If you decide to take the train all you have to do after buying your ticket is to turn around and you'll see the stairs going down to the platforms. Every time I've taken it the train left from spoor 3, but ask when you buy your ticket. Be careful as trains to all over Europe stop at Schiphol and it's easy to get on the wrong train as the conductors don't check before the train gets rolling.
