    a very small room

Excuse my english, i'm french. We had a very small room, a very small bed, and no alcohol in the minibar. The clerk looks like a gangster, especially for the price. The unique positive point was a pretty nice girl that was at the office while our last day in amsterdam. Try to avoid this place, it's too expensive and not comfortable at all. They rent us a double room with just a small little bed.

    forget it

the review by slvrwolf smacks of commercialism (methinks it may be the manager trying to hype the hotel). don't bother with this place. other than its location it has nothing great to offer. look elsewhere.

very dangerous stairs surprised it passed the fire and safety regulations.

the room itself was comfortable but the stairs were very dangerous. we had to climb four flights of stairs they were all steep except the third which were like a ladder and the foothold was half the width of your foot. (very dangerous indeed). a lot of noise from the pubs until 4a.m. and the pigeons joined in as well. good job we took cotton wool buds to put in our ears. the kettle was disgusting we could not use it. also our flight back was 21.35hrs and we had to be out of the room at 11.00hrs this was disgraceful considering the amount we paid and no where to leave your luggage. we recommend the near by italian resturant and also try the falafel dish it is delicious. the three sisters pub on rembrandplein is good staff very friendly. if we visit again we would stay somewhere different if there was a fire you would not have a chance getting out without breaking something getting down the stairs.

    noisy and a little suspicious

i would've give the hotel two stars if it weren't for three things; 1) they don't tell you up front on the phone that you have to pay in advance when you get there (the only hotel i stayed at in europe where this was the case), 2) the clerk tried to 'forget' to give us our credit card back, 3) the 'double' bed was two uncomfortable singles pushed together, which sucked, as it was our honeymoon. otherwise, it was a fairly clean, comfortable and affordable room. extreme noise from the outside till the wee hours of the morning, though the location is very convienent. overall, i think next time i will stay in a quieter part of the city.

    just alright

some other reviews say hotel atlanta is good value for the location, but with euro transparency, iæd disagree. a weekend stay in paris (very centre) in a three star hotel was a little more expensive and a lot more comfortable. the location was good, but the hotel was very disappointing. the original hotel we booked with made a mistake with the booking and couldnæt provide us a double room. so they recommended the atlanta, at this stage we didnæt have a lot of choice, so we took it. when we got there they didnæt have a double room for us, but a triple room. the receptionist made such a compliment out of how were getting such a big room for two-thirds the price, that wasnæt exactly our fault. while the triple room was spacious, sticking two single beds together in an effort to make a double bed didnæt exactly work out. so much for the romantic weekend!! one thing i was glad of was that the cranky receptionist that checked us in wasnæt there for the rest of our stay.

good location and near taxi rank for ease of travel to airport.

we stayed in atlanta hotel last easter for 1 week. the noise that we experienced was not party/music noise but the noise of the swinging fire doors just outside our room door. if you stay ask for a room away from the reception. from very early the doors were swishing open and closed and after several requests to the hotel staff they finally answered our request to wedge one of the doors open between 6:00am and 10:00am on our final night at the hotel. we didn't make breakfast any day but the hotel is well situated for eating in many cafes/restaurants in the square. i would recommend the three sisters bar/restaurant across the square. staff were friendly enough and the rooms were clean. fridge/mini bar were well stocked and the rooms had mtv. i am booking again for this year for a few nights during my longer stay in the netherlands and will be requesting a room on the upper floor rather than the reception floor and to the front of the hotel for a view over the square. my overall opinion is that it is good value and friendly, location is great and smokeys cafe is very good and the friendliest staff of the cafes that we visited. the doorstaff and barstaff were all friendly. the hotel is central but out of the more run down areas. rembrantplein is a lovely part of amsterdam close to all areas.

