<shit technology sucks sometimes

... well when it dont work...
IT DOES
Dammit!

BlueBerry
Did you do as I suggested? Delete your current Windows Media Player then go to www.msn.com and download (then install, lol) a new one. Worked for me.
Pax
How do I zoom it? It says I have the lastest version but I don't see any zoom button. BO, how do I zoom? I gotta zoom it!

OTis
For me sometimes it's zoomed in and sometimes it's zoomed out. I didn't think I had any comtrol. Do I?

Help for zoom says: Alt 1 for small to Alt 3 for big

Ain't so much a zoom as a size though.

Thanks for the help on the help for zoom. I tried it. I still can't make out faces, which is what I thought the zoom would let me do. Oh well, loved the sounds, had trams sounds in my room this morning. Nice to wake up to.

Otis
Otis, you're not doing anything wrong, as viewers
can't adjust the webcam's view:)

The zoomed in view was only on that day in May when
I first posted about it. Dick Visser at Terena has sinced
changed it back to it's current view. Way back when, the cam
was aimed a bit more to the right and showed the canal
which I liked even better. It was nice to watch boats go by:)

Dick's a swell guy as he responded to an email I sent him a
couple of years ago. I told him I wasn't hearing any sound and
he checked the cam's microphone and found it had corroded
due to being out in the weather all the time. He replaced it and
we've all been able to hear the wonderful street noises from our
favorite city. Everybody but BlueBerry, that is:( Poor, BB!

BB, I can't get the cam to play on my home computer with its slow
dial-up connection, only here at work with highspeed. Perhaps
that's your biggest hurdle?

Anybody been able to view it with dial-up?

Also, the cam plays better now that I've upgraded
my work computer to a Pentium 4, 512 megs of Rambus, and
a cheap ATI 9200 video card. It was real choppy on my old setup.
Are there any other camera's like this in amsterdam ?
I could sit all day just watching the world go by.
www.overtoom.tv This one has 3 cams, All on the Overtoom, near the east exit of Vondel Park.

www.amsterdam.info/webcam

The second one you have full control over. No sound but they are really cool.

Check them out.
That is a really cool camera. I can hear the pigeons cooing. Thank you to whom ever went to the trouble to put this up.

Does anyone know how to save webcam locations to the windows media player? I have tried several things but I am just too stoopid to figure it out.
Pax

Hope someone answers your question, BO. I gave up trying and just
keep my favorite cam addresses on a Notepad folder on my desktop
and then copy and paste them when I view them.

Another quick way to get in is to open this thread, then right click on the cam's address in the first post on the thread, then click "Open in New Window". This should open the Windows Media Player in its own window.

To see the window at it's largest, click Alt 3, Click "Maximize the Video Visualization Pane, click "View Full Screen". The last are two little buttons below the video pane.

Sometimes, not sure exactly why, I see complete full screen where the video pane takes up the whole screen and none of the control buttons are visible--maybe it is when the bandwidth reaches a certain threshhold?? This is definitely the best, but don't often get it. I have regular DSL and seem to usually have a banwidth between 408 kbits/per sec, and 600 some.

I see the urinoir/pissoir today, for a while there was a steady stream of customers!!! Hahaha!!!

Johannes
The street is called Koningsplein. You can look up its location at www.mapblast.com just choose Netherlands and type in 'Koningsplein' and 'Amsterdam'.

:-)
Michelle
You know it occurs to me that you can really see something about yourself while watching this cam. I mean who else but us diehard Amsterdam freaks would come back to this cam again and again? It certainly isn't the most picturesque view of the city, in fact far from it. Maybe it's just that for a while, you are almost right there looking out a window, catching a view, and hearing the sounds of the city we love.

JohannesVery well put, IMO, Johannes

I 3rd that.. I admit it I'm obsessed and I need to visit "AA" (Amsterdam Anonymous)...

...Boner... (Going for a look at the web-cam..)
I like this webcam maybe because I went to the snackshop last year. It's in Rotterdam and has 3 cameras that you can zoom and pan . I particularly like the second "behind the counter" camera. Make sure your Internet Security is set to medium and then click the webcam button on this page. http://www.calimero-snacks.nl/
Well I'm glad that those of you who weren't aware of
the Koningsplein cam also like it. I am an "Amsterdam freak"
as Johannes put it, that's for sure:) And as he also said, it's
not the most picturesque view of the city, although it was a whole
lot more picturesque when it was pointed to the right, showing
a bit of the canal. I just like being able to check out the weather
in real time - seeing if it's sunny or rainy.

Actually, after checking out the Koningsplein cam, I always go
to the cam at de Supermarkt coffeeshop and have that one playing
on my desktop more often. I love that shop and can't wait to get
back on cam there in September:)

http://www.desupermarkt.net/webcam.htm
Hmmm, I wonder what the deal is with the US flag on the counter?
Pax
Whats the white thing in the center ? Is it what I think it is
If you're thinking that it's one of those 4-man, outdoor urinal thingies,
then you're correct:) They put one up on the pedestrian island
every Friday. Sure wouldn't want the job of hauling that thing away, ha!
Just on Fridays ? Hmm..I guess it doesnt matter what side your on - thats funny - smile !
Yes, that is our long lost "Patrick's" avatar. Only in Amsterdam would they put such a thin in such a public place, lol.
Question. Does anyone know how to save webcam locations to the windows media player? I have tried several things but I am just too stoopid to figure it out.

Did you try first going to the thing you want to save, then go to the menu up top File
Add to Media Library
Add currently playing track. I had to allow it to do some kind of search on my computer. When it was done, I closed out of the media center. When I accessed it again, i picked media library
video
author
Dick Vasser.
Let me know!
I did that, and then I just reopend the media player, went to Media Library. I didn't see any listings but when I clicked on "Now Playing" the Konigsplein cam cam back up. Is there a way to "organize" the medial library, like naming files etc? thamks
Pax
When I log on to Windows Media Player, first there is some kind of news stuff, I hit Media Library, a black screen appears with a menu - Audio, Video, My playlists, Radio Tuner Presets, Deleted items. I click on the Video and get All Clips and Author, Click Author, it gives Dick Vasser....Double click on that and there are those bells!
I don't know about renaming and stuff. I just tried this today. I function with the computer, but do not thrive. It usually takes me days to figure something out. LOL
Good luck!
I just tried Meegybaby's suggestion and then couldn't find
the cam as she (it is "she", isn't it?) described, but then
I somehow tried an "Add to Playlist" feature and now it's listed
under "My Playlists" and works when I doubleclick it there:)

I just started using version 9 of Media Player this week and have
not figured everything out about it. And I never will! The only reason
I upgraded to it from version 7 was because I thought I could save
some of the Koningsplein video feed to a cd so that I could send it
to BlueBerry. But I still can't save the feed. Sorry, Blue:(

Hey, Meegybaby, I just now noticed that your avatar is the dolphin
from Dolphin's ceiling. Cool!
Yes, I am a she.
I know there must be some people who understand these machines, but I don't know who! The media player is asking me to do the updates, but I just keep hitting "later." That will be another puzzle to figure out! Glad that you got it even if you don't quite know how.

I like the dolphin, too. Some Other Dear Amigo thought I would like it and sent it to me. (Took me days to do that too!)
Peace
Holy crap, someone put the pissoir on the tram tracks! It's like 7am Sunday morning and no trams are running. Frommers says they don't start running till 7:30... I guess this must happen a lot, people are walking by and not paying any mind to it whatsoever. Vehicles have to drive around it which isn't so cool on a curve. Ok, a tram just drove up to it at 7:19, stopped and a couple of guys got out and pushed it back up on the island. They didn't seem to have any problem moving it. Ok, order has been restored and all is well now. Another little slice of life in Amsterdam!

Oh wait, there's more. A little blue truck with a white tank in back pulling a cart with 7 pissoirs just pulled up. A guy gets out and and grabs a hose that is fed by the white tank and hoses down the pissoir. He also hoses down some of the pissoirs on the cart which seems a little odd. He gets a bucket and goes over to the pissoir, I guess he poured it in to the pissoir. He lets down the side of the cart, pushes the pissoir into the only remaining space on the cart, puts the side to the cart back up and drives away.

Yeah, the Dutch have got it all figured out. Amazing!
shame I missed all the action - just wish it would swing round towards munt from time to time. If you go on the website for the organisation it reveals that they have all been on a conference to Rhodes last week lucky sods!
What are the crosstreets for the Konigsplein webcam?
Wow, the added sound is cool! I have it playing in a small box next to my explorer internet window. Talking about and looking at Amsterdam all at the same time is terrific. I couldn't easily add the web cam to my favorites list so I put it in a shortcut on my desktop. Works great. Thanks for the update, Viking.

To add the web cam link to your desktop:
1) highlight Vikings link to the web cam service
2) go to your desktop and right click.
3) Select "New". Paste the link into the info box.
4) Check the link box and save.
I found out quite by accident if you right click Windows Media player, (While the cam is playing) it will give you the option of full screen...........It is fantastic........I have been told for months how fast those bicyclists go, but wow........I just saw one cut off a big bus.......Awesome........

Thanks for the link.........Now I'll go visit the others

NINE MORE DAYS & LH & I will be there..........SWEET

Peace........MM
The Dick webcam is pretty good although the sound is really tinny and the picture even when blownup to 200% is too small. Are there any webcams in Holland that are as good as this one at http://www.liveduvalstreet.com/index.htm

Good sound, bigger screen and you can see lots of action.
Live Karoke from NEw Orleans with sound. Wouldn't it be great if Channels would have a live streaming camera in Amsterdam like this one http://www.nola.com/karaokecam/
Some one put the pissor on the tracks again.Naughty,naughty.
incredible cam.. run it fullscreen turned up on laptop and fall asleep

thanks!
Has anybody pulverized hydrocodone and mixed it with your grass before smoking? What happened? Will the burning alter the chemical compounds?

