Great location! nice family room!
Situated on the rokin, close to the flower market, the shopping area, the dam... Close to everything! tram stops at the door! family room - loft- comfortable (this is europe), the prettiest breakfast room i have ever seen, the " des arts" concept is well represented throughout the hotel. The breakfast itself is basic. Staff is friendly the room was clean ok although the rest of the hotel would have suffered a bit more care. No telephone in room, internet access way too expensive (5e/15min) on a computer not up-to-date!

we booked a 'quad' room for a single night in july to spend a day in amsterdam before heading home after a 2-week trip in europe. upon arriving at the hotel des arts we found the location to be great and the staff was friendly and accommodating. our room was up several flights of narrow, winding steps which was somewhat expected -- our room was a small with a fold-out couch and a single bed on the '1st' floor and an improvised loft built into the ceiling with a double bed (accessed by a stairway that was closer to a ladder). the room was not very clean and there was little air flow. that night the real trouble started -- the loft area was about 90 degrees and felt more like panama than northern europe since there was no fan and only a small window. our two children, who were excited about sleeping the loft, gave up after two hours of tossing and turning in the heat. i agreed to sleep upstairs and about 1am finally fell asleep 'in the tropics'. in the morning i awoke with about 20 mosquito bites that i guess were from mosquitoes that had flown in through the small window in the roof. we really are troopers and none of this would have mattered had this been a $50 a night 'roughing it' night which we've done many times before. the room, however, cost us just under 200 euro or about $240 so our expectations were obviously much higher. there are many, many better hotels in amsterdam for that price. don't stay here.

a clean, good value central hotel
for the last 7 years i have been going to amsterdam for a long weekend. sometimes with my wife and sometimes with a group of friends. over the years i have stayed in various hotels, some of which were more expensive than this hotel. that said they did not come up to the standard of des arts. the first time i stayed in this hotel was 3 years ago. i was so impressed with the hotel that i have returned here every year since. both my wife and my friends agree that this is very good value hotel. we have always found the staff to be friendly and helpful. the breakfast is the normal continental breakfast but it is set out in a lovely dining room. it is both fresh and plentiful. the rooms are clean tidy and large. they are on suite and all have a wall safe for your belongings. i will be returning twice this year. once with my wife and once with my friends and have booked this hotel knowing that i will be made welcome. i highly recommend this hotel to anyone who goes to amsterdam

very accessible, friendly staff, great breakfasts.
stayed there in late april. my 1 person room was small, but clean. no hot water in the afternoon and when i smoked in the room, lots of banging and shuffling in the hall resulted. was i not supposed to? too embarrassed to ask... will stay there again, i suppose.
