Hi Stems,
Tweedy comes to mind and is right on the edge of Vpark across the street from the Vondel Church at Vondelstraat 104.
Kashmir lounge is out that way to on, Jan Pieter Heijestraat 85-87.
Greenhouse Tolstraat 91 and Katsu are kinda down in the south.
Have Fun

I was under the impression that Tweedy was closed. Any suggestions for coffeeshops out near Vondelpark? My coffeeshop.freeuk.com map doesn't go that far. Thanks. Hi Stems,

MaxF I was under the impression that Tweedy was closed.
Definitely the Wrong Impression.
Tweedy is most certainly still open.
I spoke to the man who runs the shop myself, this morning ( Thurs Mar 4 /2004 ) and they are open until 11 pm tonight.
MaxF Any of the shops near Leidseplein are close to the
entrance to Vondel.
Kashmir is a nice shop to hang out at before heading
to Vondel. Not too long a walk to the park, either.
Take tram 1 from Leidseplein down Overtoom.
Get off the tram at the J.P. Heijestraat stop which
is the 2nd(?) stop after leaving Leidseplein, I think.
Sit on the right hand side of the tram as it leaves
Lesidseplein (going away from Centraal Station,
of course) and you'll be able to read the name of
the J.P. Heijestraat stop when you get to it. Exit there
and walk away from Vondel down J.P. H. straat and
you'll come to Kashmir in a few blocks on your right.
Be prepared for darkness when you walk in!!!
Katsu and Greenhouse Tolstraat are in de Pijp, a bit
farther away, especially Greenhouse T.
Never been to Tweedy, guess I'll have to check it out! You can get off at Overtoom stop, continue up the street and take a right on J.P.H.Straat. The two block walk from there crosses over one canal bridge, then you see it on the right.
BUT, Like Viking said, be careful, it is really dark in there. I have only been one time, and could not see a single thing inside, so I pretended that I lost my wallet or something (Patting my pockets), and headed back out. I have heard it is a wonderful coffeeshop, but my vision is a bit on the old side, so to speak...
I have yet to go to Tweedy either... Way to go Max, you are there now heh?
Will you still be there in June, Max??? Hi LH,
My apologies for conveying that impression, while my mind has never left, sadly my body is not currently in the Netherlands.
I have this an old phone card I picked up for $5 Cnd. it gives you 500 mins. talk time from Canada to Amsterdam. a handy thing it is indeed.
I hope the "way to go" still applies .
Yes, I will be there In June, on 25th at the Grey Area, around 4:20, If I remember correctly.
All the Best
MaxF Thanks for all the suggestions, folks. I'll be staying on the Overtoom side of the park near an area labelled "Rijtuigenhof" on my map, tram 1 will definately be my friend.
Can someone fill me in on what "Rijtuigenhof" is or means? Just curious...
Thanks again. Thanks for all the suggestions, folks. I'll be staying on the Overtoom side of the park near an area labelled "Rijtuigenhof" on my map, tram 1 will definately be my friend.

Rijtuigenhof means carriages court , tnx to www .freetranslation.com :-) Thanks for all the suggestions, folks. I'll be staying on the Overtoom side of the park near an area labelled "Rijtuigenhof" on my map, tram 1 will definately be my friend.

There is a little local shop with great wares on Amstelveenseweg, right off of the Overtoom, heading south. Sorry, I didn't catch the name but their hash called 'White Dyna' was definitely a highlight of the trip. It sounds like Kashmir is definitely in your vicinty. I'd love to hear a review of the other two shops right near it...
Glad to hear Tweedy is re-opened (just did a search of the knowledge base where someone said it was closed due to the building being damaged big time and too expensive to repair.) Perhaps the poster was completely wrong and it never was closed, but hey. I get so much good info from this site I'm willing to deal with the occasional piece of bum info. My shout goes out to Dolphins which is just north of Vondelpark and by the looks of where you are staying Kashmir lounge's probaly the closest...Boner... Thanks again, all. Kashmir and Tweedy are both about the same distance away from the flat, a mere tram stop or two. It will be very nice to be able to pop off tram 1 at Tweedy, do some sampling then walk home through the park.
"The park, Bitterman, you know how I love the park". Yes, I will be there In June, on 25th at the Grey Area, around 4:20, If I remember correctly.

