I'll hold the mask up tonight...
If I was contemplating a move to Amsterdam - would it be best to get a job secured first? or accomodation first?
I thought of renting for 1 month whilst looking for a job, but this could just prove to be a very expsensive holiday if no jobs turn up
Any suggestions would be cool Hey guys, I came across this site today on msn.nl.....www.dotjobs.nl
Maybe another one to add to the bookmarks if you're looking for a job. If anyone has any info on getting work in Amsterdam or anywhere in Holland please e mail or call me Cattmann13@aol.com 1-808-221-2899 ,i presently live in Hawaii but will move to Amsterdam on the next plane out of here if i,m sure i can have work .
I,m in the automotive business here as a mechanic but will take any kind of work in Holland for i,ve been there many times-great partying etc. Also i hope employers are not as hard to work for as they are in Hawaii.I live in LA,California for 21 yrs never got fired from a job,i was born in Chicago and lived there till i was 23 and nver was fired from a job.I lived in Hawaii 4 years and last year i was fired 3 times-hope people are easier to work for there! It,s not my character because like i said i nhad no trouble working for anyone in LA or Chicago. Here in Hawaii it,s something else,my reason for such harsh words is-i feel very insecure at my job i have now and will feel like taking the next plane to Amsterdam and hope for the best if i should loose this job.I have heard from many people some from this board that there are ways to get around the red tape.Any help will be appreciated and i will make it worth your while if someone gets me work and living there If I was contemplating a move to Amsterdam - would it be best to get a job secured first? or accomodation first?

It depends on what sort of experience you have and how brave you are.
If you've got a decent amount of knowledge and skills you might find work easy to come by. If not, you might struggle. Be aware that the Netherlands has an awful amount of red-tape involved when it comes to immigration, so research this thoroughly.
Good luck. Many thanks Hugo
After my studies, I will have a degree in computer multimedia so hoping this will open some doors for me in the Netherlands, or more specific in Amsterdam :-) It depends on what sort of experience you have and how brave you are.

If the Netherlands has a lot of red- tape involved when it comes to immigration then why the hell has Amsterdam 60% more immigrants than Dutch people then??? It depends on what sort of experience you have and how brave you are.

Because Hugo's referring to the red-tape involved with people from the U.S. immigrating. Plus asylum seekers don't seem to mind red-tape as much as we do... having moved from the UK to Amsterdam in early November 04 I would throughly recommend anything you can do to get work before moving here, do it... although most people won't waste their time even reading your CV until you are based in holland (or atleast have an address)..it still worth a go...
both me and my girlfriend made the jump without employment setup... catch 22 comes to mind... we really did find that nobody would give us a job until we lived here, yet estate agents wanted anything upto 4 months rent in advance (having no job we laughed and walked away) so Catch 22 made us take a leap of faith..
red tape does excist but is nothing to worry about.. pretty simple and stress free (i don't know any dutch at all and we managed it quite simple)
I found a job witin my first month (luckerly infact Very lucky) but this is now coming to an end (1st March - first unemployed day) and as yet i must confess to struggling to find a new job... i have attended a few interviews... but the fact I cannot understand Dutch is holding me back... so i would take all the dutch lessons you can before coming over.... even just a month's worth is better than nothing.. as it is you who will lose out in the long run nobody else.... (last job i went to i would be working in a team of 5 abut as 1 of them didn't know any english, they refused me the job - doh - but it's their country so i accept it)
summary is: save as much cash as possible (obviously)
Learn as much dutch as you can (you'll never get fluent - don't think most dutch people are fluent)
find out the addresses of the alien police, tax office etc....
and then once you have found a flat - just go for it and keep your fingers crossed...
PS: we did find a nice apartment in the end (we are living right oposite Dam square on N.Z Voorburgwal) 900 euros and 2 months up front (1 for deposit and one for commision - through an agency you see) Hey guys, good advice from Ninja there...
I have just moved to Rotterdam with my girlfriend and I found a job with the site originally mentioned http://www.dotjobs.nl
We used it and both my girlfriend and I found it really easy to use and with it not being as big as Monster and the like, found it quick and effective.
My girlfriend started work on Monday and I hopefully will secure employment following a second interview this week!!
Good Luck guys. nice one well in Dave.. good luck in Rotterdam i hope you enjoy it...
whats the place like... i see they have some hardcore parties over there... deffo gonna take a look over there... anything specific we should aim to see??
(always a tricky question that one) nice one well in Dave.. good luck in Rotterdam i hope you enjoy it...

Hey Ninja, there are indeed many parties in Rotterdam, but hardcore wouldn't be my scene entirely! - it's a cool place though, always lots of stuff going on....depending on where the work is, we will move again we think...I would prefer to be in Amsterdam in all honesty, so we'll see what happens.
Cheers
Dave. Hey Ninja
Just wondered by what you say, is your rent ?900 per month? www.michaelpageassociates.nl sorry forgot to come back to this thread until now...
yeah yeah... glad to hear your enjoying rotterdam but unlucky that you would prefer to live in amsterdam and to the guest yep,my rent is 900 euros a month... about 587 quid a month for a view over dam square...
whats the query with that?
www.IDAhousing.com
is where we got the flat from... but the landlord sucks we've had no heating since mid-nov (nice timing that) and for a week or so we had no electricity either... were actually only paying 300 euros a month until he pulls his finger out... (so not the best house in Amsterdam but great location) can't fault it for that... it will be a killer smoke.... No actually the one I had was a small fishbowl type base and had 4 holes for the hose's to go in,so you could have just used it yourself if you cover the holes.we had some amazing times with that thing.I used to work at tower records on 4th st. in nyc and I kept it in the back room I worked in,people would wonder why the classical/jazz cassette area always smelled like herb. It is a US army oxygen mask, with two hoses and two holes under the eye lenses, so four ways. It also has a vent hole, which lets in air when pushed in.
I will attach two bongs to it, will be next weeks smoking device, hehe...
Man, your life really sucks doesn't it? LMAO!
I will be watching and expect to get a nice "contact" high.

I will attach two bongs to it, will be next weeks smoking device, hehe... I used to have a four way gas mask type bong that was the greatest.you sucked in with both your mouth and nose, kinda like getting gas before an operation.if this thing is anywhere close to that it will be a blast,I will try it out in 5 days. RooR bowls, they are big enough! The concept is nice, but if your lungs pull harder then mine, don't you get all the smoke? And if one gang member takes his mouth off, then bang, the other three get a shot gun of sorts. Nice idea though. Will be curious to see if you can make it work.
milehigh I'm thousands of miles away, but I'm there dude!
That bowls seems kinda small for 4 people.
24 days.
chuck. Have a live look in on how we break in our latest smoking device: The Gang Bong!! Live on webcam at Willie wortel's!
Pics and more info here:

Fastest way to go, go Overgrow!! It works like dynamite, all 4 have to suck properly though...
So far, 8 people tried the device, I have them on video. the evening is still young... Hey Nol, zoom in a bit will you, lol. I got to the Webcam just before 20:00 you guys were just finishing up, lol. Looks like a lot of fun.

Yep I have to agree from what I can tell by the photos. You would possibly experience the problem MHD suggested. Depending on how the individual mouth pieces enter the water at the bottom would determin whether or not you would get the suction feeling you get when you are hitting a hooka with friends.
As with hookas it is always proper to cover your mouth piece when not taking a hit.
I know I could clear that bowl easy myself (hahahaha) I have huge lung capacity.
But it still looks like a cool fun device to spend time with you friends.
Thanks NOL,
Love you MHD,
MobilJenny... We are alomost there dude yeah! If i see ya... let's see if we can clear that bowl.
Rich It needs a proper suck to get it going, and it works fine.
After the major first suck, a lot of smoke hangs around in the chamber, those who want, can swallow that too.
The Pipe supplies enough smoke for six!
Come and give it a go, you'll see....
I took pictures and video, pictures soon, video later. Who the hell am I to doubt the master. OK, see you the end of April. Does Sinsemilla still have that tall glass bong? It gives a nice hit.
