Have you every been treated like a criminal?
Have you ever been treated as a criminal? no? then this is the place to be. in the evening of 05-05-2009 me and my girlfriend walked my cousin back to his room. on our way out my girlfriend needed to visit the ladies room, so i waited in the lobby. While i was waiting in the lobby i was looking back at the nice evening i spent with my cousin. this was about to change.... The next thing i see is my girlfriend being escorted to the exit. I walked towards the staff at the exit and ask if there was a problem. It turned out my girlfriend got lost and ended up in a restricted area. I was rudely approached by max and was treated in a manner not heard of. I tried to explain why we were there, but this was not satisfactory to max. Basically max didn't want to hear anything about it. He was very rude and not understanding. in the future i will not be recommending my family or friends to stay at this hotel. The staff is rude not understanding and verbally aggressive. i hope this review will help you make the right choice. kind regards, steven.

clean and tidy, nice breakfast 31/10/05
having stayed in a couple of cheap hotels we payed a bit more and what a surprise. friendly staff, clean and tidy, good breakfast, good location,a bit noisy with the new metro being built but not the hotels fault.nice hotel for couples or the older generation. only down side no music channels on the tv. would we stay again ? yes next year.

dour, sour, unfriendly staff
i stayed at the hotel rokin in november 04 and have to say that the staff completely let down the standard of the hotel's facilities and great location. from the first instant i entered the foyer to check in, the receptionist was extremely difficult and unhelpful - not giving me my key even though he had a record of my reservation until i made an unecessary fuss. i was later accused of 'hiding' extra guests in my room; a change from a double room to a twin single room proved too difficult (even though we had originally booked a twin single); the guest policy changed from 2 hours to 1 hour to no guests at all over a 3 day period; and finally the cleaning staff do not knock but simply barge in. all in all i was extremely disappointed with the level of service and would definitely not recommend it if you want to go to amsterdam to relax on a nice weekend break. the staff will treat you as if you are a teenager with a curfew and will be unecessarily rude. find somewhere else.

perfect central location
we enjoyed a 4 night stay in this hotel 4 oct 2004 to 8 oct 2004. plus points 1. central location - close to dam square 2. friendly helpful staff 3. superb food as much as you could eat. 4. very clean 5. pleasant comfortable room 6. plenty of piping hot water 7. lift to all bedroom floors 8. 24 hour security presence at reception minus points 1. major road works outside hotel (new metro) 2. steep narrow stairway to dining room 3. steps up to front door 4. no hot drinks available except at breakfast for the able bodied this is an ideal hotel close to all major attractions, though the works on the new metro line outside the hotel operate from 07:30 to 19:30 and likely to go on into 2005. a problem if you like a lie in or a snooze during the day! if you have difficulty climbing stairs it is not for you.
Review by me, united kingdom.
we were pleasently surprised by the newly renovated rokin hotel, just as friendly as before, but this time with a brand new reception room where the old recepeption and breakfast room were, the new breakfast room now being downstairs in the basement, and nicely done too. there is a nice shiny new lift to all but the top floor which takes the strain out of climbing the perilous old stairs (especially after a few beers!). the rooms are all newly created with en-suite shower rooms, tv (although the satellite was bust while we were there), free safe, and all smelt clean and fresh, watch out for the hot water in the shower tho as it can go from proper temperature to hot for no apparent reason while you are in it!! breakfast is much improved, with bacon and scrambled egg now available. all in all, a very nice new hotel, the old one was a bit of a flea pit, but prices have risen, we paid 60 euros last year, and 95 the same time this year. we plan on returning next year again.

had such a bad experience at this hotel. room was small - no safe or trouser press like the brochure stated - tried complaining and were told this was 'the only room available' and the receptionist seemed to be quite bemused that we were not happy. no offer of apology, not a slight bit of interest. paid a lot for this hotel and would have been far better off to pay less and go for a two-star because this hotel sure ain't a four-star.

