Im moving to amsterdam to live with a few graffiti artists and we are/will change amsterdam forever!!

i promise all my fellow channalites that i will most definatly big the forum up in our crews demolision of the forbidden city, c our pieces in all sorts of places starting with all lines of the underground to the back streets of centrum.

Any one interested in graffiti as the purest artform to the tags bombed on 50 foot high buildings, please reply with any knowledge of amsterdam graffit will be greatly appreciated...

You're a vandal; nothing more.
You've got something of NYNY about you.

For the recod, that is not a Good Thing.
cool, what will be your tag?

I never believe that grafitti hurt anyone. But simple tagging in one colour with no style to the writing is boring - I hope you draw some cool stuff.

Who is the famous tagger in England? Tox? His tags look shit, he may have a talent for travelling and breaking in but has no talent for graffiti
I don't mind graffiti, but I do mind ugly tags that look like they were put on a wall by a drunk toddler. Oh, and I also don't like people doing graffiti on 17th century buildings. That's just vandalism.
cool, what will be your tag?

How about TalentlessSelfishEcoVandal ?
Stay at home and crap in your own back yard if you must.

Let me guess; you're a clown during the week spreading happiness to all of the UK?

Listen, the guy paints, scratches, marks, whatever on property that is not his without asking; that's vandalism. I don't care if he's Vincent Van Gogh.
Graffiti is obviously big in the Netherlands ... a freight train passed us on Haarlem train station with all of its 20 odd wagons heavily graffited!

I don't have a problem with that, but I would draw the line at tagging private property!

Peace, Des
Good riddance filthy feral yoof.

Mumsy and sisters wave bye bye:

I've photographed some and can appreciate the quality of some artists work, if done appropiately and not on old buildings, you should appreciate others work, architecture can be art to.

I've put some up online as I think the better work wants documenting as it often has a brief life before being sprayed over on the popular sites.
This little panty stain TOSSER is going to Amsterdam to tag skateboard half pipes? Right. He also holds historical architecture in high regard and would never hump his drunken, passed out sister.
Just another TAG on the Wall.

But some do better

and

Those I saw putting up graphiti were not "Little Tossers" but a variety of adults some obviously locals who were taking a lot of time over the better peices.

There are many expanses of concrete, covered with colourful graphiti lifting something dull and grey visually.

NO I don't think random tags done badly in inappropiate places is on.

I do like to see more street art it make an often dull environment brighter.

Not all of them are good as Banksy though

I know it must be hard for some but can we debate an issue without hurling abuse?
It just makes you look stupid and detracts from anything intelligent you may have to say.

Listen. Freddie mate. The sprayed halfpipe isnt making any kind of urban statement nor is it art. Infact, its nothing more than a huge fucking eyesore in a public space . Inflicted on the world by another mindless dimwit.

The image reflected your impression of a graphiti artist so does communicate a message so maybe it's art after all.

You may not like it which is your right as we all have a right to an opinion but art should provoke a reaction and this does.
Art comes in many forms, not all are actractive, Damien Hirst's animals in formaldahyde, Tracy Emin's bed or even Duchamp's urinal

But all provokes a reaction and is someone's expression of something.
You may not like it or what it has to say but that does not mean it is not Art.

OK a lot of Graphiti is no better than a dog marking a lampost, a brief "here I am" TAG but some has a lot to say and is done well.

FF
Because it's "Art"...does that mean you can plaster it all over public property? Does that mean it's ok to disfigure 17th century buildings?
No I don't think it does. But it would make sense to allow use of places like bridge supports, bare concrete walls etc. There are no public spaces where the individual can put up thier own art, not just graffiti.

Disfiguring 17th century architecture is never good weather by graffiti, advertising hoardings or development.

FF
You can make a lot graffiti on your walls... they are so nice!

FF
Why would it make sense to let people paint whatever they want in public spaces?

If you have permission to do it, it's art. If you don't, it's vandalism. Cut and dry.
I hope you can draw better than you spell. Why don't you try learning proper spelling and grammar, so when you write something, people won't see you as an uneducated vandal. (Which you are, you know.)
As for a sensible suggestion, why don't you use colored chalk, and draw your art on sidewalks?

It would make sense as it would offer people a place they can use so hopefully decrease the need they feel to spray on places you don't want them to.
Also it would fun to see what people can do and I don't just mean Graffiti an area where art in any media by the individual can be tried would be interesting and encourage people to express themselves.
Humans have been drawing on the wall since the days of the cavemen it's a form of expression and why shouldn't individuals have a chance to "Have a go" ?
By your lights Bansky is a vandal but one council Bristol, I think, was upset when thier Bansky art work got painted over in error, they certainly did not think he is a vandal.
FF
Not all of them are good as Banksy though

I'm a big fan of Banksy. I got his book for my birthday, some excellent stuff in there. The difference between Banksy and most taggers is Banksy actually gives me the impression he thinks before he draws something.

'coloured'.
666 SATIN RULES!
Woody, there are two ways to spell it. 'Colored' is the proper way in the U.S., and 'coloured' is the way it's spelled in G.B. and maybe parts of Europe. Aside from that, what do you think about my idea of doing graffiti in chalk, on sidewalks?

Banksy is a one off. His art makes statements both social and political. Its often very funny too.
A million miles away from a zit faced adolescent armed with a paint spray and a delusional belief in their own artistic creativity.
Does anyone remember the Movie Turk 182?

(-:
Stop emulating the American ghetto and pull your pants up!
BASICALLY... EXACTLY
OMG, this moronic dickhead agrees with Birdman!

And stop watching reruns of Dallas.
When balck people do this graffitti, its vandalism, when whitefolks do it, its art. What a fucking joke.
what a load of crap, it's all vandalisam...
playing the race card on this is ridiculous
If you have permission to do it, it's art. If you don't, it's vandalism. Cut and dry.

We finally have an answer to the question "What is art?"

It's whatever local politicians say it is.

I guess I should have said "it could be considered art by some". The point is that if you don't have permission; it's vandalism.

Here in the USA, someone throws Jesus on a crucifix into a jar of their piss and it's called art.

So how can a zit faced adolescent armed with a paint spray and a delusional belief in their own artistic creativity become an artist?

Only with practice, even if someone is naturally talented they still need to practice to get better.

What is art?
What ever the artist decides is art
Duchamp decided his urinal was art not the art establishment or the public.
Thankfully politicains have no say in the matter and can only censure if they feel it is obscene.

The colour, sex, length of hair or any other IRELEVANT detail is not something I would consider in deciding if I think something is art or not and neither should anyone else.

Judge any art on it's own merit or lack of. DOH!

FF.

Maybe. It could be both at the same time, though.

Same here. But how do you know it isn't?

what a waste of a perfectly good jar of piss.
I like to believe everyone has his own definition of art.
Vision + Talent = Art (IMHO)

Peace
To me art is the ability to explain the meaning and purpose of something that is created.
To me art is what moves me.
Waaay to strict, interpretation can be in the eye of the beholder.

Ha ha, I figured someone was gonna post something like and then say "So you think that's art? LMFAOROTFTMHOBILSH" (that's Laughing My Fucking Arse Off Rolling Over The Floor Tearing My Hair Out Because I'm Laughing So Hard).
I look at art as future profit.

You've got something of NYNY about you.

The story about the guy with the 'ear' on his arm made me remember this old chestnut ...

If you had a 12 inch dick growing out of the centre of your forehead, how many inches of it would you be able to see?

The answer is 'none!' ... 'cos you'd have a fuckin' big pair of sweaty bollocks hanging in front of your eyes!
