Average user rating ![]() Write a new review ![]() perfect location great hotel in a perfect location on the singel close to the spui. we had a canal view room with a spacious, clean bathroom with plenty of hot water and pressure, a safe and breakfast was included with the price. i liked the smart card entry system. the owners were very friendly and helpful, always ready to answer questions and give advice. if you don't like to climb stairs, ask for a ground floor room - my legs got quite the work out! i would stay at the agora again without hesitation. ![]() the place to go way above what i am used to from other 2* hotels, the agora made me feel welcome from the beginning. 125⬠is above what the other 2*s cost, but a day in the agory is well worth it. breakfast was great, we had canal view and a safe, and they even allowed my friend to breakfast here for free, even though she stayed at another place. ![]() needs a scrub! just back from 4 nights at the agora. nice friendly staff; good clean b'fast area with great coffee and cont. buffet. secure(smart cards); off the main drag - what u want - and a good central location, except for its proximity to benches that play host to the squabblings of the night people, but, hey, this is a'dam! good check-in/out, and there's a web terminal in the foyer. one big drawback: our room - n0.30 - was needing a bit of lippy, shall we say, and the carpet was positively filthy, and dead bugs covered the window sills. we were also bitten several times by god-knows-what, and my better half found a large flea-like bug in here bed-linen! we would go back - if we'd heard of a refurb! ![]() great hotel for the price! hey guys, just got back from amsterdam, stayed at the agora from may 21-29. the staff is very helpful and nice. the room we got, number 25, was small, but this is what i heard was the norm in most hotels over here. its not like you go to amsterdam to stay in your room though! for the price of 110 euro a night, it included all taxes and breakfast. we only got up for breakfast once, it was small, but nice. it was probably one of the best priced hotels i ever stayed at! this place is highly recommended because of service, price, and location. ![]() clean place - good value i stayed here in dec 2000 & plan to return again this october. the hotel is very well situated - right in the centre, but on a quiet stretch of canal just far enough away from the hussle & bustle. also, if you're carrying a backpack, it's in easy walking distance from central station. i stayed on the top floor (lots of stairs - quite tricky to negotiate on the way down esp. when you've big feet!) - the room, at the back of the building, had little in the way of a view (you pay more at the front), but the windows were huge which made for a nice bright room. the room & bathroom were both very clean - the bed was very comfortable & the tv had a few english speaking stations - handy for keeping up with sports results! the heating stayed on all day - just as well - it's very cold in december. the breakfast wasn't bad (i'm not much of a breakfast person) but the coffee delicious - a great way to start the day! the staff were very pleasant & accommodating, but like all dutch, quite formal (this is not a criticism, just an observation). the late night bakery round the corner came in very handy & i found the location ideal for visiting the quiter & nicer areas of the dam without ever being too far from the action. ![]() very good value i stayed at the agora for just one night because the hotel i had already booked was so noisey after one night, i had to leave. this hotel was very peaceful and the rooms clean and friendly, plus is was in fact cheaper than the hotel i had moved from. as a single woman in amsterdam, it was a perfect resting place. ![]() clean and friendly we stayed 3 nights and found the hotel to be excellently situated. the room was small but clean with all mod. cons. ie. clock/radio, telephone, tv and even a safe. the bathroom was lovely and appeared to be new. breakfast was buffet style with plenty to eat and wonderful coffee, (i wished that i had asked what make it was) would happily recommend this hotel to friends and stay again without hesitation. ![]() great a great location right in the centre of the best part of town. as for the hotel the place is clean, the staff are very helpful and the breakfast is just right. one complaint and i guess all old buildings in amsterdam are similar, stairs that resemble ladders. we where on the top floor and at times i thought we wouldn't make it. but apart from that we had a great stay and would definately return big thanks to the agora ![]() Steep stairs Great location, helpful staff. The one drawback for this 40 year old was climbing steep set of stairs to get to my room.Other problem, though not the hotels fault, was the little square in front of the hotel was all dug up for construction (as was the rest of amsterdam it seemed). If climbing stairs is no problem I highly recommend the Agora. ![]() An Excellent Value My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Agora from 8 October through 14 October, 2000 in room #25. This was definitely worth the money. It was very clean and I especially loved the bathroom, plenty of hot water and water pressure. The breakfast and coffee was delicious and the staff extremely friendly and helpful. There was some construction going on but they seemed to make good progress. If you're looking for a good italian restaurant, Casa de David is right down the street and has great food. Two good coffee shops, Dutch Flowers and the Tweede Kamer are right down the street across the canal. There is a good bakery right across from Dutch Flowers and a grocery store right on the corner of the hotel. And who can forget the Flower Market-had to buy a cheap vase and some roses (the tulips wouldn't fit) and they were gorgeous all week long. All in all, we were very pleased with our stay here and would highly recommend it! ![]() Great Location Stayed at the Agora in September 99.Room was very comfortable and clean. Private bathroom seemed new and it too was very clean. The staff was very friendly by phone and in person. Centrally located in a neat quiet area off the Singel canal. The Dutch flowers Coffee Shop is across the street about a block down, next to a good little bakery. I will be staying there again in the Fall 2000. ![]() Excellent value for groups We stayed at this hotel in March 1999 for 4 days and loved it. We had a room with 4 single beds and a private shower and toilet for US$33 per day per person. The staff was friendly and helpful. A great cafe ('Singel' something) is only a couple of blocks away on the canal and has a BLT to die for. Highly recommended, but book ahead as they fill up. ![]() We are going back! We found our room to be comfortable and the staff to be oh so pleasant We hope to return this spring. The location is great, walking distance to restaurants, shopping and of course the coffee shops! ![]() Very Nice Value Agora Hotel is a pleasant, small bed and breakfast. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast is included and is very substantial. The location is great! Be sure to check out Dutch Flowers coffee shop just across the canal. The housekeeping could have been better and be sure to ask for a good bed!! Enjoy! |
