stayed here for a couple of nights in feb 2003. the location is great, far enough from the center to be peaceful, close enough to walk everywhere. the rooms are small, like the other reviewers say, but if you are on holiday do you really go to sit in a hotel room? it was clean, the breakfast buffet good, and it did the job. shame about that front desk guy though, just about the only unfriendly person we met....

great location - not so great hotel
just like the others already wrote, my room was very small. it was clean, though and the breakfast was good. it was cheap by a'dam standards, 70⬠per night. i'll book a different hotel the next time i guess, might be a bit more expensive, but that room was just too small. the location is great, everything's just a short walk away and that's a big plus. so all in all it was ok.

only if you must
the nes is rated 3 stars because it has an elevator, otherwise it barely merits 2. the place looks nice from the website, as do the public areas like the lobby and dining room, but it's deceptive. i paid the equivalent of $100 a night for 2 nights in a single. my room was an architectural afterthought that tapered from about 9 feet wide at one end down to about 5 feet at the other, and overlooked the grubbiest alley this side of taipei. like in some other hotels, the shower drains right into the bathroom floor. unlike some other hotels, the shower area isn't countersunk, so the water just spreads all over.

great location, small rooms and unfriendly front desk day man
stayed here over christmas and new year's 2002. the location is superb. the hotel was still quite shabby (as pointed out in the previous review) but had some nice art work. the male person who manned the front desk during the day was an unfriendly, pompous fool. he attitude alone should put anyone off who may think of staying here. overpriced and probably not worth it, even given the location.

relaxed, good location, disappointing rooms
stayed at the nes in may 2001. impressive on the outside, excellent location, nice lobby, breakfast room, lift. rooms (shabby orange decor) themselves leave a lot to be desired and are not good value for money even by a_dam standards. if you want to book, haggle. some people off the street came in and were offered rooms at half the price due to a cancellation.
