Average user rating ![]() Write a new review ![]() best soup in the world....probably! my wife and i were in amsterdam yesterday for one day only on business. it was the coldest either of us had been in a long time.we stopped at the cafe luxembourg because we liked the charming look of the place. we ordered the pistou soup which i have to say was the best soup we had ever eaten....excellent service, nice vibe....will return next time i'm in the city. ![]() service was off a bit... unlike our last visit, last year, this year's trip the service was a bit snooty. two times we went, couldn't get a seat. it has turned more into a singles kind of place. the one time we did get to eat there, we had to go early in the day. the food was still very good. maybe popular places just seem to migrate with the crowd, ever changing, so to speak. restaurant beaume is just a little better, and way less crowded. sorry luxembourg, you lost 1 star this time. ![]() singles meeting spot this cafe restaurant is a great singles meeting spot for those wannabees who think they are themselves are someone special or will meet someone special, yet by the looks of the clientele one wouldn't get the impression that anyone appears any different than anyone else anywhere else in egalitarian holland. don't go here for eats, the food is as common as a dutch sandwhich meaning, the fare offered is the same as in any sandwhich bar unless you consider a 'diner' is a restaurant. i don't. ![]() one of best restaurants in a-dam. real nice ambiance, real good food, broad selection of menu items to choose from. we ate their twice on our last trip sept.7-sept.17. the service was friendly, and the prices were reasonable. it does cost you a 1 guilder coin to use the toilet. but even that is worth it. this place is easy to find, right down spui, past the entrance of the beignof, then straight in front of you. well reccomended. ![]() Probably the best in Town. I've been in Amsterdam for two weeks and visited bars and cafes all over the city. The most relaxed atmosphere and the best (cafe-style)food, I found in the Luxembourg. Service could be better, but the waitresses look great.(I think I'm in love)Don't miss it! ![]() probably the best in town!! What a luxury, a cafe with a decent glass of whine, lovely waitresses and a wll stocked reading table. Mighty fine atmosphere. I'll be back........ ![]() Service means everything - there is none nice location, good people watching, but don't expect to ever see a waitress. ![]() Essence of the continent, do not miss in dam. Cafe Lux is great!!! Its always busy and full of mostly Amsterdammers with a sprinkling of tourists. In addition, right across the street is the best bookshop in 'dam. The main floor island where you can sit and read a variety of newspapers is a great place to hang out if youre single and looking. The waitstaff are overworked but very friendly...service can be slow when the place is busy. Coffee is of course fantastic. The soups there are very good and make an excellent snack - soup is the only thing I found Hollanders do reasonably well...the rest of Dutch food sucks and is incredibly unhealthy. They don't know what a salad is unless its smothered in greasy mayo. Eat Indian or Indonesian for regular meals...try Shiva Indian near Rembrandtsplein. One caveat - there is no such thing in Holland as a no smoking area in a restaurant so if you wanna avoid the inevitable then sit outside at Cafe Lux. |
