It's not a large chain hotel. Don't have a car. Only one complaint. The tv was too small, but who goes to amsterdam to watch tv? not me! kind and helpful staff! great rooms! for americans who have issues with bathroom size - don't worry. Three minute walk to two tram lines. Big elevator/lift that works! fresh baked breads at breakfast. Nice security. Safe location. Super local brown cafe two minutes walk. this is the one dutch hotel i've stayed at where i can honestly recommend this hotel to a person with minor mobility issues. Amsterdam is difficult if you have mobility issues, but here, with the exception of a few steps to enter the building; the lift, room sizes, door sizes, bathroom sizes, layout and hotel location are favorable for a person with minor mobility issues.

friendly, clean, and comfortable accomodations
this 4-storey, 15 room hotel two blocks from the museumplein just reopened in early april, 2002 after months of extensive remodeling. the decor has a simple elegance, with the deep gold window treatments and plenty of fresh flowers. it is not only the quiet residential location and the setting that make this small hotel a good bet. it is the owners, khuhn and anita, who really set a friendly, welcoming tone. in fact, even though my flight arrived in amsterdam much earlier than the usual check-in time, my hosts made sure my room was ready for a much-needed rest. the breakfast buffet of scrambled eggs, fresh orange juice, yogurt, fresh fruit, cold cuts, and cheeses is quite filling. each room has a brand-new bathroom, complete with hair dryer and towel warmer. the intimate garden just off the dining room is being redone as well. i found the hotel van de kasteelen to be a real treat. when i return to amsterdam, i will definitely stay with khuhn and anita.