first off, i agree with the other poster that the guy who works the front desk is no good...though i wouldn't go so far as to say he is a cheat. after my long red eye flight i checked in only to hear that i must pay for my entire 7 night stay in advance! this is a policy i never put up with, but rooms were tight that week, so i just did it and hoped for the best. if these people were good business people, the proper thing to do would be to let potential guests know about the pay-in-advance policy in advance! so to sum up, watch out for sam who works the front desk. my room was very small but do-able. the window kept opening up in the middle of the night, which would allow a cold draft to get into the room. breakfast was pretty bad, but maybe this is the way it is at other hotels as well? they had hard boiled eggs and some cold cuts, as well as some bread (read: not toast), and some coffee. as others have pointed out, the hotel is in a great location. but then again, so are other hotels. all in all, this place was sufficient for my first time to the dam but i would not stay here again. there must be better hotels in the same price range. if not, spend a litte more - after all, you are on vacation right?

    cheap but dirty

love amsterdam, but not this hotel. the only positive thing i can say about this place: great location for the money if don't mind noise. other than that, it's pretty run down. bed spread and sheets had stains and the damn blanket hadn't been washed in months. they only changed the sheets twice during our 7-day stay! also, mid-eastern guy who runs the place is a cheat! he made us pay cash upfront for 7 days, although the hotel won't tell you that until you get there. so we were trapped. if you're young and broke, stay here, but try to avoid this place. try the nadia or di-ann hotels near dam square. if you do stay here, smokey's is great a coffeeshop with really nice staff and a very stoned tabby.

    get a deluxe room!!!!!!

my room was very small, and i had no water pressure in the shower. the stairs were so steep i'm surprised i didn't fall down. the breakfast they serve was bread and meat - not much of a breakfast. my room looked out over a rooftop - no view whatsoever. and it was very noisy - the hotel is located in a very tourist-friendly area (lots of bars and restaurants). if i come back, i will be sure to rent a deluxe room. it's worth the extra money! and ask for a better view.

    good for the money

Can't beat the location, right on the rembrant was clean, had steep steps(no lift)but was as advertised, nothing more, nothing less.guy on front desk during the week was helpful and they wouldnt forget if they told you something that they would do for you.if you have more money you might want to stay at a nicer place but it was ok for a few days.

good value for money - nice staff!

13/08/01 stayed for 7 nights at the beginning of august, 2 singles with private bath and 2 deluxe doubles. the hotel in general is a bit worn down, but reasonably clean. pleasant, bright breakfast room. breakfast was white or brown bread, hard boiled eggs, 2 kinds of cold cuts, 2 kinds of cheese slices and coffee or tea. no juice. 7-10 am. if you are a very light sleeper, this hotel is not for you, unless you can get a room at the back or use earplugs. the rooms facing the square get a lot of noise from the cafes, clubs and general foot traffic that goes on all night on the rembrandtsplein. and if there is a soccer game, there will be very loud group singing both day and night. that said, the location is super, with several tram lines, and within walking distance of almost everything. the easy everthing internet cafe with 600 (!) terminals is just around the corner, open 24/7. room 27 (nlg 146)was a small single with private shower, sink and toilet in the bathroom. the bed was a double. this is up on the third floor, (very steep staircase) with windows looking out on the tiled roofs of amsterdam. it was the quietest. no reading light, just the ceiling light. room 2 (nlg 146) on the first floor (which is actually one floor up, above ground level)was a slightly nicer single with private toilet, sink and tub/shower, double bed. the noisiest room right above restaurants. someone came banging on the door at 2 am the first night. room 15 on the second floor at the back was a deluxe double (nlg 200)with large private bath. whirlpool tub with telephone type shower that was not mounted on the wall. the twin beds pushed together to make a double were narrow, approx 28' wide. this room was fairly quiet. room 9 (nlg 258), another deluxe double was the nicest, with 2 single beds (still narrow, about 30')the bath had a whirlpool/shower/sauna combination with a plexi enclosure. all sinks were tiny and wall mounted, and for some reason had glass shelves projecting out above them at least half the sink width, making tooth brushing, etc. a challenge! toilet paper of the newsprint texture variety. all rooms had mini-bars, but the only one that actually made the drinks cold was the one in 9. items in mini bars all 3 nlg. good selection of pop, chocolate bars, chips, bottled water. all rooms had tv mounted on the wall with remote. rooms were cleaned daily, fresh towels and beds done. the electricity is a bit rickety, and power went off once or twice in various rooms as people plugged in things they shouldn't and blew fuses. for two mornings in a row there was no hot water. the first morning we were told the maintenance man was probably on a drunk after the soccer game (!) and the next morning the boiler was turned off to replace a part. all in all, reasonable value for the money. the staff were pleasant and helpful. i think next time we would look for a quieter spot. we booked (only!)about 2 months ahead, so the hotel selection was somewhat limited in that price range.