not like the glossy brochure pictures!
beware if you book through expedia is all i can say! you get what you pay for and the hotels seem to put you in the worst rooms available. for the first night we had a no smoking room - ha ha in amsterdam - that was not much fun. the second room was so tiny, it had no in-room safe, the furniture was shabby, bathroom small, and the air-conditioning was possibly fitted when the hotel was built in the 19 century - it was noisy and useless. the member of staff on reception couldn't have given a toss whether or not our stay was enjoyable or crap - she was rude and unapologetic at our having to change rooms on the second day. and to top it all massive road works/building site right next to the hotel!! our friends stayed in the park and grand hotel krasnapolsky - both hotels tried to check them into horrible rooms but they were both upgraded to more suitable rooms when they complained - the moto - beware of expedia!! 27/04/2004

close to central station, dam square, and route 66 koffie
my brother and i have stayed at the victoria twice now and have had great times there. 3 minutes from central station walking. unique layout for the rooms and we had a great view last nov. when we were there. never bothered us about smoking but we were discreet also, blowing out the window and all

nice and clean
i liked this place. there was some consstruction going on when i was there from sept. 29th till oct. 7th, but i didn't mind. it was my alarm clock. the stairs are steep, but then isn't it everywhere? the price was very affordable and the location was perfect. they are installing elevators next year, so the price might go up then. the breakfast was nice. not hot and steaming, but it did the trick.

on arrival we were put into a room that was very small it looked like a double for a single person. i come to amsterdam alot and i must say this is the smallest most uncomfortable room ever. there was not enough room for a chair! we made a complaint as our booking confirmation said we should have a safe and trouser press etc and we didn't have them in our room, only to be told not all rooms have all these facilities. anyway we were moved the following morning to a much better room.

clean, friendly, perfect location!
we stayed in here in november 2002. we found the hotel basic but clean and the staff very welcoming. we stayed in the annexe which we enjoyed as there is a great coffeshop just around the corner! the hotel rokin is perfectly situated right in the centre near dam square and makes an ideal base for exploring te city.

a comfortable, clean hotel - far better than others charging the same amount!
really enjoyed our stay here and are hoping to stay again. the rooms are basic but comfortable and clean, the staff are friendly, the breakfast is basic but pleasant (bread, cheese, ham, jam etc - same as previous hotels) and the ensuite bathrooms are clean also...would happily recommend!

the rokin is perfect for me.
i was in asterdam for the week before xmas 2001. i stayed in the rokin annex, which is a few minutes away from the main building on a quiet canal street. i was in one of the ground floor rooms with a view of the canal. the staff was cool, 'smoker friendly' and i never had any kind of problem there. right around the corner is the cum laude coffeeshop...an out of the way shop frequented mostly by locals and the most comfortable coffeehouse i visited. the free breakfast was great..dutch cheeses, bread, an egg and coffee or tea. the room was clean, moderately attractive, private bath and a few minutes walk from the red light and other points of interest. i definately intend to stay there again.

best deal about the victoria is its location, right across from central station on damrak. i can't think of another hotel so ideally situated for accessing the rest of amsterdam via public transportation. the room was very good and the staff was friendly and helpful. this is a typical 4-star hotel. it is a little pricey but so are all 4-stars. good breakfast (not included room rate) and extra features. recommended

excellent location - quality room and hotel
best deal about the victoria is its location, right across from central station on damrak. i can't think of a hotel location which makes getting around amsterdam so easy. the room was very good and the staff was helpful and courteous. i got there a little early but they got my room ready by noon. the victoria is pricey but that comes with the 4-star rating which they earn. recommended.

there is a vending maching that sells heinikens.... you cant beat that!!
i went to amsterdam this year, 02' and i stayed at rokin 73 hotel. not much to expect, but for the price you pay i give it a 3 star rating. when they say 'yes, mam you have the canal house.' dont get overly excited that you will have a 'canal view.' you might just get to stare at a damn wall!! service was wonderful. stairs were steep. and the room was just what i expected.... very little. if the tiny t.v. is not coorperating - just hit it on the left side, it will respond. only thing i have to complain about is the cum covered blanket. but hey, the worlds not perfect - just dont lay on top of it!!

pretty good really
i stayed at rokin for 6 nights over xmas/ new years and found it pretty good. breakfasts are big, the service is good and probably the only thing i would complain about was the street noise. i'm going back to amsterdam later this year and will stay there again. i'll take ear plugs though this time.

got robbed someone broke into my room it was nasty the water smelled the worst, pillows lumpy as hell, street outside loud, for the money there really is alot better on the outside of centrum like near vondel park still close but much safer!! the staff was helpful after i told them i got robbed though, there are even better places to stay in the centrum, i went for the weed not for the hookers. hah hah

dont expect much!!!
stayed at the rokin for 4 nights, the service was good, the location is great, however the rooms are nothing great. we had a double with private washroom, there were mold stains covering the ceiling, and the walls were pretty dirty, the bathroom was ok...the people at the front desk were always nice. we only made breakfast once and its not really worth getting up for, bread and an egg, thats it!!! the really bad thing was the stairs, now i know that most hotels in amsterdam have steep stairs and we have stayed at other ones, however these ones were awful, your just about ready to collaspe when you get to your floor, i stongly recommend people who have difficulties climbing stairs to stay elsewhere. i booked this hotel judging on the reviews i read on this site, however i was dissapointed and do not think it deserves 4 stars..last year we stayed at the hotel agora, same price and a much nicer hotel, bigger rooms and better breakfast. i dont think we will stay at the rokin again.

