    Cheap and cheerful

First thing i should point out is if you reserve a room with a card and then pay cash on arrival, check your card statement for up to a week afterwards. I did this and found as well as paying by euros at the desk on arrival, premiere class had deducted an amount from my card. Statements and reciepts available showing this mr lawyer. good points - i stayed at this hotel and its in the the style of a british travel lodge. The rooms were cosy with tv, separate cubicle with toilet, washbasin and shower. I booked the channel crossing using norfolkline to dunkirque(£58 both ways) and then looked for a hotel and found this one online. It is very close to the norfolkline terminal and made the whole trip so easy. The terminal and hotel are at loon plage, about 3 miles out of the main dunkirque centre so no battling with traffic on the wrong side of the road for first time crossers. From the main roundabout connecting the terminal and hotel, you can go straight down the d300 road to the main motorway, or continue accross the motorway roundabout and go 'cross country'. I did this to save the motorway tolls, first stop was st omer (good old mc donalds, very convenient) and then follow the n44 down to besancon. There is a supermarket accross the road although they close at 9pm. bad points - the rooms and the hotel looked what i can only describe as tired. Old fashioned style bedding and pub style 'easy clean' nylon carpets. There were lines of dust and fibre buildup in the corners of the rooms and hallway carpets, but then, for £30 a night, you can't expect the ritz. breakfast was poor. It costs 4.80 and it was buffet style. Coffee was available in the usual filter glass pots and they also had hot milk in a pot too. This was probably to help heat up the luke warm coffee although i said no to that as the layer of skin on the milk didn't look appetising. We then had the choice two cereals in unusual looking dispensers. Standard cornflakes and some sort of chocolate cereal, probably to entice the kiddies. I partook of the cornflakes but found them to be more like cardboard. There was also a selection of french breads, baguettes, sliced breads, butter and jams. they say wheelchair access is available to all 62 rooms but i never saw a lift unless it was around the corner. There are three floors to the building.
