Is this salvia? Hi,
I go to Amsterdam a couple of times a year, and love the weed there.
I've not smoked any for a few months and bought some Magic Gold 'Herbal Insence'.
I had a very small bit in a pipe and I have to say it took me completely by surprise; I was so stoned!
Apparently it has some kind of synthesised THC in it.
Overall it was similar to a decent weed high, but NOT quite the same. I cant quite put my finger on it, but I think maybe the high 'feels' synthetic?
Anyone have a similar experience?
PS I cant believe this stuff is 100% legal, and buyable on the internet and in shops! - incredible Magic Gold, which claims to contain Pukatea, NZ Liverwort, Damiana, Leonotis, Blue lotus extract, Verbascum thapsus, Red clover, Vanilla, and Honey.
http://www.erowid.org/experiences/exp.php?ID=79488 It's not salvia. The synthetic cannaboid is called jwh-18 (I think) and can be bought far more cheaply as a raw ingredient than in mixes. It's soon to be banned in the UK. it sure looked like her in the background sitting down. Yep, at the table in the background. BlueBerry herself.
Enjoy
FlyByNite I was really cool to run into you too....hearing your guys call my name was better than being Norm at Cheers! great vid...as always...keep on, keeping on... When I watched the vid I kept getting google pop up ads for a Marijuana Detox Center in Malibu. Pistachio milkshake! Now that's what I'm talkin about.
And yes there is a very special tourist featured out front.
Chili Big D and Ganjatours.net go to CoffeeShop La Tertulia. A good example of a typical Amsterdam CoffeeShop.

Nice! takes me back...sitting in front smoking a spliff, enjoying a pistachio milkshake
Another time, sitting at a table in the loft with a couple of mates and serendipitously running into Trekenhil....good place.
Thanks and peace
Love the place, especially in the summer months... interesting tourist featured out front in this clip, isn't she? :) Big D and Ganjatours.net go to CoffeeShop La Tertulia. A good example of a typical Amsterdam CoffeeShop.

Chili Thanks Chris.. Always nice to hear from you.

Chili Americans get really fucked by their mobile phone companies.
In ireland, and im assuming holland, they literally throw the fucking phones at you. You can probably get free sim cards in holland, as in ireland, and just put it into your American phone. THen just 'pay as you go'. Get 5, 10, 20 euro 'top ups'. xm sirius will work wi fi....i used it last year on the puter,,werked fine GPS will work. It could get pricey if you try to use it outside of Wifi spots.
The 20MB plan would serve as a buffer from having a huge bill.
When you are in the Netherlands your phone will most likely pick up Orange or KPN networks. You will just need to add international service to your phone. Not an international plan but enable the ability for your phone to work overseas. thinking about it... wouldn't I be able to just buy a month of service from AT&T when I get to Holland? it should cost like $150ish or so for unlimited service if it is the same as it is here in the USA (california)
I would probably get a new phone # but whatever
or would that not work for some reason? or is it just more simple to do the other way?
Well, you might not find AT&T, as it's an American company, and I don't think they have an explicit network presence in the Netherlands, but I could be wrong. iPhone's are network locked too, so plugging in a SIM card from another provider will not work. You can try getting AT&T to unlock your phone (they'll probably refuse) or search the internet for instructions on jailbreaking your iphone, which will allow you to use any providers SIM card in it. Try just getting by using the Wi-Fi on the iphone if you don't want to pay extra.
Have you looked into getting a tethering plan for the iphone whilst in Holland?
Otherwise depending on the amount of data you're going to move AT&T offers this option.

Try looking at the following link for specifics on terms and conditions. since pandora doesnt work, will XM/Sirius work? will GPS work? Basically any app that uses data to work will be deducted from your MB's. Pandora and Youtube will eat into your usage pretty quickly. You could end up roaming and having to pay per MB at the same time b/c you are not on the ATT network. Remember ATT is an American company but you could buy a prepaid sim card and get everything you are looking for. I used my phone during the Cannabis Cup last November and came home to a bill for around $400! I would suggest using the data only when you can secure a connection to an open wifi connection.
Hopes this helps,
Balou
PS-Pandora doesn't work outside the US, something with licensing.
AWESOME THANKS FOR THE HELP!
got one major question
did you have a MB plan (and what was it if you did) when you spent $400 internationally or was that just using your phone with no international plan from At&T? about how much did you use your phone to build up a $400 bill?
thanks again! AWESOME! thanks for the advice
I appreciate it and I will be doing my first tests soon! thanx Everything sounds good, BUT...
i must admit... I never have done this free wi-fi on the iPhone before
Well, my phone alerts me anytime a wi-fi connection is available.
If you are planning on just relying on the wireless connection and not getting an international data plan I'd suggest just taking your Ipod Touch, if you have one. I can obviously surf the net via the ipod but I have a "skype" app. which allows me to make a receive phone calls.
Just give the network a click and you're off.
I've been going to Amsterdam for years and I've never had many problems finding wi-fi for my MacBook Pro or my Powerbook.
You shouldn't have to do much walking around as many places advertise that they have wireless available. Don't expect to just pick up random signals and hop from provider to provider while in transit. That about it, have fun! funny stuff Mr. Banks thanks for the advice
so i just wanna go over everything I have learned
Wi-fi works for free just like on a macbook when there is a free signal found, and various businesses in Amsterdam have free wi-fi (list provided). People can use it if they are customers or near by enough to get the signal, for other times a person can use a MB plan provided by AT&T and this will allow you up to use up as many MB as you have on your plan (20 to 200) before the roaming charges etc apply... but you have no way of keeping track of any of the useage or when the charges begin and the MB plan ends etc.
is that basically everything I need to know? Bring your camera and forget the rest...
What else do you need in heaven? I went to eBay and bought a cheap Palm TX, it has a great litter browser and you can surf the net from any hot-spot. It also has a little indicator to tell you if there is service. There are hundreds of hot-spots in Amsterdam. My advice would be to forget about all of it and just enjoy the city. AND I understand from the post above that if I were to get a plan, 20MB all the way to 200MB, I would be able to use my phone pretty much like I do at home until I use up all the MB on my plan. THEN the roaming and other charges apply on a per use basis etc. THANKS FOR SPLAININ!
Right. The tricky part is you'll have no idea when you are into an "overage" or exceeded your 20-200MB. Free wi-fi

