ODD & EVEN PERSPECTIVES-2004 Trip- Day#8

Waterlooplein(Stopera)-------
Mister Visserplein---------
The stop where you get off.

From there you pretty much walk downhill and to the right and you are there in like 2 short blocks.

As far as "too popular", I wouldnt worry too much. I have seen people here struggle to find Katsu, I think this place is safe.
Bear. thxs for the tram info
time saved is time smoked
i be there tuesday
Rebel, please note my correction above, it is actually THREE stops after you cross the Amstel.
Actually, #6 does begin at Centraal Station, and it passes right by het Ballonetje. I believe tram #20 is no longer running.

I had thought Chooby's avatar was Velazquez, but now I don't think so...

X
Trams #6, #7, and #20 all will pass HB out front, but I believe the #20 is the only one of them that comes out of Centraal.
6 I think.
What tram from central?
Dank u well
About het Ballonetje, what a cool shop. Right around the corner from
hotel Arena where I stayed so it was my first and sometimes last smoke of the day. Bud menu changed a couple times while i was there(pretty good, just not unique) but the 9euro NL ice stayed on the whole time. Amazing stuff for the money. Cheap drinks and toesties. Now lets quit mentioning this place so I don't have to deal with a crowd in March.
This was one laid back, very Dutch shop!

It had the looks and ambience of a larger Cum Laude, before they painted the place in red.

Of the shops I visited this was the best hang.
I was the only non-Dutch in the shop and the atmposhere seemed
right on.
I, too, love that place! Kinda like a coffeeshop outside the Dam, yet in it.

Peace-
seouleast
Your killing me Seouleast, Redbirds!!! Arghhhh!!!
you know im in Houston and your flying that flag, It's cool though,
As a baseball fan Cardinals-Astros was an amazing battle, but as a Astros fan my heart is broken, but i'm pulling for the Sox now, what that curse off thier back and Schilling made me cry the other night, What a stud,
Cards hitter a sick, what a top six
This was one of my favorite shops as well.

We loved sitting upstairs just burnin' and chillin' listening to the jokes and laughter from below.

Great prices here as well. Ice hash 9 e.

Drinks were 1.20 e I think I recall.
Chooby whos the guy with the red beard?
Yeah, great! Let's hype it up on this board so that next time I go it will be filled with fat slobby american tourists and all the prices will be higher! I can't wait!!

Too bad there isn't a mandatory IQ test for you lot to get your passports.

Never managed to get there before but is on my "must visit" list for this trip.

Because even assholes have a right to be assholes and allow us our god-given right to ignore their pitiful bleatings
Didn't notice the man with the red beard in June.

Younger fella, shaved head..a little exciteable but friendly enough to me.

The other dealer had dark hair and was extremely friendly, genuinly a nice guy.

The blond haired girl at the juice counter had a good sense of humor and was a shop favorite.

I hope that one guest doesn't go..he wouldn't fit in there at all. poor attitude.
I think he meant the guy with the red beard in your avatar Chooby!
Didn't notice the man with the red beard in June.

:) - Chooby I think the guest was talking about your Avatar :)

...Boner...
HAHAHA LOL!!!

Not exactly positive who he is... I think he was an Italian artist if my memory is of any use.

agreed was in De Kuil Saturday on the back of reviews on this board expecting great things, what do I find? a cafe full of american assholes discussing how stoned they were. sucking on vapo bags and pulling greeners, like fcuking kids. Had a drink and left 10 minutes later. Thank God air fares are expensive and that its the other side of the Atlantic or the place would be ruined with them.

Well, that sounds like a well-considered opinion based on plenty of non-biased research. Glad to see you doing your due diligence before insulting some 250 million people based entirely on a 10 minute visit to an Amsterdam coffeeshop.

I'm curious about something, tho...By slobby, fat American "tourists" and "assholes", are you gentle folk referring to people who live in Ecuador? Are those who live in Calgary also loud and obnoxious?

Oh, you mean the arrogant, presumptive "asshole" residents of the United States. Which of course is referring to the Havasupai tribe in Arizona. Either them or the community of Amish in Sugarcreek, Ohio that I visited while passing through on vacation last year. Maybe you're talking about my pal Willie, a 57-year-old retired hippie who works a fruitstand in Santa Cruz, California for six months, then hops a flight to Phuket, Thailand, where he stays the rest of the year.

You're painting with a mighty big brush there, brothahs.

"we're the police of the world" "we don't need to learn other languages, screw everybody else" just a few nuggets of information I heard over the weekend in Amsterdam. This from the highly intelligent people who are about to re-elect that Muppet Bush.
Yea Fuck You America!!
Fuck your indian "friends" though I doubt they would call you that.
Fuck the stupid ignorant amish and fuck your pal Willie!
Wha hea!

