Excellent hotel in all respects
I have been coming to the a4 hotel for over 20 years and i must say i have never been dissapointed at any time. the staff are always helpful, the food is excellent, the shuttle bus to airport punctual, and the whole place very clean. The bedrooms(all with bathroom) have good facilities.

Nice facility but staff rude and unprofessional
I stayed at the van der valk shiphol in early june 2007. At first glance i found the place to be very nice and the bar was extremely posh. Unfortunately the staff left much to be desired from a place that was trying to pass itself off as a luxury-type hotel. first of all, when i went down to breakfast the first day nearly all of the tables had "reserved" signs on them. Unable to find a table without one, i simply sat down at a two-top with one of the signs and began eating. The room was nearly empty, yet within two seconds of beginning my meal i was set upon by a man who rudely informed me that i must find somewhere else to sit. When i asked where, he simply waved his hand in the general area of another section and then scurried away. The next day when i came down for lunch, it was nearly 14:00 and yet the breakfast buffet had yet to be taken down. I stood at the entrance waiting to be sat by a host but after waiting for 10 minutes i decided to ask someone. The only person who would stop to talk to me was the man who had been rude to me the day before. When i told him i wanted to eat lunch he looked at me as though i had just said something bizarre and then shrugged. Feeling frustrated and very hungry, i decided just to eat from what was left of the buffet. I asked him if i could charge the buffet to my room and he said in a very condescending tone, "you have a room here?" i put silverware down at the table i intended to eat at, and when i returned with my food one of the servers had removed the silverware. later on that week, i decided to extend my stay in the netherlands and told the hotel clerk that i wanted to get an extra day. When she ran my information, she said they had it recorded that i had already checked out. When i told her this was impossible, she looked at me suspiciously as if i was trying to play a prank. it seemed the whole time that the staff was very snooty and snobbish, which was ironic because i chose this hotel because of its cheap rates. If this place really wants to think of itself as a luxury hotel, it needs to seriously consider re-training its staff, or just fire the lot and start over.

Good place. I will stay there again.
I stayed at the van der valk hotel a4 schiphol. The first time i went to amsterdam. I was allowed an early check in six hours early with no extra charge. The staff were friendly and helpfull. The facility is secure. The breakfast was very good. A vast buffet with a wide selection for everyone. My room was clean, the wireless internet worked great for my laptop. You can buy pre paid internet cards at reception. All the rooms have safes in them also. You can use the airport shuttle bus to go back and forth to the airport where you can catch the train into the city. There are at least five restaurants close by the hotel and a gas station that has great sandwiches and drinks. I will stay there again. The price is very reasonable.