Lost in Amsterdam sweet! seems like all of you seem to think I will be able to use the iPhone with wi-fi rather easy and cheaply (and seems like you think its the best phone for what I am doing)

I know there is a setting to use just wi-fi but how does it work from there? and how much of Amsterdam has free wi-fi cause my Mac only got free signals at a couple places... will I be walking around looking for a signal looking like a mighty douchebag? and will the functions be in dutch? I am really interested in all the details so I know exactly what to expect

I looked on AT&T but I was confused!
I posted all the info from AT&T at the bottom of the post
can someone explain how the iphone international calling plans work?
(or if there is a BETTER phone/provider I should use please explain how they work and WHY they are better for international A/V)
voice is simple enough, dont need any help there but the data plans range from $25 to $200 and then they say OTHER CHARGES MAY APPLY... anyone ever do this stuff? can someone explain it to me?
I wanna be able to search the internet, use apps like pandora/youtube/twitter/etc, and use GPS etc I think you get the idea... pretty much everything the phone can do with data A/V
but I also wanna know how much I am gonna need to spend????
is it worth it to spend the extra money on a larger MB plan or are the other charges so much that it makes it not worth it
here is the statement that worries me the most
International data roaming can get expensive quickly.
For example, opening an email with a 5 megapixel picture in it, or downloading a 3-minute video on YouTube, each takes about 2 MB of data. The cost would be almost $40, based on pay-per-use international data rates of $0.0195/KB.
whoa... I am CONFUSED!
does the international roaming charges apply IN ADDITION to the cost of the plan? or does having one of those MB plans save you the roaming charges... and if so how much will it cost to use the phone for this SAME function with a plan? would it just be charged for the MB used and nothing extra other than paying for the plan OR do you need a plan but will STILL pay roaming charges or something like that...
this COULD be really really expensive
anybody got any examples of how much they pay to use their data functions on their smartphone/pda/iPhone internationally?
ok so here is what I found from AT&T
There are four packages available:
* $24.99/month: 20 MB Data Global Add-On gives you 20 MB of usage within over 90 countries
* $59.99/month: 50 MB Data Global Add-On gives you 50 MB of usage within over 90 countries

* $199.99/month: 200 MB Data Global Add-On gives you 200 MB of usage within over 90 countries
Rate outside the over 90 countries is $0.010/KB except in Algeria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia/Herzegovina, Brunei, Faroe Islands, Kuwait, Macedonia (former Yugoslavia), Maldives, Mongolia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Turkey, and Venezuela where the rate is $0.0195/KB.
Other restrictions and terms and conditions apply for data.
While using data on iPhone is unlimited within the U.S., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, international data roaming can get expensive quickly as international roaming rates apply. Voice and data usage, including data usage incurred from delivery of Visual Voicemail messages, will be charged at international rates. For a complete list of countries visit att.com/dataconnectglobal and rates visit att.com/worldpackages. AT&T offers these iPhone International traveling tips to help you keep control of data usage.
Please Note:
1 MB = 1024KB
$0.0195/KB = about $20/MB
$0.010/KB = about $10/MB
$0.005/KB = about $5/MB"
You can travel the world with your iPhone
AT&T knows that the mobile Internet on your iPhone++ is indispensable to you. That's why we want to remind you that international data usage is not covered under your existing U.S. data plan. Any voice or data usage outside the domestic coverage area is considered as an International Roaming charge.
International roaming and data usage is not covered under your existing data plan.
With iPhone's many Internet-based applications, it's natural for users to use more data on their iPhone than they would using other handsets or PDA devices.
International data roaming can get expensive quickly.
For example, opening an email with a 5 megapixel picture in it, or downloading a 3-minute video on YouTube, each takes about 2 MB of data. The cost would be almost $40, based on pay-per-use international data rates of $0.0195/KB.
Why does iPhone use more data than other devices?
* Full HTML email: All data associated with emails are downloaded to iPhone, including full attachments and associated graphics
* Automatic check for email: Customers who set their device to automatically check for email in 15-, 30-, or 60-minute intervals are incurring international data charges, even if no email is downloaded.
* Enhanced Internet experience: The Safari browser supports full HTML browsing for a more enhanced experience, which uses significantly more data than a WAP browser on a standard handset or PDA.
* Feature-rich applications: iPhone applications like Google Maps, YouTube, and others, depending on frequency of usage, can use a large amount of data Everything sounds good, BUT...
i must admit... I never have done this free wi-fi on the iPhone before
Live a little... try it at home...
Turn off International Roaming...
Try harder this time...
