the golden age'.

me and some buddies were here in '98. it was the first shop we hit when in town, and it was the best. they had some of the best buds we tasted on our trip and the staff was more than cool in helping some 'hungry' americans. i highly reccommend the dampkring to anyone visiting from out of country. hope to be back soon in the future.

i made a beeline for this place when we first got into town and ended up waiting 30 minutes outside the shop waiting for it to open.it was well worth the wait though as this was the first day they were releasing the nyc diesel they had been saving for the cup as well as their hash entries.they had a 2 gram per person limit on the diesel so i bought 2 grams and then sent up the wife to buy 2 more and although not overpowering this was the best tasting pot i have ever smoked,it keeps its very unique flavor all the way down to the roach.the kali-mist bubblehash was their hash entry so i picked up a gram of it even though it was a painful buy at 40 euro a gram,the hash was outstanding full melt bubble but still not quite worth that steep of a price.the bar staff were very friendly even though they were packed in tight for cup week,they walked around handing out candy and free drinks to everyone who wanted them(even us non judges) and the atmosphere was great.the only reason i give them a 4 instead of a 5 is the prices on their hash were outragous and not very buyer friendly.

stopped in on a return visit to the dam. really cool interior. stayed and rolled a kai myst or grey myst? joint with miritar? hash from india. friendly quiet place. great selection. i'll go back. great to hit on the way from west central station/dam square on the way to van gogh or anywhere down there to get properly lit up for your sightseeing adventures.

the hash here rules. it's the same as the tweede, but i guess ya'll know about that by now. anyways, they have 3 different kinds of bubble hash (formerly known as moonshine) that range from not cheap to expensive, but i wouldn't have it any other way. they have it numbered from bubble #1 - #3. the kali they have now is much better than what they had when i was there in january 2003. anyways, hit them up early or you won't get a seat. it is a great place to chill in the morning if you are looking for that hard hitting first high of the day. then again, i do that before i even hit the shower! friendly staff and loud music in the evenings. hope everyone that is about to go has a great time there! peace

this is definitely my fave c-shop in the dam. was our first stop last fri (10th oct), just before midday, and as we walked through the door fascination st by the cure came on. i knew i was gonna love it then, and i'd not gone anywhere near the dealer bar. but what a sight awaits. more weed and hash than is sensible, beckoning you from those jars like an rld whore. we went for the lemon citral and buddha's sister. both did exactly what they said on the tin, before long we were all (5 of us) as stoned as the ace cat. about 3 j's in, getting high by ian brown came on. how perfect is that - a brilliant song when you're totally sober, transformed a million times when you're chilling in a place like de dampkring. nice beer and stunning shakes; ace bar-bloke who remembered us later the same day as we returned; beautiful local girls in and out all day long, sound lad behind the dealers counter, and friendly customers. what a place. i want to go back now.

it was too..... got to schipol at 8.35 pm and was at the hotel for 9.30 needed to dump the bags and run to a good coffeeshop... dampkring did not disapoint... great atmosphere, the warlock haze was exactly what i was looking for ... an eyeopening high, giggly and chatty.... my mate went for the shiva, just the oposite, he loved it thoug... all washed down with a good few beers... top notch.

i stayed in amsterdam for 3 months, and in that time i found de dampkring & its sister shop, de tweede kamer to be without doubt the best in town. the quality of their products is second to none, with a massive selection of weed and hash. i must have tried nearly all their weed, and even their shake for €4 blew my head!!! my personal favourites were jack herer(€6), norhtern lights(€6), nyc diesel(€7), kali mist(€9), ak-47(€7.70) and the white russian(€7.50). be careful with the white russian, it's devastating! the diesel and kali mist smell amazing and give a wonderfully clear energetic high. one must buy a pre-rolled joint of pure ak-47(€4) for a major head expansion!

having gotten home 1 hour ago from amsterdam i felt compelled to give the the dampkring its just due.top quality weed & killer hashes i tried the 'sherazade' which gave you such a heavy stone that you felt like your tongue was resting in your lap.but the dutch moonshine #2 gave you a very psychedelic trippy high thats great for trekking through a-dam.all in all this coffeeshops,atmosphere, product & staff make it a must go.

i've never entered this woody looking, magical place before without it being heaving. all good things to those who wait though, because everyone in here is here for the same reason; top qualty marijuana. there's a nice looking menu at the dealer's desk, detailing all the grasses and hashes. all of them have a small description attached to them. most come with the assurance that they'll have you as stoned as a banana. well they're certainly not exagerating there, because every time i've left that place i've been heavily cooked.

this place had the largest menu of all and you could even purchase souvineer menus to take home and show your friends. cold beer and a true 'hashbar' atmosphere makes this place a must vist for any canabis tour. i.m.h.o. i do not think the water/ice hash is worth 25 euro a gram but alot of people do.

