I too was sick over in Amsterdam but only chest cold signs - when we came home the wife caught some kind of flu (nothing like yours - no hospitalization required) but something is passing 'round the greater Boston area like wildfire (and it's no fun).
Could be the H1 for all I know - different levels maybe effecting people differently?

Everybody should have a flu jab. I was talking to a GP who said they were a waste of time. I'm convinced that I've had the flu several times but in a very attenuated form thanks to the flu jab, you just feel a bit weak for a few days, no other symptoms. You can get a flu jab at Boots for £12.99 The Bejing flu back in 1991 was horrible, gastric flu is the worst.
I spent 2 days in the hospital last week with the 'normal' flu. I thought I was going to fucking die. I sadly missed up with some plans with a Channels member.
Anyway, those visiting please take the needed precautions. I would not wish this flu on my worst enemy.
Well I guess you could think that was good advice BUT
What about the folks who are allergic to it (the jab) and dont know it, until its too late.
You do realise some people shouldnt be given this jab cos of allergies, and proper medical advice needs to be sought before one gets it.
Those jabs from Boots I would say are for folks who have had it before without no reactions, not for first timers, and even then one is still at risk.
Giving out unqualified medical advice is dangerous, stick to your day job, no nastiness intended, just pointing out the obvious ...

Having known one person who had to have a heart transplant as a result of the Bejing flu and who btw did not survive it and having been terribly sick myself with the same virus, I thought it prudent to give people the benefit of my experience. My experience is not definitive, it is of course relative.
At no point was I pretending to give out medical advice, just talking about my own life. What you said was just plain RUDE!

I didnt intent it to be rude, I intended it to make people realise that its possible without the right advice to have a reaction. People dont seem to realise this and Im not talking about feeling unwell for 24 hours or so - you clearly havent had one - it can be very nasty!
Had mine last week - no reaction, not even a sore arm. Having the swine flu one on Thursday.
Juliet, allergic reactions to flu jabs are very rare (usually people who are allergic to egg products - and there are plenty of warnings for them). Jabs are usually done at surgeries were there'll be someone who will be able to deal with anaphylactic shock, which would happen immediately.
My info is more historical record than an update review however, I spent a couple very gezellig evenings in 'coffeeshop relax' on Binnen Oranjestraat.
I was made to feel like a local and even got pulled into a neighbourhood dispute late one sticky summer night.
I was sitting there 6 or 7 years back, when a local couple in their forties come bursting in, when the dude begins telling this story loudly, sometimes smacking his hand down on the bar hard. He goes on about how this German lady is parked illegally in his spot and how she was calling the cops on him because he wouldn't move his car which he parked to block her in from leaving. All the while I'm sitting there fly on the wall style soaking it in.
So we wait for the polite.
Turns out the Dutch guy feared the cops because he and his wife were both loaded and wouldn't be able to legally move their car if the cops came.
All of a sudden the dude turns to me and asks if I could move his car when the cops came, I said hell yes and we waited some more.
Long story longer, before the polite show up, the Dutchie decides to swallow his stubbornness and move his car thus allowing the offending German frauline to move her car mit many curses. Soon all settled back to quiet on the humid little corner of Binnen Oranjestraat.

Outstanding sandwich shop across the street from Relax,well worth the wait. A great dutch pub with good food a block down on same side of street, about the middle of the block, think it's toward Haarlemerstraat.

Consider yourself counted! Incidentally, there a really good vegetarian restaurant, a couple of blocks south of you called the Flying Saucer restaurant. Though it's actually called the flying dish apparently, as I was told the dutch have no word for saucer.

Yeah, I can imagine the menu plummets outside the centrum. Hopefully, by that time we can buy some of theirs and toke whatever's good. It would be mostly the atmosphere of the place wouldn't it?
I looked up that address and wondered if the 201 is closer or further away from the end closest to CS? Last year i tried to rent a room, that was a spectacular deal, but turned out it was from a less than reputable company out of NY doing sublets. You had to be a member for ten bucks (got my money back) but it was supposedly on Van Hallstraat in the 1000 block, but don't remember the exact address, which didn't exist. However, i saw that one coming, when they told me before i joined that 'the landlord a Christy Christiani' (I can remember the name) was left a message on her machine. Then i join and call to find the number disconnected....
Now you know why i'm trying to cover my bases matty;-) and i imagine those 5 g. deals are all over town.
