Citadel Hotel

I will be staying at the Citadel Hotel in July....
Anyone stayed there before? Any tips or interesting things
I should be aware of? I've had a look at it on the map and seems
to be quite central and from the looks of things, possible quite
close to the Red Light District too but I'm not too sure. And
is it okay to smoke pot in the hotel rooms?
Actually, the package I got also includes a canal cruise,
a half day city sightseeing tour and another half day Volendam
and Marken tour. What is the 'Volendam and Marken'?
Thanks everyone!
Leila.

Those are two town to the north of Amsterdam. Marken especially is a trip back in time. Take a liik at the "Marken tour" on my webpage (just delete the "jack@" in my return address). As for the Citadel, I stayed there last spring, not particularly quaint or cozy but the room was fine, the breakfasts were the usual. I had a room facing Neuzide voorburgswal (sic, can't spell it or say it! lol) nice to watch the street below. There were no posted signs about smoking so I assumed the usual Dutch tolerance applied. I smoked discretely and had no problems. The location is great, especially if you stop the the Wildman for some Chimay (or another of the 200 or so brands they sell) on the way home from De Kuil! Wish I were there!
