not bad for the price
i recently spent 3 nights in a single room at the avenue. the room was quite small but comparable to other single rooms in amsterdam. it had a bed, tv, shower and a window that fully opened. was a bit on the noisy side with the trams and street traffic walking by but that died off by the time bedtime rolled around. i smoked in the room with the window open each night and had no problems. no signs saying don't or anything in the in room information warning you against smoking. just be considerate is the rule there it seemed. i wasn't the only one either since i did smell a bit from a few other rooms on the floor. good location close to de kuil, betty boop, homegrown fantasy and a number of other fine shops. breakfast was adequate but nothing to rave about other than included in the room price. on the whole, not bad for 85 euros a night.

good location - but that's about it.
stayed for 5 nights in early december 2002. generally i was disappointed. based on advice from reviews on this site i requested a street-view, but 'single' rooms at the avenue do not overlook the street. my window opened onto a row of other windows and when it was closed, it had to be sealed around the edges with toilet paper to keep out the cold breeze! my single room was predictably small and the heating was inefficient. tv's offer no english-speaking stations - didn't really worry me, but there were times it would have been nice to watch a bit of telly... staff were pleasant, but the hotel offers nothing 'special' to make you want to return. definitely the best attribute of the avenue is its location - very convenient. i wont be staying there next time though. for around the same price there's plenty of others in the same area.

standards have slipped
yes it's me again. third visit and perhaps my last. location still good, obviously that hasn't changed! got a room overlooking the trams again which was great, but the overall decor in the room seemed more dated and drab. the covers on the bed didn't seem to have a duvet cover on! or it is did it was white and looked poor due to it. others we went with weren't overkeen either, which was annoying as i'd recommended it.

much better with a nice view
we stayed in the avenue again and this time our room overlooked the street. wehat a difference it made to our stay. whilst the hotel quality is very good the crap view last time made our time in our room quite dull, but this time it was great and just added to the overall 'dam experience. couldn't beat lighting a spliff in the morning and watching the world go by below. will definitely stay here again. the prices are good, location is superb and the quality is high.

excellent, great location, fantastic breakfast, friendly staff
i stayed at the avenue hotel from 18th march 2002 for 3 nights. booked a special internet offer of 70 euros for a twin room including a full american breakfast. the standard rate started at 118 euros. the hotel has been recently renovated, is very clean, and the rooms are fresh and tidy. there is a small bar, but i only used it for a nightcap drink as it is really small. highly recommended, first class

got what we paid for
compared to the vastly overrated golden tulip caransa this hotel compared pretty well. the room was pretty average, a bit like a travelodge (uk chain) but no less comfortable or pleasant. the big downside about our room was that we had no view at all apart from the inside of numerous other rooms windows. shame, because last time we got a wonderful view of the city and a similar view would have given it another star to the rating. not all rooms will be like this of course though. the location was excellent, near the station and right next to the shops and immediate nightlife. the rld was close and it was also easy to reach the anne frank house. everything else was an easy walk away, not always a close one but there was always shops and sights to see on the way. the staff were good, they were polite when we were obviously stoned on the amsterdam tobacco and helpful at all times. a good choice overall.

Friendly, convenient, affordable, with a very decent breakfast.
I have stayed at the Avenue 4 times since '93, most recently in winter '98. The prices are good, the staff very kind, and it is convenient to central station and the wonderful Jordaan neighborhood. The breakfast is good and the rooms very comfortable, with plenty hot water for great steaming showers in winter-time.I will surly be back.

Pleasant, friendly, and easy to find in any condition!
Stayed in the Avenue for 10 days during late November--early December 98. The staff was attentive and friendly. The rates were reasonable and the room was clean and comfortable. The location is just enough off center to relax but still enjoy all night activities to the fullest. The place is remarkably easy to find. I planned to stay again but they were fully booked for my vacation dates in 99.

A quiet pleasent place in the active & bustling centrum
I stayed in Avenue Hotel for 3 weeks at the end of '97. It was a clean, attractive & well run. All of the staff are very friendly & helpful. I enjoyed my stay here very much.

Me esperaba otra cosa