the fact that this place is so busy is for a very good reason. the grass and hash is top drawer, and the selection is pretty good too. you can really lose yourself in this den of iniquity. there's a couple of beer taps at the bar if you want to balance things up a bit too.

just returned from our second visit to a'dam. the dampkring is a 2-minute walk from our hotel. they have the best smoke, best price, best everything. it is crowded, but if you are lucky enough to get a table, you could sit there all day! and we have! last year on our first visit, our hotel recommended the dampkring while we waited for our room to get ready. best advice we were given! elaine is a very special bartender there. great girl! we will go there every time we're in a'dam.

the last thing you want during a too-short amsterdam trip is any kind of hassle. despite crowded conditions and a few out of control tourists, the dampkring staff offers first time visitors hospitality and courtesy. yes, they have good smoke, but that's a somewhat common commodity in this town for someone who knows what they're looking for. taking the time to answer questions, keeping an open mind and exhibiting great tolerance are the marks of any great hospitality provider - i count the dampkring in their number.

this was my second visit to amsterdam. this is a coffeeshop i returned to. we were fortunate to come at relatively quiet times early in the day. their service was competent. music was excellent and we were able to secure a table. kali mist is a super choice. though i am only an occasional smoker it did not blow me away but kept me high for 2-3 hours until the next coffeeshop experience.i truly enjoyed their fresh oj. my wife enjoyed the experience as much as i did. if only they had outdoor tables.

if you're just looking for a bag of weed, there's little reason to come here. however, if you have a sommelier-like knowledge of current strains and can honestly call yourself a 'professional' then this place is for you. extensive selection of greenery with usefull signs listing effect, seed origin, price etc... this is the first coffeeshop i have visited with a line of more than one or two people. i waited about ten minutes to get to the counter, but it was worth it.

love this place and its sister shop tweede kamer. tried the a moonshine joint after smoking the best amsterdam could throw us all weekend. had me and me mate (both smoked for around 17 years) coughing like it was our first jay. according to the menu the joint had 0.4g in it ,but this seemed to work out a lot cheaper than buying a a gram.

i live in a'dam for a few years and looked around at almost every shop. i still maintain that this is the best...if you get a seat. the place can get crowdd but if you have a table it is wonderful. you may borrow bongs and pipes of good quality. the weed is spectacular. white widow. the hash leave a bit to be desired. great decor. a very different world in which to get lost. good chance of meeting a nice person. plus, conan o'brien went there....it was on the show.

unremarkable (filthy)interior with great cannabis. i bypassed the crowds, bought a bag of ak-47 on a whim and headed for vondelpark. never have i been so stoned from grass. i just lay back on the sunny ground and watched the clouds fly by. ak-47 is the perfect name - i was levelled. had to smoke some haze just to wake myself up later. ah, the dam... i suggest opting for 'take-out' here. watch out: the ak will put you to sleep!

i stopped of here one day for a smoke & it's like stepping into a bad nightmare - too many crusties & students for my liking - & the decor is soooo stoner it's cliched. i had to queue for some buds which were not bad, but i couldn't stay to smoke them there - too many fuck-ups in a fucked-up shop to allow me to chill, so i went to kandinsky instead. if you only wash once a month, you'll probably love dampkring.

i went to amsterdam 2 months ago, and having done my research, i wanted to try a pure joint of the ak47. however when i looked at the menu, i noticed something called dutch moonshine which was one of the most expensive items on the menu. so i decided to buy a joint of that as well. (i bought a j of northern lights & white widow, and 2 grams of tabizla hash too!) we (a friend and i) smoked the ak47 and northern lights & white widow which was amazing. however, having breakfast the next morning in the garden of our hotel at about 11am on a beautiful summers morning, i pulled out the dutch moonshine joint and lit-up. man! that stuff hits you instantly, and knocks you out completely! after a couple of puffs, i handed it to my friend, who took one inhalation, said 'f*uck me! what the f*ck are we smoking?'. i said he knew he was stoned even before he exhaled! we just sat in the sun for the next two or three hours. my friend went to back to his room and slept. i went back to de dampkring and bought another dutch moonshine joint! i going back to amsterdam in four days time (eight of us this time) and we're going to race to see who can finish a dutch moonshine joint in the fastest time! can't wait! i highly recommend de dampkring! excellent cappuccino's, amazing atmosphere, cool music, sexy bartender, comprehensive menu, and the best hash in the world - what more can one want?!

