RSand,
I travel to Amsterdam a lot on business, and it really isn't
as bad as you might think. Now I would recommend that you not
act like a tourist, but try to enjoy some of the culture. If
you like museums they have several very good ones. Also, it is
the diamond cutting center of the world, so if your husband feels
like spoiling you, you could get some good deals. You do need
to be aware of the darker (or more fun, depending on how you
look at it) side of Amsterdam. Yes, drugs are legal along with
certain occupations. Go into the city with an open mind, don't
stare or condem it, just accept it as a way of life for some
people and choose not to participate (or participate if you want).

Have fun and be sure to visit some of the fun squares while
you are there...
Kevin. There is very little hard crime in Amsterdam. Everyone is great for the most part. Just watch out for pick pockets, and don't leave youre luggage for a second, it WILL be taken. Visit a castle close to Amsterdam, you won't regret it. Have fun!!!
