BrandX: Stories and Memories from 'The Dam'/Jan. '04/Part II

And it can even make just regular schwag taste pretty good ;)
Hahahaha!!! That Vapo bag..... Patrick got me, too! I was planning on smoking a fat spliff for my first high, but then Patrick comes along and hands me this bag filled with smoke.
I don't recall either, but it got me high. So high that I was telling a story and I forgot what came next!
My wife and Patricks wife was like..... yeah? All I could do was sit there and tell them that I had a brain fart.

Ooooohhhhh! I love the Dam in all its glory!

Nice report man!

Peace-

Would you believe it Pork Chop? We had a good laugh in your honor. In fact, it was just after I told Patrick about our chat--where you mentioned he had done the same for you--when he 'disappeared' momentarily and returned with the fateful bag...

Such irony. (HeHeHe)

Thanks all; stay tuned!

Most X-cellent writing style indeed, a really nice read, thanks for taking the time to post it. I'm looking forward to future installments.
Thanks Stems; good to hear from you.
I'll have more shortly.

By the way, 'You were right!'

Take care,

X
So, the Vapo bag,,,, Yep, I had that one guessed.
Man, I still remember hitting that Vaporizer for the first time. How clean and clear of a hit, yet when you put stronger goods in it, it hits harder and harder. Really killer wasn't it BrandX.
Good report BrandX, simply sweet.
Best Regards,
LH

Ya think? Ol' Farmer Boyo is keeeerect. He & I shared vapos at the same spot. Not my first as I, sillyily, had 1 or 5 at Amnesia earlier that first day....like the proverbial newbie dumbass. I treasure these moments.

Friggin excellent report X!

Your style is inviting. Thanks!

WOOT!
You guys are the best!
Well, all I can tell you is 'it was a hell of a first day!

LH, these things were most unexpected--and therein lies their sweet richness as memories.

Thanks to all of you.

PART II: DAY ONE, CONCLUSION.

?THE END OF A CURIOUS AND MOST MEMORABLE DAY.?

?Here X, this is the Blueberry?? -Patrick

I put the Spoetnik in my pocket and head downstairs and out into the street, heading over to Damrak for a pipe and a look at the exchange rates at the AmEx office. I just can?t seem to locate the head shop on Dam Square, so I double back to the souvenir shops where I buy your typical little metal utility model, which sets me back three Euros. Inside, I notice the myriad tee-shirts, mugs, wooden clogs and smoker paraphernalia, typical of several little shops along this first part of the avenue. I catch a glimpse of the ?ready packs,? which causes me to grin as I look at the little bags containing pipe, papers, filters and a lighter, all ready to go. Only in Amsterdam! I look about a bit, making quick mental notes of the kinds of things I want to possibly buy as gifts, then I head back out the door, turning right and heading up to the AmEx office. Just next to it is a little change spot, so I check their rates as well. In the end, AmEx gives me about 75E per 100US in AmEx checks. I frown, but cannot argue, and end up cashing just a little money and plan on looking around more before changing any more.

So I am all set, it seems. The early grey has given way to a brighter, partly cloudy, sky at this point, and I only want one thing at this moment?to have that luxurious sit-down smoke that I can finally enjoy at length. No ?quick hits upon arrival,? I want to really sit back and take it all in for a bit. It is about noon now, I?m neither hungry nor tired, so I think for a second, and decide not to return to the room just yet. I head back toward Centraal Station, then I take a quick left down a narrow little street, which is just an alley, really, and there it is: can you guess?!

Of course you can! For those of you who cannot, just try and think back to possibly the most famous vaporizer in the annals of the Channelites. That?s right: Café 4:20, aka De Kuil. I walk in, look around a little, then I take a seat at the near end of the bar, just opposite the big window by the entrance. I look around a little more, noting the hardwood interior, the pleasant atmosphere, the dealer area, etc. Then my eyes wander back to the left, toward the window and the view into the alley; I begin to think of the goods in my pocket, and perhaps buying something from here, then I glance at the people sitting in the window booth. ?I know them,? I think. Could it be? Is it? It HAS to be! I look over at them and say softly, ?Excuse me, but, I think I know you.? They look at one another and smile broadly. ?Yes,? I continue, ?You?re Patrick, aren?t you?? They both nod, and it is smiles and introductions all around as I meet and get to know Patrick and his wife. He looks at me and says ?Here X, this is the Blueberry?? I take a little taste of something very smooth and very delicious. ?This is good,? I think, and then I begin to reconsider a purchase of my own. I break out the Moroccan and my new pipe and offer some to Patrick, then head over to the other end of the bar to talk to the guy with the bald head and the horn rim glasses. You know the guy. I quickly scan the menu, noting several items: Caramello, Parvatti Fingers, Nepalese Temple Ball, NYC Diesel, Blueberry?Shiva. ?Hmmm,? I think, ?Shiva?for the Hindu goddess ?the destroyer??? Yep, that?ll do! So I buy the minimum, for 7.50G, and then go back over to the end of the bar. Patrick informs me that the Shiva was the ?taste test winner? from last year. I smile; this is a good omen.

We continue on like this, smoking and talking for a couple of hours or more, then the jet lag begins to set in hard. I tell them I?d better be off, and they themselves mention going to eat, so we head out together and they accompany me back to the hotel. This is only 100 yards from De Kuil, but Patrick is cool enough to help me ?get my bearings.? This was not really necessary, but a genuine gesture indeed?yet this was not the biggest favor that Patrick did for me on that day.

At some point during our brief meeting that Friday, Patrick disappeared momentarily, and then returned with a very curious item. (Can you guess what it was, LH?!) He comes back and says to me ?Here you go, X?? I laugh sooo hard! In his hand Patrick holds the long, clear plastic vapo bag, which he passes to me. I draw deeply, and then I marvel at the different taste, and at the different effects. After two or three of these my scalp felt like I was wearing a skull-cap. Literally! My hair felt like it was standing up, and it seemed like a portion of the top of my cranium was floating just a wee bit above where it belonged. This is most interesting indeed! At that point, I knew I had to make my exit.

So we all head back to the hotel, we say our goodbyes and set the time for our ?official? Channelites meeting the next night. It is just after three when I head in, ask for the key, and go up to the room. I expend only enough energy as is required to remove my shoes, before I hit the mattress.

Some time later I awake, about seven thirty, and I hit the shower. When I come out, I grab the Moroccan and the Shiva, then alternating between the two I proceed to smoke a little and watch a little CNN International. I fool with the temperamental radio, listening to the sultry voice of a lady singing in French, as well as the voice of the Dutch DJ. I can?t decide which I like better, the hasj or the wiet, but one thing is certain: both are fabulous! Sometime later I drift off again, then awake around eleven to the voice of one of the street guys on the bridge outside singing ?Hey Joe,? by Hendrix. In my jet lag/hasj induced slumber, somehow, the sound of this reaches me and I laugh out loud. The sound and spontaneity of my own laughter shook me awake completely and I threw back the curtain to watch. There, on the bridge outside, this typical street guy is hustling the occasional passerby, bantering with his own colleagues as they pass, and singing that Hendrix classic. Somehow, that guy?s voice, singing out like that, brings everything full circle for me. I take one last draw from the instrument, then drift off?

To be continued?