OK. When you get stoned with friends, don't YOU discuss how high you are or aren't? That's why the phrase 'Good Shit' was coined.

What is it that YOU do when in de Kuil that is so revolutionary & different than those people?

BTW, Why were they assholes? Because they were American? Is it possible to be American and not be an asshole? If I'm not mistaken, isn't de Kuil owned/operated by an American?

My advice to you is to stay out of de Kuil in the future. I know that this American will be spending a LOT of time there this November and I would not want you to be upset.

My pal Willie is getting well-taken care of in Thailland. Thank you for your concern.
“Sometimes, Love Just Ain’t Enough”

I mean this title with the utmost importance........I DO love LH, but if he asked me to do another crawl, I would respectfully have to decline. He would be on his own. Now anything else about the crawl, I’d happily oblige him in all ways concerning the crawl, just not have me actually partake. The picture on Danny Mac’s website should be enough to deter me........I looked like something between Bette Davis in “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane” to Death on a Stick....... even if no other reasons existed.......... I have dozens more...........Suffice it to say, I Loves’s You LH, but that’s my limit. As Pirate would say, “I’ve done me last crawl , Mate..........

Of course Stix was our last CS of the crawl, as our Hotel is only a few blocks away. I was stumbling by then..........although quite gracefully and thinking it was funny. In that three block walk LH repeatedly requested when we got to the room to let him go behind me up those six flights of stairs.......NOT Really stairs, but most of y’all know that. Just in case I was to fall, he would be behind me to catch me.........He even told me twice, “now, don’t forget.” I agreed to those terms. When we got there, we did not make it up one whole flight of stairs before LH got his second wind and forgot. He passed me and of course I began to laugh. Almost uncontrollably. By the time I got to the top LH was laughing just because I was, and we fell in the door. Therefore, with the feat he (we) had just accomplished, (I swear his chest was a little bigger right then) Y’all pretty much know the rest of the nite. SWEET!!!!

So now that the crawl is over, I just wanted to sleep and sleep. That is not like me at all. I am usually out of bed by 6:30 or 7:00 no matter how late I stay awake. Such was not the case on this morning..........Hell, I earned it. So LH got up about 9 am, whereas I did the best I could dragging myself out of bed at 10 am........He took off to get some ice and sodas. We stayed up half the night after the crawl and drank all our stash.......(colas, of course.) I tried to get the cobwebs out of my head while he was gone and take a shower. I knew he would still be fired up after the crawl and raring to go so I tried to be ready to blaze another trail by the time he got back.......You see I said “tried”. I just couldn’t push myself that hard, I will still buzzing from something and was in slow motion. I was finally ready to go. LH waited patiently,( not crabby at all like he usually would be waiting on me. :)