Yep, that is the date and time, place and all, indeed. I will be there with Kief in hand, or in a joint, which ever comes last... LOL...
Now, got to plan a crawl time and day, Hummm.... Yes, I will be there In June, on 25th at the Grey Area, around 4:20, If I remember correctly.

Hey Last Ham-
About the crawl, I would be much more likely to give it a try if we scheduled a 1 hour break, right in the middle of the crawl. I would sleep deeply for 45 minutes, wake up dazed, but refreshed, have an espresso, ready for the next 10 coffeeshops. Of course, there are logistics, such as where is everyone's hotel, but they could probably be overcome. I just think it would be so much more fun with a siesta thrown in.
It's almost at the summer solstice, so we have many hours of daylight in which to complete the task. If I could get my nap, I'm in.
Best, nogbin It seems no visit of mine is ever complete without a meeting with Nogbin. Hey, you know that would be a great idea, a mid-crawl break. I am sure that can be worked out., may be the very thing to balance out the drag, so to speak... Great Idea...
The crawl will, as usual begin at the infamous Barney's Coffeeshop, opening time is the 7:00 am, and makes for the best first hit. So, all must gather at the inital meeting point. For instance, I stay a good bit back from the Central Station/Barney's Area, yet I will tram, walk, take a cab, whatever I have to do to be at Barney's at 7:00am. It all works out if we all just meet at the first shop, (IMHO). I have the route just about planned, being a slight modification of last years attempt. Especially seeing how Old Style may not be in the mix,,, Darnit.. However, they may still be considered a coffeeshop,, hummm.
Now, with over a hundred days left, much time remains to iron out the final details and day of the event. Ahhh, the long wait...
Counting the days,
LH and falling in asian trading early thursday morning. go greenback go! No shit! At this rate, I will be getting an extra 70 euros! Jelly hash, here I come!
Think I'm gonna spend it at the Pollinator, though. Mila's ice-o-later hash sounds too good to pass up at her prices!
Peace-
seouleast drop! drop! drop! I noticed it start to turn about a week and a half ago. Think I'm gonna spend it at the Pollinator, though. Mila's ice-o-later hash sounds too good to pass up at her prices!

And what a lovely lady Mila is too as well as her daughter Lali. I have stayed at thier hotel a few times and had some good conversations with them both. Very nice and friendly indeed. Go Go Go.....This is fantastic I will be able to have a grand time in two weeks when I get to meet so many of you at the smokeout at De Kuil if things keep up this way. The European corporations hate the weak dollar because it produces the opposite desired effect, ie: "importing more shitty American goods".
www.xe.com reports that the euro=1.22 $ Dive and hold baby ! dive and hold !
Our prayers to the currency exchange Gods seem to be working, my June trip is looking sweeter and sweeter by the day.
And In the spirit of new beginnings,
Welcome to the board Spliffster, I'm sure you'll find this place as enjoyable and informative as we all have.
MaxF Yes yes yes
I can see my hotel demanding more money upon arrival. I got a good deal and looks like it might be even better. Suckers!
Seriously, I know I posted on here somewhere that my friend who follows the market super closely predicted a sharp decline in the value of the Euro by mid march. I hope so!!!! Keep your fingers crossed people (E.U. citezens this does not apply to you). It has gone down some 8 cents in the last 24 hours......go go go go go........ My tuition is due for the hague university. I owe them around 3800 euros...
Dont let me down dolla! please!! Is there a way of monitoring the direction of the dollar's value? Aside from checking it's worth everyday? Damn the dollar has been getting drilled lately.
What ever happened to the good old days when I got 2.5 gilders for a buck? I remember getting laid in the rld for 50 guilders.
I guess those days are gone forever! lol Ah, yes Fable there is... www.exchangerate.com and you can get graphs, charts, track progress for a year, any year for that matter. They have photos of the currency, and lots more.
Now, here is a word to the wise on the Euro, as I track it a lot. It goes up every March and April, so a trip then is good. (Although, the Euro has steadily gained on the Dollar from the start. Check the one year graph Fable.
However, for people like Max and myself, a good tip would be to buy you currency during these spikes, so to speak. April will most likely have a better spike than now, but these two months seem to be the best.
June and July are some of the worst months for exchange. I bought mine a little early this year, and it will cost me a few pennies on the Euro. (I had gotten a tip that the Euro would be gaining the whole year, so I made the buy at 121.675) BTW, even though the spike came again this year, the Euro is still on a gain pattern overall. (Again check the one year graph at that site.) So, it is rumored that the rate will be 150. or so by mid or late summer, so if you see it start to plundge, make the buy or it will be a bad move, and way late for your ATM's to beat the rate you can get during these spikes...
Hope this helped, I have watched the Euro and Guilder for many years. Of course, watching the Guilder is pointless now... (Goodness, I miss the Guilder)
Watch the chart, this could be the worst year for the Dollar to the Euro...
If your trip is later this year, keep an eye on it... But, I am telling you now, if it is later this year, BUY NOW..... Damn the dollar has been getting drilled lately.