left to your own devices!!
arrived to the rokin & was sent around to the canalhouse (no extra charge unless you request it). nice house on a quiet stretch of canal, just a stones throw form the red light district. the room was fine - nothing to write home or complain about...the only thing i didn't like was the blanket on the bed which looked like it had seen better days, but as i arrived during a heat wave, it was cosigned to the wardrobe. the tv was both black & white & colour - it kept changing from one to the other, which made for interesting viewing!! never made it for breakfast, but overall, the place was fine & i would stay there again.

i was there from june the 6-14 and it was so perfect. i got a single for only f125 a night (although there was no shower or toilet in the room, i only had to share with one other room) the breakfast is cool, the people are cool, and the front desk is very informative and ... cool. being on rokin, you are in the middle of everything. one weird thing about the hotel was that we couldn't take our room key out of the building but i guess that is to keep people from making copies of the key... (so people won't steal your stuff). i felt really secure .. even when i was paranoid from smoking so much hash. by the way .. the best irish pub is stumbling distance from the hotel (two doors down). i guess it's really popular (the bar) because every day i saw bus loads (literally) of people going in. oh yeah, i had no problem smoking in my room (hash) so i think they are cool with it.

Rokin is the BEST!
Rokin is excellent value and great location. Stayed at the Canal house annex is a short walk from the main lobby but well worth it! Rooms are small but clean and comfy. Beds feel good after a long day of walking around Wonderful Amsterdam! Nice breakfast included in price. Will stay there everytime I go back to Amsterdam!

The Rokin is great
If your looking to stay somewhere that is affordable, professionally run, clean, and in an excellent location, I highly recommend the Rokin. Our room wasn't huge but it was very comfortable. The shared bathrooms are clean. The staff at the Rokin is outstanding. The breakfast is simple but good (great coffee). We were looking for a place where we could relax and sleep well after taking some long days in Amsterdam. The Rokin was perfect. We flew into A'dam and stayed there at the beginning and end of the trip. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

Fantastic value at this central location
I stayed at the Rokin on two separate trips. Maybe that should be compliments enough! I had rooms in the main Rokin building and the 'Annexe' canal house around the corner. The rooms are clean, well maintained, and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. For the price, at this excellent central location, the Rokin is a great value. The breakfast is lite 'continental' and you may have to climb several flights of stairs to your room if it is not on the ground floor. The tram (public transit) is just across the street, or from the hotel you can walk only a few blocks to the best locations in central Amsterdam. Enjoy your stay at the Rokin - I did!

Nice location, Nice price, Nice room, NICE PLACE!
Stayed at Rokin 17 - 22/8/2000. Easy to find (which was nice). Was put in the 'annexe' (2 mins round the corner). Good location (less than 1 min walk)for a couple of nice cafes, a nice coffeeshop (Cum Laude) selling by the gram, a fantastic Mexican restaurant, and an Irish Pub (Tara's) which had English footy on TV (very important!). Room was spacious, had a mad corridor in (yes the room did) and a balcony inside (again, yes inside the room) above the bathroom. Staff were friendly and one lad actually said there was no need to tip him (and meant it!) despite carrying our bags from the reception desk. Breakfast was fine, but a long way away at that time in the morning. Our room (91) was on the ground floor and tables for a cafe were right outside (and I do mean right outside), which could be a bit noisy late at night, but hey, who goes to Adam to sleep anyway! Definitely recommend it and would (no will) go back there.

Clean, comfortable, great location, fantastic value for money.
Hotel Rokin is an ideal place to explore the great city of Amsterdam. We stayed in the Annexe, which is a great looking canalhouse 5 minutes away from the very centre of Amsterdam. It is clean comfortable, and very well priced. I am planning to visit the Dam again in February and am definately going to be staying at the Rokin again.

Great location, excellent rooms & lovely views !!
Stayed here during the summer of 1998. The hotel is literally across the street from the Central Station. They gave us a free upgrade to a larger room with a great view of the Central Station and canals. The staff was friendly and helpful. Although a bit expensive, it was well worth it.
