    Penalised for being a "non-smoker"

Stayed here with my partner in july 2006. First room was a broom-cupboard. Although overlooking the canal, the windows wouldn't open, curtain rail was in the way. When we complained we were told it was our fault for wanting a canal-view and a non-smoking room. Very ignorant. All the nice big rooms in the new tract are smoking.

    a close in gem

this hotel has very nice rooms on a beautiful canal that is close to the jordan and most of the centrum and the staff could not be more helpful. it is the best priced unknown haven in amsterdam.

rembrandt residence hotel: the place to be

the rembrandt residence hotel is a really nice hotel in the centre of amsterdam. we had a very good experience when we stayed here this january. we were welcomed by a sweet younglady at the reception. she answered our (many) questions or looked up the information needed. we had a very nice room at the back of the hotel. the breakfast was basic but good. we really recommend it!

excellent! great rooms! open 24/7! lovely!

i went with my boyfriend in 1999 and back again in 2000. it was great. i loved the rooms and the bathroom...a massive bath with shower, and i could watch the tv if a left the bathroom door open and angled the tv right! spot on room service/could carry this on a little later but hey, the cities more or less 24/7 anyway. i recommend a stay here for sure.

    pure excellence

this hotel made me feel as if i was in the dam for the first time! excellent and courteous, the staff catered to my wife's every need. when she is happy, i am happy. i had left to meet some channelites and the room got cold. my wife went downstairs to ask about the heat and got a response within 5 minutes, with an extra heater! when i returned to hear of this, i was very pleased. the room was large....overlooked the canal.....on the 4th floor with an excellent view of the westerkerk church and people below......price was very fair......breakfast was very, very nice, comparable to some of the bigger hotels....bathroom was cold, but you don't spend all day there...... nice location......geez, what else can i say about this place, but........go there!

    great location

i stayed here over x-mas and new years. it was my second time here. the first time about 8 years ago it was called something else like karina rembrandt i think. well out room was ok. nothing special. i wasnt in the dam to spend time in the room. the poor guy at the bar where i had drank several beers was working his ass off. i mean this poor guy was the bartender, the cook, the room service delivery guy, and the night maid. i had to wait sometimes 30 or 45 minutes to wait for him to refill my beer. and all along there was several lady's in the reception office sitting on thier buts doing nothing. by the way there is a pepsi machine on the 3rd floor that sells beer too. gotta love it.

i would have to say everything was great!

the rembrandt residence hotel was wonderfully priced with all the frills of a hundred dollar a night hotel. great location just walking distance to everything, from the anne frank house, dam square, all museums, just everything. they have an all you can eat breakfast, which i enjoyed very much. i had a very huge room, two double beds and a sofa, it was like being in a studio apt. the room was quiet, & clean. i slept like the angel that i am. it was a wonderful time for me. i was there december 26th 2002 and i'll be back for sure in july or august 2003. thank you rembrandt residence hotel!

i wrote a very positive review about this place when we stayed last year. this year, we had to reject the first room (tiny, with one double bed for two people!). then we got the room we had requested, the one from last year (large, overlooking the canal, with 2 single beds pushed together). unfortunately, the hotel has installed horrendously bright lights illuminating the building's exterior. while it looks lovely from across the canal, it makes it impossible to sleep! even with the heavy curtains drawn, the light seeped thru. also, the deliveries, trash pickup, etc. were quite disturbing. the breakfast is nothing special (the coffee is bad). and the prices have increased as well. it's no longer such a good deal, and i think we'll look elsewhere next time.

at first, we had to reject 2 other rooms before we were given a room large enough, with the requested double/queen bed. we had a room on the first floor, in the back of the hotel. noisy with deliveries at 4:00 am. i would go back again, although i would not want to stay in the back. the staff ran hot and cold, and we, too, got bored by the breakfast food after a few days.

definatly a nice place to stay

we stayed here in new year 2002 for 4 nights and were very pleased with our choice to say the price we paid was only 200 nlg a night (special web price)incluive of city tax and breakfast. city tax is not always included which adds on 5% to your bill so beware and check. all rooms have a bathand shower too which was another plus staff were friendly. one downer bar shuts early so stay out later for that last drink ok, besides that well done rembrandt.

excellent value (check the internet special price)

the room was huge, much larger than any other we've seen in amsterdam. it overlooked the canal (on the first--actually second--floor). there are two radiators in the room, so you can make it as toasty as you like. elaborate breakfast buffet--meats, cheese, breads, eggs, cereal, jusices, etc. the coffee could be better. the staff was helpful and pleasant. a special winter price is available if you book thru the website.

we stayed at rembrandt residence hotel for four nights in november. we were fortunate to have a room with a view of the beautiful herengracht canal. the room is simple but with adequate facilities. we particularly like the comfortable bed with clean sheets and blankets. most of the staff members are friendly and easygoing. after we told them that the toilet in our room broke, they fixed it immediately. we will definitely use rembrandt residence hotel again if we visit amsterdam in the future.

    mixed attitude of staff

we stayd in this hotel for four nights in mid november.our first impression was not very good. we stood at the reception for 5 mins being ignored by two members of staff who did not even look in our direction. eventually a third member of staff came along and was very helpful and pleasent. after that bad start things got better. the rooms were warm and comfortable. room service was good. buffet breakfast was plentiful, though after 4 days of the same, got boring. the view from the room was pleasing to the eyes.the location of the hotel was excellant. 5 mins walk from dam square and 10 mins walk from most other sights.the street on which the hotel is situated was, for the most, very quiet. we booked a special offer with the hotel and based on that the holiday was value for money, however, if we had paid full price our view may have been different.

    Very Friendly

We stayed here in March it was great with very frienldy staff. Even though it was cold outstide the bedrooms where warm. The breakfast was very good with a good selections of breads, crispbread, boiled eggs, scrambeled eggs, an assortment of cooked meats and cheese, + breakfast cereals and fruit juices, and as much coffee or tea as you wanted!!!!!!!! the Room we had was massive with walk in wardrobe, desk, large TV unit, marble fireplace and coffe table. I dont know about it being a double bed it was enormous!!!!!!! We would definatly go back to this hotel again. The only drawback I found was the hotel bar closed at 11pm.

Great location, clean, comfortable with helpful staff

Took the train from Schipol to Amsterdam Central. 15 minute walk to the hotel which is easy to find. Right on the banks of beautiful canal. Taxi costs 10 Gilders (around ú3). Nice welcome, rooms small but very clean/comfortable. Non - Smoking rooms available. Breakfast included and was very good cold buffet breakfast. Great location for Dam square (red light area), Anne Frank's House (unmissable) and a 15 minute walke to the main museums. Van Gogh Museum particularily great.

    first time visitor

cozy and friendly hotel. great location if your looking for quiet neighborhood surroundings. a short walk to everything. good restaurants and shops in area. staff was helpful and breakfast was included (very ggod), though other reviewer says no b-fast included in price. It's a great hotel for 30+ crowd. Too quiet for Gen Y'ers, in my opinion. Tried to stay there again on an upcoming trip, but supposedly booked up, so went elsewhere. Check out Lulu's down the street for good a dinner for 2/+ great wines. Have fun, see you in A'dam.