    comfortable hotel close to everything

first experience with european travel and found the hotel atlanta a good value. some rooms were not as nice as the others but ask for room number's the best room they have. it is around 250nlg (105eu) and has a tv, desk, table & chairs along with a marble tiled bathroom that consisted of a really nice hydrobath, sauna and shower. toilet even has a bidet for you blokes who like cold water splashed on the bum. other nice touches are a refrigerator and locking safe with a small armoir. the breakfast in the morning was nothing spectacular but if you're hungry you'll eat it. the staff is friendly and they do change sheets everyday along with a mild cleaning of the room. people like to drink and party in this area, so be prepared for some noise into the wee hours of the morning. red light and coffee shops are not far away so it's a very central location to the 'fun' stuff. i'd stay here again.

    Location, location, location

I have stayed at the Atlanta in 1999 and 2000. The stairs are steep, the pigeons loud, the price great and the location spectacular. Without a doubt one of my favourite places to stay in all of Europe.

    can't wait to return...

Just back from St Patricks weekend in Amsterdam, having stayed at the Atlanta. This is without doubt a fab hotel. We stayed in a twin deluxe room and the view was awesome and there was even a shower/bath that was also a jacuzzi!! It is really difficult to find good accommodation in Amsterdam and I must say that I was well impressed. The room was spacy, the staff were really friendly and the fact that you are so close to everything, makes for a brilliant time- I know what I'll be doing next St Patricks!!

    Very cozy.

I stayed at Hotel Atlanta last May and was very pleased with the accomodations. I had a single room with a private bath and a great view overlooking Rembrandtplein. The room came equipped with a small (stocked-with-goodies) refrigerator and a plug-in coffepot with instant coffee, tea, etc. The hotel is close to absolutely everything and includes complimentary breakfast. Mid-price hotels of this kind are not as commom in Amsterdam as are cheap youth hostels and expensive luxury places. Hotel Atlanta is comfortable and offers the best of both worlds; I can't wait to return...

I loved it!!! I had a single room with private bathroom. It was very clean and the bed was SO comfortable!!! After touring all day, it was a pleasure going back to my room for a shower a good night's sleep. The hotel is central to everything, and the small fridge in the room let me keep some supplies.

    oh no!!!!

please allow me to book to go elsewhere in the future. This hotel had mould, mould and more mould, and that was just in the bed! Talk about condoms, they had all kinds but they were all soiled!! Breakfast was good if you are a pittsberg pig! but no good for human consumption. Stay here at your peril!

    Staff was outstanding.

I was traveling from New York to Asia with my wife and 9 month old boy. The staff at the Atlanta allowed us to use the kitchen to prepare the baby's formula every day. Everyone that worked there was friendly and enjoyed talking.

A friendly, lively, and interesting hotel

The hotel is in the perfect location, close to almost all of the interesting areas of Amsterdam. It's unpretentious, and inexpensive, with small but clean rooms, and a friendly staff. You want to eat, drink, whatever, you can practically jump out the window and land somewhere exciting.

    Location & $$ were ideal

The rooms are nice, clean and kept up everyday. Pretty basic overall, but for the price and that location it was a great deal. Seemed to be a 10-15 minute walk to most parts of the city.

    language Revisão através um visitante
    convenient, but LOUD

Located very conveniently on Rembrandtplein. The rooms are basic, and very clean, some with private bath. All have TV in room. The biggest problem is the noise level; at night music from nearby bars goes on until quite late. If that doesn't bother you, then it's a good deal for the price.
