Brugges in December

Was there a couple of years ago in Dec. They have a small Christmas Market in the town square & horse drawn carriage rides or you can take a 1 hour mini bus tour of the city. Be sure to buy some chocolates. I was surprised how many visitors there were for Dec....mosly Brits, I think. It's worth a 2 or 3 day stay. Hope you like French style cooking. Enjoy
Anybody been to Brugges in the Winter months?
Is it worth the day trip from Mokum? Are the shops and restaurants all open or is it much better to wait until warmer weather?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Doei,

Hi

My parents visit Brugges regularly in the summer months (they seem to love the place as we love Amsterdam), but my dad tells me that it is pretty deserted and desolate during the winter.

Hopefully someone here can tell you more :)
I have been in both the summer and the winter months. Brugges is spectacular, and in my opinion worth an overnight stay! The summer months are pervaded by a more festive mood and atmosphere. However, the winter too has its' positive sides also. I highly recommend spending at least a full day there to soak up the ambiance, not to mention some amazing brews.
