off topic-growing question

picked up a book last trip and am curious, has anyone had
success with grow tube flourescents vs. mh or hps? the book says
for the novice that flourescents work fine.just want to put up
a four footer in a closet.thanks

Before metal halide (MH) or high pressure sodium (HPS) fixtures became available (1980's), the luminairs of choice for growers were florescent tube lights, specifically VHO fixtures, or Very High Output. The VHO lamps will work, but these days it is almost a no brainer to use HPS fixtures. They produce a *lot* more light than florescent lamps.Plant growth is highly responsive to the amount of light, and HPS and MH far exceed VHO, and give you more light output for each watt of power you burn (efficiency). To avoid disappointment, use HPS is your closet; consider a couple of 150 watt fixtures. And think about how you will eliminate the heat buildup from the lights, as well as plant odors, so you won't bother your neighbors. ;-)A good place to start is the cannabis growing web site at:http://www.cannabinoid.com/boards/You can get a lot of your technical questions answered there, if you can put up with frequent puberty level flaming. The more light you have, the more your plants will like you, and you will have the satisfaction of being independent with extremly high quality herb. The gods will be pleased.:-)
