Where do they go in Amsterdam?
Missus Stones and I usually like to wander around old cemetries
but we can't seem to recall any in the centre of town.
Does this explain the zombie like service many people complain about
in the city?

do you see dead people?
There is a old and large cemetery that a friend of mine is buried in just a little south and east of the RAI.

Enjoy

page.
The graveyards are not very central. There's Catholic cemetry Buitenveldert (the area was named after it, not the other way around), there's Zorgvlied, which is a big one, but most are just outside the city in the province.
There's an old Jewish Cemetary on teh way to Haarlem. I'm not sure if one can stroll the grounds. But I have been to a cemetary with Bear and MHD but I can't remember where exactly that was but it was very nice.
there's a cemetery by this kerk, no idea where we were, somewhere more-so in the country, in a Piney area

hedge-row's, with some older stones ................

Thanks for replies, Mrs Stones is grateful but a little dissapointed that
there are none in Cenrum.
We will however make another attempt at meeting a long dead former Provost of my city who I believe currently resides in the english church(which is Church of Scotland he he he!)

I never seen any cemetery funny enough,I live right next to 1 as it happens.
Presumably it's tricky to bury people in thin mud.

I think you'll find it's 'Scotchland'. You know how touchy the sweaties get when you get things like that wrong.

Nieuwekerk

Where youll also find all of the dead people of the royal family
All most all of the old churches in the Centrum and beyond have large cemeteries around them. The head stones were moved to make way for building projects, parks, etc. Because the city is so old it is common to find bodies all over the place. It was also a common practice to stack bodies. In many places you don't have to dig for more then a half meter to start uncovering bones. There was a great TV special just the other night about this very subject. Amsterdam is littered with old unmarked graveyards that have never been moved. Even some of the outdoor patios you sit at are on top of old graveyards.

I have visited several current cemeteries and would be happy to guide you to a couple if we do some pre-planning.

No he's also in the Nieuwe Kerk, with the rest of the royal family. The grave of Johannes Vermeer that was mentioned here before is actually in the Oude Kerk.
I am very confused here. I took that photo in the

Peace

Sorry mate you have your kerks (or your graves confused)

All the House of Orange lot are in the Nieuwekerk which is the one on the square at the opposite end to the town hall. Vermeer is in the Oudekerk which is two block behind / off the central square.
Peace

Its the other way around. The Nieuwe Kerk is a Dutch reformed church, and thats also the denomination of the royal family. The Oude Kerk is the oldest church in Delft, and catholic, the royal family would never be burried there. Vermeer is though. I was sure about the royal family, but unsure about the grave of Vermeer (i saw it 5 years ago, so i didnt remember exactly), so i looked it up.

William I isnt the William of Orange who's grave he took a picture of though. There's about a million of them, but the grave is from the first William and William I came much later and was the first king around here.
OK, I think I have it sorted out now. The . This is where William of Orange is buried and where I took that photo of his monument.

The wherin are the remains of Vermeer is just off the main square to the right as you are facing the Nieuwekerk with the Town Hall behind you.

Sorry for my confusion, I had the churches correct, just had the names wrong. I love Delft!

Peace

By the way, explore that linked site a bit...if you are into churches it is awesome!

the post office are giving euro 125.87 for a 100 quid , the best i can find is travelex who do the airports they are 128.51 for a 100 quid , ffs last time i was in amsterdam it was over 1.40

whats happened ?
This is bad news. I'm due to head on the 29th of this month for a couple of days and the exchange rate doesn't look so good. However, I understand from reading contributions on the ACD website that Marks & Spencers give good rates, and like the Post Office, they're commission free as well.
marks and spencers are 127.10
Last week I was thinking about booking a weekend in Amsterdam in February then I noticed the pound to euro exchange rate. The pound reached it's a lowest ever rate of 1.25 euro last week. Compared to the usual rate of about 1.40 euro that's 12 pounds lower in every 100. It's a bad time for Britons visiting anywhere in the euro zone at the moment. I'm going to put off booking anything for a few weeks as it looks like the pound is very gradually rallying. I wouldn't expect the exchange to get back up to 1.40 for a few months though.
Well...it's a good time to vacation in America....(-:
this is terrible news,I am going feb 23rd

Hope it's a little better by then!
it's bad until you smoke your first joint and the munchies hit you and the MR.FEBO will take all your worries away and those free papers make enough for the exchange rate, or maybe you are buying something realy expensive (house, boat, etc...).
Gooo man life it's fucking too short to worry about 7 or 8 pounds if it's too regret regret over the hot beer or something else.
GO AND HAVE A BLAST.(SORRY ABOUT THE caps lock)
The pound is getting owned thats whats happening.

Man-ken-piss in the best i think.
You like to watch a young boy urinating?
I booked a KLM fight yesterday & it was more expensive than it was in november,They are a couple of factors there! ie high oil prices & the euro beating the s**t out of the pound.
The pound to euro rate has shot up this morning, a lot faster than I thought it would. 1.32 euro to the pound now. It could be back to 1.40 to the pound by the end of the week at this rate. I thought it would take a couple of months not a couple of weeks.
just checked travelex this morning they are 128.51 post office are 125.27 , travelex are guaranteed not to be beaten .

where did you get 132 from
I use the google currency convertor and also www.xe.com and this site: http://www.exchangerate.com/200plus_calculator.html?amount_from=1&calc_long_from_id=238&calc_long_to_id=266&Submit=Convert
All thre have a rate of approx 1.32 euro to 1 pound.

I never said it was. That is the currency exchange rate though. Tourist exchange rates are always a couple of hundreths below that, that's a given. That is still a big jump from yesterday. I've found the best place to change money is in the larger branches of M&S. They don't charge commission on cash exchanges but they do charge if you buy currency on credit or debit cards.
marks and spencers are 127.10 slightly better than the post office but not as good at guaranteed travelex.

Maybe M&S is the safe option. Don't know too much about travelex myself.
We find using our debit cards and just get the E's when we are there to be as good as anywhere, just make sure your bank know and draw as much out in a single transaction as possible.
I've used travelex a couple of times with no problems. Just order a couple of days in advance and pick up from your local airport as your leaving.
travelex are up to 130.09 today ,

they are at most airports
Marks and Sparks was 1.29 for the quid this mornin
the bbc teletext says 134.50 but that means nothing anyway , yes marks and spencers are 129.10 now

its on its way up
up again today , now its 130.31 at travelex
I like the frites & mayo! + not to be bothered by goblins,Thats it.

Are you sure you're not confusing 'GCSE' with 'degree'? They sound a bit the same.

Certainly, I can't seem to find 'degree in looking after disabled people' on the UCAS website. You see, jJust turning up at the clinic to collect your methadone scrip doesn't usually confer academic qualifications.

It's unfortunate that you didn't inherit the literary skills of your family. Mind you, if they measured their output by weight, rather than quality, perhaps you did.

Pretty much decided that, for a change, I'll go with Marks & Spencers. Not sure if I can be bothered with giving out such personal details online anymore. Leaving next Tuesday morning for a couple of days, I've decided that I'll exchange them the day before.

No but I met Mr and Mrs Bates or should I say the King and Queen.

It was 25 - 30 years ago and their son was just a boy - labelled Prince of Sealand but everyone took great delight in referring to the lad as Master Bates.....

Also, bear in mind that UK ATM users are limited to one withdrawal a day in the Netherlands, and that a weekend counts as one day, as does a leading or trailing Bank Holiday.
