thanks, I have booked my flight and made hotel reservation. and thanks for the web-links!
Hello! I'm thinking of visiting amsterdam this coming weekend for about 3 or 4 days. I'm a male, I'm 34 and hetero. I need to forget something bad that happened to me that's banging my head!! I'm sure I'll be busy visiting the city during the day but I'm a bit worried on how to spend my evenings. I don't want to end up brooding in Amsterdam if you know what I mean :)). I'm not a smoking guy but I like to sit in places and enjoy drinks. I love live music pop/rock, dj-sets. I wonder if it's easy to meet people and have a good time....Any suggestions?
I always go alone every year and have great evenings.
Early evening people watching at the Hoppe (right hand one) on the Spui, then a pile of roasted meat at the Cafe de Klos in Kerkstraat then get yourself to the Gollem in Raamsteeg.
It will be packed, the best European beers are on sale (200+ to choose from) and its impossible to be in there for longer than 30 minutes without getting into conversation
Ask for 'Surreal' the barman if he's on duty otherwise whoever is behind the bar will recommend different ales although they may be too busy to chat in the evenings (I spend many quiet afternoons there too!)
Cant help you on the music front tho'
I'm a middle aged (no, let's be truthful:old lady) lady who also goes alone most years. And I don't smoke either. But this city has much nightlife to offer.
You can sit in a that takes your fancy.
And it's always pleasant to stroll around the canals at night (weather permitting) and peep through the windows of some lovely canal side homes.
I never have a problem filling either the days or the evenings and I hope you don't either!
Have a great trip
