quiet, comfortable, great location
stayed at the toren 4 nights in sept. 2001. at that time, at least, the young staff were very pleasant and accomodating. our room faced the canal and yet was quite quiet--it's a very nice street. tram stop that takes you everywhere is a 2-3 min. walk. the pleasant singel, a block away, has lots of little cafes and shops as well as the anne frank huis. the up-and-coming jordaan district is just beyond. dam square and the central station are a 10-15 minute walk. the room was small by us standards but not uncomfortable for two and, from what i've read, not small by a'dam standards. breakfast was fine for us, and in a much more pleasant surrounding than a lot of breakfast rooms.

excellent, friendly staff, clean rooms. very welcoming
i have stayed in the toren several times. i have not found that the service has gone downhill. the rooms are very clean. the staff are amazingly friendly nothing is a problem. the breakfast buffet may not be quite what english people are used to but in the surroundings of such a beautiful room it is an amazing way to start any day. i would recommend it wholeheartedly to everyone.

a-holes, lies & bedspread stains
forget this place. it's a rip-off. they are dishonest (a growing trend in holland) and rude, especially to non-english speakers. overheard the manager absolutely berate an italian man who had overslept past check-out time. (the poor man wanted a new room because the stupid hotel staff stuck him in a room that had just been painted!). oh, i forgot one more thing: stains, stains, stains. dutch hotels seem to love their stains, especially ones left over by wayward tourists. beware!

for an amsterdam hotel, not bad. i'm sick of the tiny rooms in a'dam though, and this hotel is no exception. be careful with the pay-per-view, as you can just channelsurf over the porn by accident (luckily i didn't get charged for 3 secs of porn). i was pretty satisfied with the service. the walls are pretty thin and you can hear everyone come and go, but i guess that's pretty normal. i'm rating this as 3 because it has been too highly rated.. it probably deserves 4 stars, but isn't worth any more than that. look around at other hotels before deciding on toren. they're all overpriced imho, but what are you gonna do.

nice place, but are they slipping?
i stayed here again in august 02 for a week. enjoyed my stay and had little interacion with the staff, since i did not eat breakfast there. very convenient location. friendly staff. i especially like the fact that they complete the daily room cleaning early. for me, that means i can return to the hotel for an afternoon catnap as early as noon and not interfere with housekeeping. not sure how they rate as a 4 star hotel.... more like a 3 star to me. i did have only 2 issues during my stay. had to ask for toilet paper, the housekeeper apparantly forgot to refill this essential item. and another day they took away the used hand wash clothes, but never replaced them. nothing and nobody is perfect, though. i'd stay there again.

i stayed 5 nights recently and found that the location was quiet and accessible to most parts of town. the single room was clean ,bathroom was adequate and i stayed at the annex which made it even quieter. for the price(about 70e,winter rate )it will do the trick. would stay again if possible.

a good quiet canal hotel
i have stayed there twice and just returned from a recent visit there. both visits were excellent. the rooms were as billed on the web page. the place was clean and cared for. the hotel staff i found friendly and accomodating. did not utilize the optional breakfast. i found the location very central to amsterdam. the quiet canal location can't be beat. this was the first time i utilized hotel bookings through the channels website, and all went perfect. i would stay there again without hesitation.

friendly & quiet home away from home
been to ams many times, toren picked for its quiet location on the outskirts of the city center. great location for transportation, walking to any part of town, and quiet nights sleeping to the church bells of the westerkerk. very small room, but the comfort of the quiet nights, friendly staff, intimate bar, and house dog milo made the 2 weeks of winter we spent in the snow covered canals of amsterdam a highlight of our lives. do yourself a favor, come to amsterdam and enjoy heaven on earth.

elegant and good value
i had a large, elegant single, at a good price. the location is great, close enough to all the action but away from the sleeze.

i stayed here in june of 2001. i booked the room 5 months in advance and was very pleased. i traveled with another couple and we got two great rooms with a garden in between. staff was great and very friendly. never made it to the breakfast area or the bar but everything else was awesome. location was also wonderful very close to trams at raadhuistraat and close to the grey area.

good for a step up
I stepped up for a bit of a 'splurge' for my last 4 days in A'dam in October. (The first 3 nights, I stayed at the Prinsenhof Hotel prior to this, at about half the cost). In many ways the Toren was worth the extra bucks, but I suppose only if you feel like treating yourself or are with a 'fussy date.' A lot of 'extra amenities' that seemed unnecessary to me to warrant the added cost. The plus side - a very good location just on the edge of the Jordaan, the rooms are very spacious (ceilings very high), and the bathroom was a luxury - even had a huge tub with a phone next to it. The in-room TV I found to be a bit unnecessary, but I suppose some folks demand one. Minus side - they actually charged extra for movies, etc., and the only useful channels were BBC and CNN (*snore*). The rest of the channels were Dutch and were every bit as boring as American network garbage. In addition, the hotel even charges you 3 nlg for use of the coffee machine in the room! wtf? Breakfast not included (extra 19 nlg.) However.... I have to give it more plusses than minuses - rooms are nicely furnished and *do* have a small fridge (mini-bar) for storing snackies, cheeses, and cold drinks. Had a room in the Annex on the canal side and it wasn't too noisy assuming you're used to normal city noises. Some excellent cafes are close by - the Twee Prinsen around the corner was my favorite nightly stop for a nightcap, with nice help, a cozy, relaxed atmosphere, *and* a heater on the outside tables facing the canal for the chillier evenings. The Toren is a step up from most other hotels for those who demand a bit more.

Outstanding, friendly service. Top notch in all respects.
My family stayed there 3 nights recently. Throughout the whole stay we felt as though we were in our own home, not at a hotel. It was a warm and friendly atmosphere. We were very close to Dam square, tram stops, canal boat stop, and very good restaurants and coffee shops. If I can ever get back to Amsterdam, I know where I'll be staying.
