Average user rating ![]() Write a new review ![]() An intimate view of Amsterdam social history In this small cosy museum you are introduced in the world of a popular Dutch writer, educationalist and socialist: Theo Thijssen (1879-1943). He was born in this house and gives in his marvelous semi-autobiographical novels an impression of the life in this Jordaan quarter (an old workers quarter) about 1890. Alas his books are not yet translated in English. But in the museum you can buy an English text with a short description of a walk through Thijssen's Amsterdam of one century ago (including citations from Thijssen's books) . If you like to see a typical Amsterdam museum were not every tourist comes, this is a very good idea. The staff speaks English rather well. |