Thanks.
I haven't tried that yet but you MUST get hold of a fairly dry horse turd, grind it up and mix it with your best bud. The effect is amazing!
Pax
Yeeeeeek....

yeah I bet the effect is Amazing,,, guess that is why you are always in a state of Delusion and Confusion!!!

Ha!

BlueBerry
try bananna peels
I like to make a paste from crushed pine cones and crickets and spread it on my lips and tongue before I enjoy a spliff. Far out flavor and effects! Also, putting a pinch of weed or hash up your ass before you smoke really helps extend/expand your high. More is better, and may take a few tries before max effects become apparent, so keep at it.
Discovered these nifty tricks after a heavy pill smoking session. Thankyou pill smoking. Thankyou.

Go huff some more paint and leave the ganja to me.
Me. Forgot to login, busy peeling bananas.

Holland just beat Sweden on penalties in Euro 2004 and will now play Portugal on Wednesday - first time that Dutch have actually won on penalties hence the fuss on the streets
I've been watching the cam everyday for awhile..kind of like my home away from home..Did something big happen today all I see and hear is people screaming, air horns, and people blowing their horns and screaming...Seems exciting just wondering what was up?
Does anybody know how the camera wporks at http://www.calimero-snacks.nl/ or for that matter, how any zoom and tilt camera works. When I was at calimero snack webcam, there were 5 other people there. How can I zoom and point the camera when there are 5 other people doing the same thing at the same time. How can the camera accept from 5 different inputs at the same time? When I zoom in or pan right, how can others zoom out and pan left at the same time?
Michelle, what is the situation in Christiania? I was there in 2000 and really loved it. Is Pusher Street stalls still happening and that very cool smoker cafe? I want to return to copenhagen when i can save up more euros.
Nice!Well, Gypsy, I hardly know where to begin..

The Pusher Street stalls have long since been demolished by the Christianites themselves, in an attempt to fight the political agenda of closing down Christiania altogether (officially because of the drug scene there, unofficially of course merely to get a rather valuable piece of land back under government control and enable financial exploitation of the area). There is still drugs going around there, but the police carries out very regular raids and arrest many of the people involved.

The government launched a contest for architect companies to submit their visions of the future of the area. In protest to the whole concept of destroying Christiania, all the largest and most well-known firms did not participate. The Danish media have not aired any positive criticism of any of the submitted ideas, but there has been plenty of very negative criticism of even the winning contribution.

The Christianites (and a lot of non-Christianites who simply don't think the place should be demolished and turned into yet another fancy and very expensive apartment area; or, for that matter, yet another huge, unnecessary and very unattractive shopping mall) are holding weekly meetings and arranging protest events in the Copenhagen area.

For more information - or, indeed, to electronically 'sign' a protest note, please see the following links:
http://www.christiania.org/~befri/gl.php3
http://www.forsvarchristiania.dk/index.php?id=38
http://www.redglobe.de/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=2001

Christiania itself has a website also http://www.christiania.org/ but unfortunately it does not hold an English section or version

On behalf of many of my countrymen and -women, I thank you for your concern and interest.

Cheers,
Michelle

Nice!
The Koningsplein cam has zoomed in on
the pedestrian traffic on Heiligeweg off Koningsplein.

Now it's possible to readily identify passersby.

So, if you're leaving de Dampkring and headed to
Koningsplein and Leidseplein, give a big wave to the camera:)

Here's the link: www.terena.nl/~dick/cam2.asx
Pretty sweet to also hear the "ding!" of passing trams.. LOL
Thanks, Viking :-)
What a beautiful, sunny day! I liked the tram bells, too. Then I heard the sound of a saw. There's always some construction somewhere!

Aren't you in Amsterdam now. Michelle? You should go there and Wave!
Have fun!
Peace

PeaceNeah, I am in The Hague :-)) Will try to remember next time I get to that area, tho :-)
Dammit!!! How are you people getting that frigging cam to work,, all I can ever get is sound...

I want to see it soooo bad and I can't :(

Advice Anyone???

BlueBerry
Delete your windows media player, go to msn.com and download the newest version. That worked for me.
Pax
Ok BO,, I will try that and let you know if it works....
Thanks!

BlueBerry
yes that zoom in freaked me out this morning.

Its ok but I prefer it pulled out just a bit.
What are the cross streets for this webcam? Thanks in advance!
Thanks for the link Viking.I visit it everyday getting ready for my July trip.
Damn, this is like an instant trip to Amsterdam! I can hear tram bells, bicycle bells, church bells tolling the hour, voices though can't really make out more than a really loud word, those pesky motor scooters, even the occassional bird, and a gentle breeze. If I have my bearings right, the white building on the left is the U of Amsterdam Library. I can see people pretty well but can't make out faces except for the dude on the billboard. And this is the first time I've seen a cam where you can see pretty smooth real time action. Sweet!
Still can't get the thing to come up.........
