New Coffeeshop

Hello channelites and Amsterdammers,
I'm a newbie here, but a too frequent visitor to the Paradise city!
I've found the Channels extremely useful over the years, so have finally decided to put my 2 Euros worth in as well and sign up.

I used to be a real fan on the Cafe Bel Mondo at Nieuwmarkt, as it was a great place to watch the morning happen, overlooking the Waag and market, but they decided to stop selling gear, cos it was too much hard work, which was a shame.

Last week, I found the replacement, in a new CS called the Green Place, a few doors down from Bel Mondo, and was really impressed with it.
It's got seating outside, and you can smoke there. The interior is modern, soothing and funky, and the seating area out the back is well comfy.
Staff seemed friendly enough, and I THINK I bought some widow there, (I may be mistaken, it was towards the end of the week...memory starts to become unreliable...) that was crystal packed, and buzzing.

The drinks and weed were a bit more than you'd normally pay, but no dearer than the other slightly more expensive places.

I guess I'm reminiscent of this spot, as I had my first Dutch J at the Bel mondo, on a sunny morning in 1995, and it's stuck with me ever since. I know that this first experience and feeling is common with a lot of you, so you'll know what I mean.

I hope to contribute to the forums regularly, and give out any helpful stuff along the way, as well as benefitting from this wealth of experience you all have.

Peace and love to one and all,
The Puffsta

From central station walk down the Zeedijk to Nieuwmarkt. Go past coffeeshops Rock-it and Hill Street Blues and about 100 yards down on the same side of the street is Green Place Coffeeshop.
Thanks NOTTOBORING,
it's at the Nieuwmarkt, opposite the Waag http://homepages.cwi.nl/~lynda/USI03/SMIL/miniFiets/weighhouse.jpg

Turn right outta C/station, x over to the church, walk down Zeedijk until the end, and it brings you to the Nieuwmarkt. Turn right into Kloveniersburgval, and it's 50m on the right, facing the bridge with the mosaic seats on it.

Enjoy!
If this place sells weed I'll make a note of it and add it to my coffeeshop map when I'm next working on my map below........

Any more details about this place you can give.?
It's a fully fledged CS, weed hash etc, but I can't give you details, cos I wasen't really in an attentive mood, after a day in the Vondel on the happy shrooms, so sorry about that., I'm sure other Channelites will have details for you soon enough.

I found your map very useful on my last visit Nemisis, it's a great contribution, thanks.
No problems, I've made a note and will get around to adding it next phase I'm working on my map.

Glad my map was useful for you, at the moment I'm now adding the top ''Cafe's'', ''Brown Bars'' and ''Restaurants''. Not finished yet but will let everyone know when I have.

I believe that Coffeeshop Green Place use to be Coffeeshop Experience located at Kloveniersburgwal 4. It opened about 6 months ago. It's the first coffeeshop to reopen in Amsterdam in the last 5 years or so that was not bought out by an existing coffeeshop I believe.
Kind regards 'itsmymagicalife' thanks for your feedback.

While I'm here do you happen to know info about the following

1. Has Chocolata closed but now been bought out by Abraxas. Is it called Abraxas, Chocolata still or something else.?
2. Has Free City now closed.?

cheers for any help
Nem
I have heard rumors Free City closed, but I can confirm that a branch of Abraxas has opened where Chocolata once stood. It sounds like a lot of fun. I love the old Abraxas (for the atomsphere, mainly) and can't wait to try this one.

Hey NEM, you may want to check out ACD for these other central shops:
Rock-it, Del Mondo, Pick up the Pieces, Future, Andalucia, Extase, High Time Barraka, Soft Temple, Bulldog Lounge - just north of Anyday, and Paradise (Though why anyone would go to the last two I'll never know)

ACD is out of date - Del Mondo has not been a coffeeshop for over a year.

welcome to the channels!
i visited this shop during queens day; the staff was very friendly, and quite proud to show off their nearly foot long buds. Seemed a shame to watch him chop it up for my small purchase. Nice buds, but not my kinda place to hang out.
Kind regards 'itsmymagicalife' thanks for your feedback.

You now by now that Chocolata is now another Abraxas coffeeshop.
Today I rode by 233 Marnixstraat where Free City coffeeshop use to be. It is still closed.
I LOVE Soft Temple's "Brain Storm" strain. I am SO sorry I missed them on my recent trip, but I was focused on the Centraal area more. Thanks for reminding me JBomb.
