    Not good

Stayed in the pokey little hole at the back of the property. It felt like i was anne frank hiding from the nazis. Breakfast almost inedible.

    don't go..

Incredible small rooms and dining room with a very low standard. Nearly everything was broken / partly broken(bathroom, Internet in the lobby, beds..). If anyone talks big about this place, it has to be the owner himself.. Don't try this, it's not worth it!

we shall be staying there again

this was a 2* hotel with 18 rooms in the grachtengordel south area of the city,(near the big museums and the liedesplein) and also the paradiso club is in the same street so it was very convenient. the vvv office is just a 5 minute walk away. it's run by ed and ed and their friendly staff and it was clean and comfortable. the stairs are tiny and steep and typical of the buildings in amsterdam. there is no lift so it would be difficult with babies/toddlers and all the equipment they require. the double room was on the 2nd floor, quite small but had a balcony overlooking the rijksmuseum. as it's on a main road the trams and traffic start at around 6am it was a little noisy. the room had ensuite facilities, tv and phone. breakfast is available between 8am-10am and consists of cheese, cold meat, eggs, juice, coffee, bread and jam, etc. i took my own tea bags as there was only fruit tea available. there is also a little roof terrace with a fabulous view over the city. this was a really super little hotel and we shall be staying there again.

expensive and dirty, nice location friendly staff

the differece between the image this hotel tries to create on its website and what's there in reality is different. at comparative rates, this hotel is to be avoided. although the staff was helpful and friendly, at 300 eur for two nights double room, the impression was terrible. the sheets were dirty and with hair all over them, the double bed is actually two matrasses next to each slipping apart on every move, the rooms were not cleaned carefully, having layers of dust and dirt all over the place. despite the great location, given the high prices, you expected a certain standard - overall you had an uneasy feeling coming 'home'. with a bit of care to attention and cleanliness, it could be a great place. so, either price or quality have to change :-)

    the real amsterdam

this is in the middle of amsterdam! great location. within walking distance we had our museums and the restaurants we exactly liked. thanks to the excellent tips ed gave us. expect a 2 star hotel. be keen on what you book; they have small, medium and large rooms. small meant to sleep and be in town all day, the large rooms with a nice view. we reserved a medium room; nice, clean and quiet. medium to good breakfast for two stars, fresh fruit, even a microwave we could use. free coffee and very important, nice staff.

    nothing special

it was not too bad but generally speaking nothing to write home about either. i stayed in a single room and it was really small. the bathroom outside the room was clean though. staff were neither great nor bad.if you get a really cheap deal, then its fine. if not, shop around.

if you get a great deal ...its ok

i stayed for a week in a single room as my favourite hotels were all booked. although it was further from my usual places of interest, it did not take too long to walk to the centre of town. my room was very small, even by amsterdam standards and the view didnt exist at all. it was clean though , as were the toilet facilities outside my door. i have read some of teh otehr reviews an dmaybe it is just the single rooms that are so tiny and have no view. i woudl rather stay someplace lese next time. however, if you are stuck, its ok. but make sure you shop earound for a great deal!

    good at the price.

myself and a friend stayed in the deluxe twin/double for 2 nights. the hotel is very well situated just a short walk from plenty of restaurants and cafes in the leidseplein and also very close to 3 museums. very close to tram routes into town and a bike hire place 100yds from the hotel. first impressions were good, the staff are extrememly friendly and helpful and willing to give lengthy advice on enjoying our stay in amsterdam. im pleased we opted for the double deluxe room, some of the others may be a little small. the ensuite facilities were good, the decor was perhaps a little tatty however, although this is only a minor gripe. the room was clean though and the small balcony a bonus. the breakfasts were perfectly adequate, via self service in the basement, and coffee was available on tap. i would happily stay there again, helpful staff, great location and decent facilities at the price.

just a great two star hotel

so many people, so many wishes but the art gallery is just a great two star hotel. do not expect a 5 star room with whirlpool and a private maid but expect 5 star reception service. and expect it to be clean everywhere. much to my surprise visitors on this list say it is not clean. i would like to know their definition of clean. mohammad, who cleans the rooms, has been cleaning very carefully during my 7 days stay. clean sheets every three days like everywhere in amsterdam. some people like coffee from machines, some people don't. two star hotels can not make everybody happy with 10 different blends. we were happy with our free coffee all day. breakfast is good. fresh fruit, three cerials, toasted bread, different cheeses, meat, etc. go to france and order breakfast and notice the difference. the staff, ed and hans, are just great. they take time for you as much as you need. i have seen an older couple chatting for more than an hour. that told me enough about this hotel. will i come again? i was there in january and just stayed another week.

rooms not clean, overrpriced, ok staff, cheap breakfast

for the money, you can definitely do better in amsterdam. the location is great, but the sheets in our hotel room had hairs all over them. the bathroom floor was dirty and did not drain properly. the breakfast was bare minimum, including stale bread and cakes. staff was ok, neither mean nor nice. i would not stay there again.

    ok, not fantastic

i stayed for 5 nights and it was ok. the single room was realy small and a bit clostraphobic. however, it was ok, and although thwre was no private bathroom, the one outside the room was always empty and clean. so no problems there .

Comfortable and handy place to stay

The accomodation was excellent and good value. The breakfasts were just alright. They should use proper coffee and tea and not the stupid beverages machine. This machine really makes a rotten cup of tea or coffee. The managers, Hans and Ed, are really great and helpful and make you feel welcome. The only fly in the ointemnt is that it has no lifts and if you are aged or in poor health the climbing of a very steep set of stairs (67)to the fourth floor ,for the de-luxe rooms, is a close call to your maker. However, the manager on duty, carried the suitcases up for us and earned my undying gratitude. I would definitely come again and stay for another 5 nights.

    A good place to stay

It's exactly what you could expect of a 2 stars hotel: simple accomodations on a fair rate. Very well located (in front of the Rijks Museum and close to Leidseplein). There are good people working there, specially the guy named Hans, who really knows how to make our staying a pleasure. Unfortunately they charge an extra 5% to payments by credit card and this such important information was not on their home-page. Anyway, I would come back.