I guess those days are gone forever! lol
I was typing my post at the same time as you posted 10timeamsterdammer. I could not agree with you more. (((Bring Back the Guilder.))))
Last time I exchange for Guilders-Sept.2001, I got 2.60 Guilders to the Dollar.
What the Euro has done in reality(Not just with the rate thing, but rising prices as well.) is make a 15 day blow-out trip for two, go from 4,200.00 USD in 2001, to 7,800.00 USD in 2004....(For the whole trip, flight, stay, weed and all.) That is the reality of it all.
Like "Edith Ann" would say,,,,"I am 5 years old, and that's the truth, Sppppppppiiiittt."
LH>> Hoping I am wrong about the Exchange thing, but I do not think so... yeah baby, the pound keeps rising!
it is now 1.50 euro to one pound. great value and a handy conversion rate!!! Yes Indeed, the Pound is a story in itself. I wonder not why England does not want to get rid of the pound, hence,,"Save the Pound" efforts.
It is better than gold. I wished I could get my US paycheck in the Pound or Euro, on an even note that is... Man, that would be the stuff... Not have to worry about the exchange... Hummm, I wonder????? NA, ain't gonna happen...LOL... The Dollar has dropped 2 cents since last Thursday, just as I suspected, a temporary spike. April may have a bigger, but not that much bigger, spike. So, for those traveling in late May to August, make sure to weigh the options on your buying power. Wait for the spike, and make your buy...
Best Regards,
LH Being from the States, I just hate where this Euro thing is going. It's going to cost an arm, leg for everything. Shit. But when I booked my trip, last October, things weren't this bad. What are you going to do, cancel the trip 'cause the exchange rate is shitty? Perhaps a few Channelites could chip in, help pay for my trip? ;-) lol I'll be sleeping at the bar at De Kuil the day of the smokedown. No way!!!! I'm so excited right now, I can't stand myself, neither can anyone else. That's all you do is talk about Amsterdam, people say to me at work. I say screw 'em; they're jealous. From the March 8 NY Times, a report from Reuters:
"Weak Dollar Gains Notice of Buffett
Warren E. Buffett, the billionaire investor, has a $12 billion bet against the United States. Mr. Buffett said over the weekend in an annual letter to shareholders of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., his holding company, that he began investing in foreign currencies for the first time in 2002 and expanded his positions in 2003....
'As an American, I hope there is a benign ending to this problem,' Mr. Buffett wrote, referring to the trade deficit and weaker dollar. He said, however, that the impact could reach 'well beyond currency markets.'
One Berkshire shareholder said the move was an about-face for Mr. Buffett.
'I've attended every annual meeting for well overr the past 15 years, and every year until this year when asked about the dollar or foreign currency, Berkshire's basically said, 'You don't make money betting against the United States of America,' said Tim Russo, a partner at Gardner, Russo & Gardner, which owns about 1,000 Berkshire shares. 'Something must have really scared him.'
In 2003, the investments in foreign-exhange contracts contributed $536 million in Berkshire's profit after taxes. Over all, Berkshire reported that its profit doubled for the fourth quarter of 2003 over the same quarter a year earlier."
George Soros has also taken a large position against the dollar.
Comment: uh-oh.