We were as ravenous as a couple of wild dogs put out in the city. We didn’t even walk our usual block to a certain Fish Stand. We just ate at the one right outside the Hotel. Not that there is anything wrong with it, the other is just slightly better. I ordered my usual tuna fish and LH got his Shrimp Broodje. We sat down at a bench right by the canal to enjoy our tasty treats and the beautiful day. This woman sits down across from us to eat her lunch. I really tried not to stare, but it was just so different from being at a ‘deli’ in the states. She had a small cardboard tray filled with herring, onions, pickles, and mustard. She ate that with a little toothpick –fork –thing. It was like a small version of chopsticks in a way. I was mesmerized by the whole ordeal. When she finished, rather quickly I might add, she was ready for a smoke. She whipped out this little bag with tobacco and rolling papers in it. She twisted one up in an instant and fired it up. Can’t you imagine that whole scenario here in the states? People would be freaking out. I found it rather refreshing and wanted to tell her so, but did not.
LH went back and purchased another shrimp and wolfed it down too and we took off to try to find the Pollinator (again.)
We found it this time and Mila just happened to be there. She is a delightful person. We talked about her travels, family, and of course the Pollinator. She showed us the whole process step by step and it really is amazing.
We bought a few necessities; hemp soap, lotion and a few more juicy tidbits and were on our way. We went back ‘home’ so I could freshen up a bit. We debated on taking a nap, stayed 15 minutes and nixed that idea. Phone cards were next on our list . Here we come again...... Central..........We went to the VVVand purchased them to call home.
While waiting on the #1 tram for Leidseplein I couldn’t help but notice how really close those trams are when they meet in crossing. I guess I was too in awe to capture the true effect up until today. What a trip! The Leidseplein was not very crowded and we wandered up to the Rijks Museum. The entire front was closed. The courtyard in front was torn up something fierce. There was a big trench all the way around the front and pipes running everywhere. It looked like they were preparing to put in a moat. How befitting! It was a bit of a madhouse and left you with only guessing at which way you should go. Of course, LH chose the bike path to walk on, he is somewhat nuts at times. Although it was really the best way we found out later. The entrance was moved around to the right side (facing the front) so we made our way in to buy some museum Jaarkaarts. I had scrambled around at home the last night before we left to find a picture to go on my card, and it turned out, they don’t use pictures anymore. It was a let down and LH was upset somewhat. He tried to shrug it off, but I could see it in his face......He had the photos all ready to give them and they said they did not need them. He wanted it more for a souvenir than anything. We purchased the cards and left to make phone calls home and rest awhile.
We walked down Restaurant Row and found a nice spot called Pisa Restaurant on Lange Leidsdwarsstraat 17. LH ordered Lasagna Alflora and I asked for 4 Cheese Lasagna. It was a killer meal and we sat there and chilled out and people watched for about an hour. Wow, I still cannot get used to how some of these women dress. I have seen every fashion statement and hundreds of new ones in just a few days. I saw one woman on a bike with a skirt on and no panties........Not that I care, it was just a shock for a split second....I am open-minded and usually look for different and special panties in case LH misses them. That is not often tho, but he did miss that. Actually it was one of the days he went to Stix CS ahead of me. He would not have cared much for that scene however, he likes some form of panties on them............
We walked around the area and caught the #1 Tram from Prinsengracht stop to NWZ. Voorburgwal stop and hopped off to check E-mails and post some on the forum. Dam, that only seems like a few days ago. I miss it sooo bad. Next we had a nice window shopping experience through Nieuwendijk and headed to catch a #4 Tram home.
Finally, LH was tired at the same time as I. Oh no, we did not go to the Hotel yet. (I knew it was too good to be true.) We got out at Rembrandtplein and raided a bakery. I had come to expect these nightly, and I was hooked but good. Back out to walking.......Dam, I thought we were homeward bound. The Bushdoctor CS was calling LH and I could not refuse him. This was our one and only purchase of weed for the day. However it was Kali Mist Isolator and 25 Euros a gram. We went in and left with 2 grams and now we really were headed in for the night. Talking about sleep all the way there, it was not to come to fruition immediately either. We had to have a few tokes of it. Dam, that stuff is potent. We coughed and laughed our asses off for the first few minutes. Then we decided what the hell, we had a few tokes of Grey Mist to top that off............We had another wonderful night “in bed” and a wonderful day as well for as strung out as I woke up feeling.
This place really is magical and mystical. It brings out feelings and emotions I never knew I had........that or LH. Maybe it’s both. I guess it is both, cause I still get new ones at home now so some of it has to be coming from him. Thank you Baby............ You can have at day nine now, and thanks for your patience.........All of y’all too, thanks...........’Til day 10

Peace..........Maid Marian
Wow Maid Marian, great to see you back in action! That was really a sweet story, and actually put me in a bit of a reverie as you two must have felt that day. It's all been such a great read, thanks so much!

Best Regards,

Johannes
Another excellent report, Thankyou MM...

...Boner...
I also enjoy your reports. You already seem like a seasoned pro, after 8 days of your first trip. Sounds like you and LH paced yourselfs just right on the crawl. Now, you really skipped over the museum. Did you guys spend much time in there? Did you like the Rembrandt's? It is a big overwelming place. I think I read that it has 12 million works of art, including 5000 paintings. I spent about 4 hours in there and came out exhausted. I remember the Van Gogh much better. Thanks for the story. I am looking forward to LHs final.

milehigh
Nice one Baby. Really good writing, as the plot thickens... You are the 'Bestest' co-author one could ever ask for!!! Cause 'That was a lot better 'n what I had.
Just when you think the shadow on the wall that has been following is your own, look around, you may not be alone...
I mean that in the most romantic terms!!!
I can't wait for the final either MileHigh, as that will be part 17.
I got a part 11 coming up soon that will smoke ya pants off, so to speak. MM has a few days coming up that will do the same...
Ah, but for now,,, looks like MM opened the door for me to post number 9.
What a pleasant thing to come back from vacation to. Patience pays off once again. Another nice read MM, thanks for sharing. I'm off to read Day 9 now..woo hoo!

moe.
Thanks for continuing the story, MM.
Glad to read you really enjoyed your trip:)
Been so busy as of late, I haven't got the chance to catch up on your and LH's trip.
Glad to hear that your recovery from the previous day's crawl wasn't too traumatic (so you slept in a bit, so what - we all need that once in a while).

Sounds like you had a great day too.

I see I'm one more day behind, gotta' get to the next thread!

agreed.
I got to HB by taking either the 9 0r 16 tram for THREE stops after it crossed the Amstel.

Here's the order of stops:
