Mrs Gladstone Got some new fencing which stops neighbours looking into her garden (must be her other neighbour because I cant see would mean me?) but I think it is against planning regulations, so I'll call the council for her.

Thanks Bas, maybe you can finally put an end to this sheisse.
I hope you banned Docski, Birdman and MHD. The IQ of this forum will be raised 75 points.
You can read those in the amsterdam section, since
this section is for guests who want to ask questions
about amsterdam and don't want to sign up as a member
What problem do you have with me?
All are solid, regular and helpful contributors of this forum. Are they not supposed to be provocative? We all have differing opinions about certain things. We all have had different experiences in our lives. By sharing them, we learn. Makes the world go around.
Docski, Birdman and MHD are some of the BEST contributors to the Channels forums.

NewYork, New York.

Thats a good one
Many Thanks bas, a well done and underappreciated job.
I in no way intend to speak for our most excellent moderator, but upon reading this post, I immediately thought about how many times I have seen quibbling over definitions. I put this forth for your consideration.

from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_attack

Generally, a personal attack is committed when a person substitutes abusive remarks for evidence when examining another person's claims or comments. It is considered a personal attack when a person starts referencing a supposed flaw or weakness in an individual's personality, beliefs, lifestyle, convictions or principles, and use it as a debate tactic or as a means of avoiding discussion of the relevance or truthfulness the person's statement. It works on the reasoning that, by discrediting the source of a logical argument, namely the person making it, the argument itself can be weakened.

This line of "reasoning" is fallacious because the attack is directed at the person making the claim and not the claim itself. The truth value of a claim is independent of the person making the claim. No matter how morally repugnant a person might be, he or she can still make true claims.
As an administrator, I appreciate your efforts and your dilemna. This is a great site, most people are helpful and good. You are doing a fine job.

Long live Channels.
Ok, first of all i am really pissed that some really trying to
ruin this forum. Although stated often before i really don't
like to ban users. I have no other choice now then to act firmly.

So, first of all, i have disabled to option to sign up automatically,
every sign up now has to be approved by me. Thx for the
extra work!

I really don't care if it's getting rough in the political section,
but the personal attacks must stop.

If i see more of those, i will delete those accounts immidiately
without warning.

Please report those directly to me !

That said, i still think this is a great forum.
Remember, this forum is here for many years and
every once in a while things go wrong.
On those occasions i have to step in and take action,
in the past this helped and i hope it will now.

Have a great summer,

Bas
I'm a new guy, but i have already gotten a lot of help from many Channelites and BAS personally. Its a great forum and i hope it stays that way for all the Mokum lovers still to come.

Hey Bas,

First: Dank u wel for everything.
Second: Is there any way that you could keep this at the top of the forum, kinda like a 'sticky'?
Just a thought.

-the carver
Thanks for that extra work bas... If possible and I happen to meet you in the 'dam I smoke a bowl with you... if paths cross
Bas,

Channels is a wonderful website to learn more about Amsterdam.

The Guest section is a valuable tool for newbies and old members alike, because of the ability to ask questions and receive good answers on where to go & what to see and do in AMS.

The politics section is quite useful to allow people to discuss (and argue) regarding their feelings and opinions about world events of the day.

It is too bad that many visitors believe that personal attacks & flame wars are a substitute for factual debate.

I for one am very grateful for the Channels website. Too bad a few bad folks are attempting to ruin a valuable resource and fun website for the rest of us.

Many thanks Bas for creating Channels. Keep up the good work.
Bas, I sure do appreciate this forum. It is a shame that you have to ban users, but there is no alternative in some unfortunate cases. Perhaps it is just one or 2 rotten apples and after some time you can go back to the old way.

Peace,
Philter
I'm brand new here but I've been a member of far too many BBs that were ruined by flame wars. I wholeheartedly support your position!
You can check the times on various sites... http://www.coffeeshop.freeuk.com

all are different. I don't go clubbing, but I am sure the amsterdam clubs go all night long.
Hi everyone!

Here comes my 2nd question... :P well, i just wanted to know what time are certain places like coffe shops, smart shops... and clubs or discos.

For example, in Spain is very usual that pubs or discos are open until 5 or 6 am, even though law says they must close at 3 am, but if you go out at weekend you go back home not before 4 or 5... or 8 am...hehe

I wanna know the reality, not the official schedules -U know

I´ll strike back soon... :P

Thanks a lot!
The latest coffeeshops close at 1am during the week and 3am on Fri and Sat, no later by law, and they take it very seriously. Some bars may stretch it and stay open a little later, but not by much.

Most falafel places and FEBOS and such close around this time as well. The only places that may be open after 3am would be in the train station, and even then I highly doubt it. It's common knowledge in the Dam that the only places open for business between 3am and 6:30am or so are the clubs.

There are two 24 hour easyinternet cafes in the center of town at Damrak 33 and Reguliersbreestraat 22 (near Rembrandt Sq)

There are about a dozen night shops, but most shut around 1am. Hope this helps
Yes, you help me a lot.

Ok, then I´ll look for the closing time of clubs and discos, cause we are used to go out at night until late..

Thank you very much!
Most bars close at 1AM, but there are many late night bars open to 3AM

Many clubs stay open to 3 or 4AM Sunday - Thursday and 4 or 5AM on Friday & Saturday nights. Some night clubs stay open later for special parties, but not on a regular basis.

The train station is open all night, but after 1AM you must show your ticket to the security near entrance.

The 24 hour easy internet closed down some time ago.

There are several 24 hour gas stations in Amsterdam with small stores that are open.

As stated all coffeeshops close by 1AM Sunday-Thursday and 3AM Friday & Saturday. Some do close earlier.
ye 1am most times iv been over there
we ran out of weed and found it impossible to get some from anywhere as they were closed
we ended up buying some off some american hippy
I didn't know about the 24 hour gas stations IMML, do you know of any in the center or Nieuwmarkt/Waterlooplein area?
No, the only "late night" gas is either on Europa Blvd near the RAI or the station across from the Police HQ on Elandsgracht.

Otherwise, they are before 11:00 stations (and most before 6)

My recommendation is to fill up BEFORE coming into the city if it is gas that you need.

There are more than those 2 open 24 hours. I pass a 24 hour gas/store all the time on the Sarphatistraat in the east of Amsterdam across from the windmill.

The only one I know in the center is on Marnixstraat near Elandsgracht. There are none open 24 hours in the Nieuwmarkt/Waterlooplein area.
Gay Pride Amsterdam is the yearly highlight for gay Amsterdam. This year Amsterdam Pride will be organised from 4 till 6 August 2006. Don't miss this thrilling weekend, as Amsterdam Pride is one of the biggest and most special gay prides around the globe! This girl I know that is from about 40 minutes outside of Amsterdam was talking about the gay pride parades and things. She is not gay but she says it such a fun event to go to. I am not gay but one of my good friends is and by the looks of Andrigel's pictures it looks like a fun event anyone can have fun at. Cheers to the lighthearted Amsterdam