my friend tom and i were looking for adaptors for our camera battery chargers. i was getting kind of cranky because i hadn't smoked weed since about 10 hours before back in chicago, before we got on the plane. we ran across the dampkring( damn, it took me days to remember the name, and now i'll never forget it). went in and found this cool middle-earth looking place. bought some of the weed, totally great.had a few beers, i even got a free one because the keg blew. (i don't think they give away drinks in a'dam like they do in chicago). we went back to the hotel (quentin) and asked the woman at the counter about the better coffeeshops, her first choice was the dampkring (followed by de rokerij), we even saw her in there later in the week. they seemed to play a lot of classic rock stuff( not my thing, but where can i find rockabilly and punk( i really like that manu chao esparanza record though) in amsterdam? please contact me if you know.)since then has ussually been my first stop when i arrive. they seem to open about the exact time i get there from chicago and take the train to cs and walk to de dampkring.

dampkring is real nice, an interior similar to barney's coffeeshop, with a solar system ceiling. good and wide selection of some awesome ghanja. i arrived at the dampkring and it wasn't crowded, so i had a wonderful time in one of the small corner booths. got a soda, roll a fat one, smoked it and loaded my carry around pipe and smoke it before i left. needless to say i leave every coffeeshop in a smoked up state of mind, that is so wonderful. dampkring is most definantly one of the top coffeeshops in amsterdam. it also sports several can. cups. display in a glass case on the wall.

hard to believe, but after 10 or 12 visits to amsterdam, i had never visited this place. but during this last trip, i stopped here several times and really like the place. the place seems popular with the locals, with a good number of tourists also. the coffee bar wait staff were not the friendliest, nor were they unfriendly.... just businesslike. there was almost a constant line of people at the weed counter.... that is usually a very good sign. very good selection, and high quality products like kali mist. for some reason, the place seemed popular with good looking women. why? who knows. but i spotted many a nordic goddess there.... those tall blonde gorgeous dutch gals. so an a+ for natural scenery. looking forward to visiting the shop again. :-)

umpteenth visit to the dam, introduced some mates (dam virgins) to the best coffee shops. this and the de kuil, aka the 4:20 are the cream of the bunch in centrum. if you want top quality, good choice, not bad prices and the deal weighed out in front of you, these are the 2 best coffee shops in the area. the staff know there stuff as well so if you aren't sure, ask. the damkring is not as easy to find as the de kuil, but if you are around the leidseplein area it is worth seeking out. definately not a black hole of calcutta type of coffee shop, plenty of seating and the music was good as well. it was a shame that my mates wanted to wander the red light area so much, so we only visited 3 times in 5 days.

upon my second visit to amsterdam i was with my girlfriend and a mutual friend who fancies herself a pot connisuier(sp? )anyways i had to find the best hash in town and i had ttried the skuff and ice at various other locations as well as some polm super polm sputnik some temple balls and a few others i have a hard time remembering, but i will never forget the blue moonshine hash at the dampkring when i looked at the menu and noticed 3 different prices i had to ask the guy behind the counter what the difference was, he said it was sublte and about 3 guilders(between the prices of the 3 varieties of moonshine) if i remember correctly the cheapestt one was about 35fl and the most expensive was 45fl. i bought as much of the 35 fl that they had which was 5.5 grams. sure it is a bit of money spent but one hit of this shit will blow your mind and knock you on your ass even if you have been smoking delectably dank buds all day long. i would put some of this in the hashpipe and get blown away!!!! if you visit this coffeeshop buy some moonshine, it truly lives up to it's name. i challenge any smoker to find a better hash......peace and pot people

we hit the dampkring twice during our trip to amsterdam. the first time we got some kali mist and some el nino as well as some of the moonshine hash. the guy behind the counter seemed almost disappointed when we didn't order the mexican haze. anyway all of the above were very good. really got off on the hash. the second time we got there we ordered a single joint of ak-47. the smoke was real rough, but it knock the four (4) of us down on our butts. the place serves alcohol as well as cannabis. we found the place to be very friendly. the guys behind the bars were open to answering questions and letting the customers see what they were getting. the people were friendly. while the place was crowded both times we were there, we had people sharing their chairs and letting us have a corner to roll in. they were amazed that we were using the rizzla and smoking pure. hey were americans. will go back there the next time.

Quite possibly the best gear you'll find in town. Their Kali Mist is the best example of the strain you'll find. Everything on the weed menu is top notch, fresh, and cured better than most shops - the AK-47 is particularly lethal. Their hash menu has all the highlights from their sister shop, Tweede Kamer, including the magnificent Dutch Moonshines. Fills up quickly in the evenings, so get there early in the day if you want a seat. The staff are friendly and very helpful, and try their best despite the fact the shop is perpetually busy. A must visit.

As American, you can get overwhelmed quite easily in A-dam. This is the place to start and probably finish. Example: I left my leather coat there. It was taken behind the bar and kept safe. When I went there the next day, they remembered me and returned it with my sunglasses still in the pocket. That won't happen any other place. Excellent service and selection. A small tip goes a long way. Will definitely return.

Expected an overcrowded, rude place; but found a busy, but very pleasant and helpful place. Excellent kali mist, and without a doubt the best hash. Nothing in Amsterdam compared with the moonshine 40. The bar was busy in the afternoon, but gave the place a nice feel - and encouraged conversation. Great - will definitely return here again.

the dampkring is heaven on earth. they have quite the impressive menu, but more importantly they have everything on the menu. the ak47 definitley blows the back of your head off, and the dutch moonshine made my brain into liquid. now the other truly nice thing is they have alchohol nothing like a nice tarwebok with your hash. i will be back again and again, this is a definite winner. though a bit crowded, the staff more than makes up for it with they friendly service. see you new years horace.

Just got back - Dampkring definately has the best selection I've seen. Great, helpful, friendly weed-tender (gave my brother a menu to take with him to show his friend back home), nice bar staff, interesting music, one of my favorite places. Winners for me included the Perfect Plant (verrrry nice), Citral (tastiest weed I smoked all week), Buddah's Sister and the Dutch Moonshine hash. Pretty funky hash, beware! But what a buzz... Enjoy!

One of the larger coffeeshops with a good mix of tourists and locals. The ladies behind the bar were the nicest in the city. They directed us to great food and entertainment. Although we toured more than 18 coffeeshops in five days, we ended up visiting the Dampkring at least once a day. The menu is as good as any other shop that we visited.

Dampkring was the first coffeeshop i visited on my first visit to Amsterdam. After travelling some 36 hours non-stop to get there, the Dampkring provided the perfect aptmosphere for relaxation. That night, i tried the kali myst and the bubble gum, both of which exceeded expectations. the house bong was lovely, the looza was cold, the music was fitting (given the decor), and i was able to just sit down and soak it all in. To sum up: aside from having the most eye-pleasing interior and being the perfect size, the bud was incredible and anyone making the pilgramage owes this place a visit.

After getting over what I suppose is the traditional dope-tourism frenzy. Running round various coffeshops excitedly going ... 'Oh my god, I haven't seen any of *this* kind of hash since 1981' We finally passed by the the Dampkring early enough in the day to get a table and relax. The dealer was extremely helpful and took the time to show me several varieties of Rocky and offer some advice about which weed would suit my purposes best. I settled on the King Hassan, which looked a bit like old style blonde Leb. I also got some Himalaya Gold as 'daytime' weed. Both were superb. The people there were grownups, mostly Dutch with a few non-embarassing tourists. I want to go back; tonight

This place is just enough off the tourist trac to be comfortable but still easy to find. A decent sized place with a psychedelic interior. A biker type crowd of mostly locals,very friendly,aimable type folks. Knowledgeable and helpful staff. The slant is on the hash, but, there is also an assortment of killer budz! Since the early 80's I have been personally biased on the Kalimist genetics but thier Peacemaker has got to be checked out also. In my opinion, there are only a handfull of really good coffee shops, this is right at the top. World class weed and hash and world class people!

Both the resin and weed are excellent, especially the Katma Gold. The staff are pretty condescending and patronising to the point of almost being rude. It's mostly Dutch people in there so that is good. Overall it's great for buying but I wouldn't bother to hang out there, I much preferred the Dutch Flower.

When I was there at New Years, I got some of my best weed at the Dampkring. One time though, I was looking towards the back at the dope counter and the dealers supplier saw me looking. Suddenly two goons from back at the counter rushed up to where I was sitting and sat down on either side of me. It was very tense and unpleasant. Nothing happened though, so they were probably just trying to make sure that I wasn't an over-zealous cop. They even had a sign on the door at the time which stated that if they were raided, to give the police your stash and the police would give it back. The bartender also didn't like me mixing my weed at the counter because it would have put more than 5 grams in a bag. Overall, it is a good place. But, just as in all coffeeshops, I would recommend bringing your scales just to make sure they aren't short changing you on your sack. But who really cares anyway. You can't buy 5 grams, or 4 grams in reality, of killer bud for $25 anywhere else and smoke it like it was a Marlboro.

Friendly staff. Our first stop. They were blown away that we found it first as some locals said it took them 4 years to find the place! Went back 3 times during the week.

The dampkring is known for it's large stock of goodies, and it's true. It's just that i personally do not like to stay there for long. In my opinion it's just not a place where you can chill and smoke. So i recommend: buy here, smoke elsewhere (Vondelpark, Rokerij II, or if you want something different but very very space, just smoke it outside or somewhere and afterwards go to Oibibio..)

I visited this place because of the review in High Times Magazine. I enjoyed the coffee, the grass and the pipe that was lended to me to use. I recommend you visit this Mid-Eastern coffeeshop.

When I arrived in Amsterdam I was wondering how the locals would welcome the Americans. Upon entering the Dampkring I found the most friendly people in all of the coffee shops I visited in Amsterdam.
