    Sweet stay

The hotel was wonderful. Staff was excellent. Old school but modern enough that you do not live the 16th century experience. Air conditioning, ect. 5 star when considering european travel. (i do not think some people get that) yes a little spendy, but worth the money when it comes to service, rooms, and especially location. You can't beat where you are. The nicest area of a'dam!!!!

    spend your money elsewhere!

we saved up to try this 5* 'luxury' hotel out, but were well disappointed. the reception staff were very snooty, though the room staff (cleaners, laundry people) were very friendly and more down to earth. the rooms are described as 'luxury' and a bit old world, but i found them very modern (too modern for what i was wanting for my money). on the plus side, the breakfast (get it all in with the package, otherwise you'll have to take out a second mortgage) was great, as much as you like, just fill up for the rest of the day.

Expensive, but great if your company is paying!

They were renovating the March I was there in 97. Who isn't in March in A'dam? Be aware that they do not appreciate 'smoking' in the rooms. Only hotel I've ever been in in trips going into the teens now, where I received a note on my bed from the hotel management on lovely letterhead stationary, one evening upon returning to the room, asking me and my guest to 'refrain from smoking marijuana in the hotel and smoke it in the coffee house like everyone else.' No other hassle and no direct confrontation, but what a souvenier! A typical 5 star hotel. Stayed there as part of an airline/hotel package. Great food, good service, friendly & helpful staff.
