Now theres a true fisherman. I guess I am lucky that way we even have ponds stocked with trout in the city for the kids. The worse day fishing is better than the best day at work!!!!
I would recommend the Hawaiian Mushrooms for bait. You don't even need a pole. You just drop a couple kilos in the canal, and within an hour all the fish will come to the surface. Then you can take your pick! It does take the fight out of them, but it makes for one hell of a fish fry.

you don't need a license for your fish.

I got a license for my pet cat, Eric... i need one for Eric the Fish.

Pot? Kettle?

:-)
this from a mod. hmmmm.

we shall see.
You can fish in Amsterdam? Never heard of that!
me neither!! i never saw a fishing rod/fisherman in a-dam come to think of it,lol i cant picture some1 with a rod out the back of the ferry going over to noord!! lol you prob catch an old bike wheel.
But yea!! you may find some good sea fishing spots like stramager (spelling) beach thats not to far from a-dam!! also i hear harrlem has big sand dunes also.
My neighbor's brother across the canal fishes sometimes. I asked him if he ate them and he said "No"

I see a kind of a duck called a Grebe swim by then dive for about a minute or two under water and come up with a little fish in his mouth. He doesn't throw them back.

The canals in Amsterdam are getting cleaner. It will be only a matter of time before you can eat the fish in them. IMHO

Thinking of it, at the Bijlmerbajes (a prison in Amsterdam) there's a sign at the canal around it which says you're not allowed to fish there. They hung it there after some men were fishing there to distract the guards' attention of someone escaping from jail haha.
The last time I was at the Artis Zoo they had a mock up of a canal in one of the big aquariums!

Some of the fish looked a bit too fancy to be living in an Amsterdam canal though!

Peace, Des.
I've asked about fishing in Mokum before, even did some exploring on trips..I've seen fisherman on the river at Zaanse Schaans...they were catching mostly eels....

Looks like lake trout....and I caint go there.....
Don't they have big northern pike over there?

Thats what I want to catch.

/waiting for the Canuks to flip me shit
I'd like to report a joke theft.

I imagine you would probably be better to fish the Ij or the Amstel rather than the canals more for fear of catching something other than fish such as bikes, bodies or condoms. My friend swears he caught a ten pound luminous ribbed knobbler once. It was this big.....

Yeah, I remember when they had the new aquariums and everyone made fun of the canal one - like there's actually healthy fish in there haha.

Haha, yeah, I bet they're stronger than nucleair weapons, which is an awkward comparison and doesn't make any sense, actually... Oh well.

I live on a "kade", but not at a canal like the regular ones. I think we have fish in the water, there's also a lot of ducks and trees and all that. I love staring out the window on rainy Sundaymornings in my pyjamas and watch the rowers getting all soaked and all.
Visual Humour your thing then? The suffering of others? ... Dare I say it ... Slapstick?
Hahaha, shut it you! :-P

I do like a bit of sadism at times. But hey, I watch Fawlty Towers and Monty Python too!

Oh I have no clue what the real name is, it could be Overamstel seeing it's very close to metrostation Overamstel, but the people call it Bijlmerbajes. It's also close to the Bijlmer, and bajes is like ancient slang for prison.
Ah ok.
The hell with fishing, just let me put a duckblind along one of those farm drainage ditches in the fields outside of Amsterdam. Damn I saw a lot of ducks in those ditches, and mostly mallards. Apester
