Euro's and Cash

Well, today I just exchanged $800 dollars american to Euros. I ended up with 575 euro. Did I recieve a better exchange rate then if I would have waited to get to the dam? Also, how many Euro do I really need for 5 days? I know it depends on what I want to do, so I figured 575e plus a couple hundred more could afford me a decent breakfast every day plus maybe a couple fancy meals( I definitely want to eat at the Elf), and pretty much all the smoking I could want. .. ...o.k. maybe a massage. Am I cutting it close here? Just wondering.
is this just spendo money i assume? and not including paying for your hotel? i'd say 100euro a day is plenty, but if your tastes are expensive, get a few extra in. doesnt your hotel include brekky in its booking price?
for your massage i'll have to take my happy hands with me, i'll exchange a mini massage for a looza or two if you're coming to the amnesia meet. my happy hands are the best, you'll see what i mean.
the elf? havent heard of that place. upmarket is it? less than 3weeks now.
ps any exhanges you do in dam will probably rsult in an excess charge, so just bring over as much as you can in your money belt. you'll get charged extra for withdrawing cash overseas, unless you check with your bank first that they dont do this. worth taking a card just in case though! remember your chip and pin!
Sold. ; ).. Elf is on the far east end of Oosterdokskade on the map I'm looking at. I guess its on the eleventh floor in some building, supposed to have a nice view. I'm arriving on the 15th with a friend of mine, if you want to meet up before the first arranged time let me know; ). Counting day by day now, very excited.
I think you may have saved a bit by using a Debit Card in the ATM's upon arrival, as they usually give close to the going rate sans tons of fees.

Whatever you do, don't go to the "Currency Exchange" places if you're interested in saving fees.

As it stands today, $800 equates to 619 euro, so it looks like you ended up losing 44 euro in the process somewhere.

Check out the link below for current rates.

575 euro for 5 days sounds like a good time to me. Any less would be cuttin' it close imo.

Have a grande trip!
That sounds like the old Post Office building where the Stedelijk exhibits are being shown while the Stedelijk is being renovated. It's a tall building with a restaurant on the 11th floor (could be Elf). Go in the daylight you can see for miles.
