    A great place to stay

Very nice people, nice boat and great location. With the skinny bridge right next door it is very nice at night. The owners do not tolerate hashpot smoking in the boat, as it is their house, but why sit inside when you are right on the Amstel and it is so much better outside!! With half the boat to yourself, and your own sink, bath, coffee toaster etc (you can make you own food if you like) it is like your own boat. I will be staying here again for sure.

Fair Price Accomodation with 5 Star Folks

Life is great on the water. This is true houseboat living. Stayed there for 10 days in March of 2000. Great location. Near both trams and Metro. Sylvia is a great hostess and will see to your every need. A small frig is available in which to keep your breakfast, drinks, and munchies. You may also pay for a great breakfast separately. Complimentary tea and coffee is available in your room. At times, Sylvia will wash your clothes for a very reasonable fee. You have your own separate entrance and can come and go as you please. You do share the bathroom and shower facilities, but, it was never a problem. Room for 1-4 people in 2 double beds. There is a great little restaurant for lunch and dinner right on the corner and grocerieas available nearby. I made firends with the family and will try to stay there each time I go back to Amsterdam.

    Zero Tolerance, US Style

Well, I *almost* stayed there. I made reservations and was truly excited about staying there, then a week before arrival I sent an e mail to confirm reservations. The response was disappointing and disheartening. Sylvia stated, 'We take pride of being a smoke- and drugsfree establishment. I don't like to get the reputation to float on grass and weed and hash, or worse psychedelic stuff. ... being stoned. It doesn't lead to anything but confusion. I think it is not a way to conciousnes, happiness and wisdom, though it looks like.' I find it ironic that the picture of Sylvia and hubby on their web site, sitting on their 'drugfree' boat with one of the most lethal and socially damaging drugs of all, alchohol. One reason I visit Nederland is to get away from US style crappy attitudes about personal lifestyle (smoking a little weed instead of drinking) and find the Nederland views on tolerance refreshing. If you are not into weed, and alchohol is your drug of choice, then this may be a place for you.
