Nice hotel - friendly staff
I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. I stayed in a triple room with two friends. It was a little tight, but the room was clean with a nice bathroom, free safe and a nice view over spuistraat. Breakfast was a little dull, but free, so no real complaint there. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location is perfect, a quick walk to central station and close to everthing. I would definitely stay again.

i have stayed at the nicolaas on nearly every occasion i have been to amsterdam. it is excellently located, very clean and the staff are amongst some of the most approachable, friendly and helpful i have come across. for a budget hotel, you cannot go wrong! if you are expecting spas and swimming pools and staff who nearly trip you up every time you walk through the lobby, then don't bother. however, if you want affordable and clean accommodation, then it is well worth a visit!!

not bad accomodation.
this is not a bad hotel, its in a good location, was clean and breakfast was pretty substantial. the tram noise isnt so bad if you get a room on the spuistraat side. also the safe in the room was free. staff was friendly and accomodating. lots of food drink and smoke near by. the beds werent too comfy but oh well.

been there from the 26th of december till the 31st. very clean hotel, free breakfast, helpful and polite stuff. free tv in the room, beds were in very good condition, enormous private bathroom with toilet. you can even smoke in your room. it has an old elevator but it works just fine. 2 minutes from central station on foot, very close to everything. for sure, i will go there again when time permits.

clean hotel with good location
clean rooms, good beds, indeed a very good location and compared with the other hotels in the area is the st. nicolaas very affordable. breakfast is free. i do like to recommend the st. nicolaas; it is a budget hotel, but it is comfortable; i felt safe and very welcome.

nice hotel near central station
the first time i went to amsterdam two years ago i had to walk for ages to find my hotel. this time it was so easy to get from central station to the hotel. and go from there to all the great things that amsterdam had to offer. till next time !!

large rooms can accomodate 3 persons.
if you are traveling single, i would not recommend the sint nicolaas. however, if you are in a group of 2 or three, then this may be your place. the large rooms have 3 beds and a shower in the bathroom. it's a clean hotel with modest accomodations. no, it's not the barbizon but for what you pay with a group, it's a fine value. great location. breakfast comes with the room rate and gets you started. recommended for small groups.

very clean and central, but very disappointing.would not recommend
cant be faulted on its location . room fair size , furniture very old and unstable ; but very clean .room stank of sewage on arrival because plumber had not flushed the system . no shower curtain in bathroom which caused a fall . breakfast room doubles as reception . sat next to a table which had a cat on top of it .think that to describe this as a hotel is pushig it a bit . think that it was not good value for money .

good value for money and friendly service
the nicolaas hotel has the feel of a family run hotel. nothing fancy, but the friendly hospitality did make me feel at home. rooms are spacious and clean, bathrooms private and clean and hotel location excellent. not the type of hotel to visit if you want to stay inside the hotel the whole day, the tram noise will drive you crazy. a good place though to enjoy a deserved rest and breakfast before you start exploring the exciting streets of amsterdam again. i will most certainly return.

A very nice place to stay
My family & I visited in May, and it WAS a nice, clean hotel. The staff were all very freindly folks, and the rooms were large with TV and private bath (bring your own shower curtain though!)and a nice view of the street below. The hotel is in a prime location with all kinds of things to see and do walking in all directions. We will definitely return, hopefully sooner than later.

would have been nice to find out
Well, we would have liked to find out what the hotel was like but as we turned up and they had no knowledge of our booking (didn't receive out confirmation e-mail)we never found out. They did suggest another place to try, and let us leave our stuff there whilst we found somewhere else, which was nice of them. It did look like a nice hotel though, and seemed quite well-located. But if you book over the net, make sure you receive confirmation of your confirmation email before you assume it's booked.

An economic 2 Star Hotel with an Elavator
Have stayed there several times. Rooms are clean. All have a private bath/shower. Breakfast is served Vs. buffet. It is a typical 2 star breakfast. Coffee or tea, OJ, bread, meats and cheeses and jelly/jam. Nothing fancy. 24 hr. security. Hair dryer and iron at desk on request. Considering that the maximum fee of NLG200 is USD 50 pppn, it's a good deal.

I thought it was a great place. everyone was very friendly to us, and we even liked the breakfast. It's not as exciting as someplace like the Winston, but not everyone wants that anyway... -s-

Worst Hotel of Amsterdam
We have been in this hotel, and the onliest thing we can´t do is to recommend it. The hotel is directly between two roads, at five o´clock in the morning you have all two minuts a traim making a lot of noises. This noisy atmosphere is all the day. At the same time the room cleaning is very bad you have to take a boat when you finished with having a shower, because there is not any courtin, and the toilet wasn´t clean enough. The elevator is very old and it was an elevator for freight and now it transports people. The people who works there are not frendly, only the girls but both men were very arrogant. The breakfast is very poor, don´t ask for more things because inmediatly they make long faces. Of course the hotel is cheap in comparation with other hotels, but sometimes it is better to pay a little bit more money and then you can enjoy your holiday, we didn´t do it because the hotel was terrible.
